2 Contents Fjernvarme Fyn is an energy company that produces heat and power. There are potential risks inherent in production at Havnegade 120. These can be in the form of high temperatures, dust and noise, steam, chemicals, electrical system work as well as storage of ammonia. Fjernvarme Fyn has put in place a number of measures to create a safe workplace. This leaflet describes matters that need to be taken into account to ensure safety at work, in the workplace and in our surroundings. Happy reading! 3 Access Access to the production facilities at Havnegade 120, is at all times conditional on your having a contact at Fjernvarme Fyn. Your contact will issue you with an access pass. The access pass is personal and serves as an identity card. You must wear it at all times during your stay at Havnegade 120. Your contact will make sure you are instructed regarding the conditions applicable to the area as described in this leaflet. Your access pass is also used for registration. To do this, hold the pass against the scanner deployed by the boom systems or other entrances. Registration is important for use in the event of an evacuation so we know everyone is safe. You may park in the designated car park by Havnegade. Cars may only be parked within the grounds of Fjernvarme Fyn by agreement with your contact and they must have a valid parking license visible. Environmental and OSH rules You must follow instructions from Fjernvarme Fyn. If you are not sure: ask your line manager or contact. Port safety Access to the port area is granted only if you have to work in that area. 3

4 Take care of yourself! Alcohol and smoking Smoking is not permitted indoors or in the vicinity of Unit 8. Ash trays are available at various locations (see map on the back) Havnegade 120 is an alcohol-free zone. Please refer to Fjernvarme Fyn s policy. Personal protective gear 1. Safety footwear, safety goggles, a hard hat and long trousers must be worn when working in Fjernvarme Fyn s production facilities. When going outside the production facilities protection equipment must be brought. 2. Protective gear must be worn where required for the task, or where signs so indicate. Examples include hearing protection, masks, gloves and fall prevention. 3. On the map at the end of the leaflet has been marked the route where protection equipment is not required (unless there are signs that dictates protection equipment) 4. Protective gear must be used in other areas and in the administration building where the task requires it, or where signs so indicate. If you are in any doubt, get in touch with your line manager or your contact. 4

5 Securing systems and issuance of a work permit If you are going to be working on plant systems, you must ensure that the systems are properly secured. The system must be secured and signs must be displayed as set out below. You must be given the go-ahead by your contact before you start work. If you are in any doubt, review the securing of the system with your contact. DO NOT USE! WORK IN PROGRESS ON THIS SYSTEM Incidents, near-accidents and accidents Accidents and near-miss incidents must be reported to your contact immediately so they can be recorded. This is to ensure damage limitation and to prevent any recurrence. 5

6 Environmental matters Planning Plan your work to avoid chemical emissions or spillages. Be prepared for something to go wrong have cloths, cat litter, etc., ready for use. Fjernvarme Fyn is an environmentally responsible company that works strategically to reduce the use of products and chemicals that pollute 6

7 Accidents Any and all environmental accidents must be reported to your contact immediately. Near-accidents Incidents where something could have gone wrong (e.g. oil spillages that were stopped before the oil flowed out into the open) must also be reported to your contact. Waste may only be disposed of at the plant s waste disposal sites by agreement with your contact. You must comply with local waste management regulations. 7

8 Chemicals You must bring and be familiar with the workplace instructions (arbejdspladsbrugsanvisningen APB) and chemicals requiring labelling that you use in carrying out your duties. Any and all packaging containing chemicals that require labelling must be labelled with their classification as well as hazard and precautionary phrases. Paint packaging must clearly display MAL codes [the Danish MAL code system is a simple twopart numerical code system that describes a product s effects on health]. 8

9 Fire, risk of explosion and hot work Please note that special permission is required to undertake ATEX and hot work. 12 In case of serious personal injury 1) Stop the accident - secure the area, 2) Assess the patient, 3) Call for assistance, 4) Administer first aid Raise the alarm Call the emergency services on tel. 112 and the Control Room on tel If you are the one who calls the emergency services, REMEMBER to inform one of the control rooms, which will ensure someone is waiting at the gate to show the way and ensure that gates and booms are opened. Inform 1) Who is calling? 2) Telephone number so you can be called back if necessary, 3) What happened? 4) Where did it happen? 5) How many people have been injured? Rescue Rescue the injured and warn others of the danger. If possible, stay with the injured person(s). Limit the extent of the accident by using the safety and fire-fighting equipment available in the area until help arrives. In case of ammonia emission Warning sirens sound a steady tone until the danger is over. Wind socks are deployed at the ammonia store and in several strategic locations at Havnegade 120. Try to get away from the ammonia store. Try to get indoors. Try to reach your nearest mustering point. Escape route: Keep an eye on the wind sock. If you find yourself directly downwind in relation to the facility, You will be safest if you move across the direction in which the wind is blowing. Shut doors and windows. Stop the ventilation system. Do not use lifts during evacuation! In case of a major operational accident, fire or external threats Warning sirens will sound at a varying pitch until the danger is over. Evacuate the premises. Everyone must seek the safest way to the nearest mustering point. Do not use lifts during evacuation!
