Works on the improvement of James Gichuru road junction to Rironi road is progressing well after the completion and disclosure of the updated resettlement action. The main challenge and risk is the smooth implementation of the associated resettlement action plan. 2. The completion of construction of Meru bypass roads was delayed due to a long electioneering period last year and abnormal rains received during March-May The contract is expected to be completed by end of October /7/2018 Page 1 of 6

2 IN IN KeNHA has awarded a consultancy service contract for design review and assistance in the procurement of a contractor for the construction of Kisumu Northern bypass. The design review will take three months within which the bidding documents will be updated and bids invited. 4. NaMATA Board of Directors have been appointed and are currently going through orientation. The appointment will enable the startup activities of operationalization and recruitment of staff. 5. Preliminary design on installing an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) for Nairobi including installation of a traffic signaling system and construction of a traffic control center has been completed and the draft bidding documents are under review by the Bank. Upon clearance for the components to be financed by the Bank, KURA will commence the bidding process to procure a contractor to improve the number of junctions that can be covered by the funds available under the project. Meanwhile, GoK has reached out to other potential development partners with encouraging results that could lead to securing additional funds to cover a significant number of junctions. 6. The development of a commuter rail masterplan for Nairobi is advanced. The task of identifying immediate interventions (rescue plan) to revitalize the service has been concluded. GoK plans to implement a rescue plan within the next one year. Restructuring includes major changes where some major activities will be dropped including two road sections, new activities introduced and PDO revised.
