Next Linear Collider Identify and Plug Holes (aka missing pieces: rf R&D, for example) Identify Cost Drivers and Do More Work Scrutinize Cost Estimate: Why does something costs what it costs? Easy on acquisition; not so easy on design, sustaining engineering, installation Need to develop project schedule; this impacts validity of our ability to actually get the work done Need to understand disparity between DR M&S$ and DR Labor$ in comparison to Sources and Prelinacs M&S/Labor $; in comparison to Project M&S/Labor $

13 Engineering and Administration WBS Element Labor Hrs Labor $ M&S $ Total $ (hours) (k$) (k$) (k$) $44M is 8.7% of Costs Depending on Schedule, a significant portion of this can be moved naturally to Pre-Operations Engineering and Administration is in addition to but not in substitution of Sustaining Engineering which seems to be largely missing in the Sources and Prelinacs Areas but well accounted for in the Damping Ring Area, maybe excessively so. There is certainly a disconnect within the with regards to Sustaining Engineering
