4 Ag Leader Technology Preliminary Installation Requirements Implement must be lowered to ground or resting on hydraulic safety stops before beginning installation. Do not rely on hydraulic system alone to support implement. Hydraulics can fail resulting in serious injury or death. Read these instructions completely before beginning installation. They cover multiple clutch setups, so a thorough understanding is essential before beginning. Pay particular attention to Figures 1, 2 & 3. They may help to clarify any questions that arise about the installation. 4 October 2009 Rev B

8 Ag Leader Technology Installing Clutch And Output chain Required Parts: Part Number: (1) clutch (3) Carriage bolt 1/4 in. x 1 in (3) Hex nylock nut 1/4 in (3) Flat washer 1/4 in (1) Drill bit 9/32 in (1) Transfer punch 11/32 in (1) Output chain Mechanical seed meter (1) Drill template Kinze (Above quantities are for one row unit) Optional Parts: (1) Output chain Edge Vac seed meter Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Remove seed meter assembly from row unit. 2. Find connecting link on seed meter drive chain and remove outer retaining clip. Next remove tension from chain by pressing top of chain tensioner down and remove chain from seed meter drive sprocket. Finally remove connecting link and remove chain from row unit. 3. Remove chain tensioner assembly from row unit. All pieces from chain tensioner assembly will be reused in later steps except for the through bolt and retaining nut. (See Figure 4.) 9 4. Find template that is included in kit. Install template on inside of row unit as shown in Figure 5. Template should be held in place with C-clamps to avoid movement when marking holes. 5. Using supplied center punch, mark three holes in row unit. Remove template from row unit. 6. Using drill and supplied 9/32 in. stubby drill bit, drill out holes that were marked in previous step. After holes have been drilled, check to see if any burrs are left and remove if necessary. Figure 5: Drill template installed inside of row unit Note: Align bottom of template with bottom of row unit side. Align right side of template with left side of row unit frame as shown in Figure 5. Before marking hole, make sure template does not slide between row unit side plate and frame as shown in Figure 5. PN: October 2009 Rev B 9

10 Ag Leader Technology 7. Install clutch on inside of row unit using 1/4 in. x 1 in. carriage bolt, 1/4 in. washer and 1/4 in. lock nut. Do not tighten nuts at this time. 8. Install output chain on seed meter sprocket and inside sprocket of clutch. Tighten chain by sliding clutch towards front of row unit and tighten three (3) nuts that attach clutch to row unit as shown in Figure 6. DO NOT over tighten chain. Chain should have 1/8 to1/4 in. of slack midway between sprockets. Optional: EdgeVac seed meter 9. Edge Vac seed meter requires the use of longer output chain. Procedure for installing chain is the same as in Step 8. Figure 6: clutch with output chain installed 10 October 2009 Rev B

11 Installing Bearing hanger Spacers on Required Parts: Part Number: (2) Hex head capscrew 3/8 in. x 1-3/4 in (2) Hex nylock nut 3/8 in Drill shaft (2) Flat washer 3/8 in (2) Bearing hanger spacer (Above quantities are for one row unit) Step-by-step procdure 1. Remove two (2) bolts and two (2) nuts from bearing hanger on drill shaft. Slide bearing hanger towards inside of row unit and out of the way. 2. Install one (1) supplied 3/8 in. flat washer onto each 3/8 in. x 1-3/4 in. bolt and install bolts from outside of planter frame through holes where previous bolts were removed. 3. Install two (2) bearing hanger spacers onto bolts from inside of row unit (See Figure 7). Slide bearing hanger into position and install 3/8 in. locknuts and tighten. 12 Ag Leader Technology Installing Chain tensioner And Input chain Required Parts: Part Number: (1) Hex head capscrew 3/8 in. x 5-1/2 in (1) Hex nylock nut 3/8 in (2) Flat washer 3/8 in (1) Flat washer 5/8 in (1) Spacer 3/8 in. ID x 5/8 in. OD x 1-1/2 in. long (1) Input chain Kinze (Above quantities are for one row unit) Step-by-step procedure 1. Install 3/8 in. x 5-1/2 in. bolt through original hole for tensioner in side of row unit frame. 2. Install hardware onto bolt in the order shown in Figure 8. Tighten 3/8 in. nut on chain tensioner. Spring orientation is shown in Figure Install input chain in the orientation shown in Figure 9. Input chain comes pre-assembled. Chain MUST be disassembled before it can be installed on row unit. Note: If row unit is equipped with row unit set back bar, additional links will need to be added to input chain. To find the approximate number of links needed, first determine the amount of set back by measuring from center of bolt that attaches bar to row unit frame to center of bolt that attaches parallel arm to set back bar. Next use the following formula to determine number of links: set back distance (inches) x 4 = # of links. Finally check to make sure row unit goes through entire range of motion and there is no chain bind. 4. Reinstall seed hopper and seed meter assembly. Repeat procedure for additional three (3) row units. 3/8 in. x 5-1/2 in. bolt Flat washer 3/8 OEM spacer Flat washer 5/8 OEM washer Spacer 3/8 in. ID x 5/8 in. 14 Ag Leader Technology Additional Installation Information 1. On Kinze 3650/3660 planters equipped with bulk fill, the crossbar that attaches the seed meter to the row unit will need to be notched approximately 1/2 in. for the input chain to clear. 15 2. On Kinze 3500 and 3600 planters with flex joints on the toolbar, additional washers need to be added on the drill shaft when the bearing hanger is spaced over. Loosen the setscrew shown in Figure 11 and slide the drill shaft u-joint off of the drill shaft. Next install 4 of the supplied 1-1/2 in. OD x 1 in. ID washer on the drill shaft. Reinstall the u-joint and tighten the setscrew.
