2 Background Regulated Pharma India represents one of the largest markets in the world for pharmaceutical products. An estimated 50% of the world s requirement for bulk drugs is supplied from India. Among the more than 1400 bulk drug manufacturing units, mostly in the small-scale sector, more than 100 have accreditation of USFDA, MCA, TGA and COS. Among the 6,300 active DMF s filed with the US FDA, as many as 26% (1,700), are from India. By the end of this year, an estimated USD 20 billion worth of branded drugs are expected to go off patent in the US. This represents a huge opportunity for Indian drug manufacturers to tap into the emerging market. It would no doubt entail not only good drug manufacturing capabilities but also require the right kind of packaging materials and practices to go hand in hand with the growth. Food Processing India is the world s second largest producer of food, next only to China. Food processing within the country has nearly doubled over the last four years. Of the world s total annual spice trade of 850,000 tonnes, India accounts for 44 percent in quantity and 36 percent in value. In 2012 the turnover of the processed food industry is expected to reach USD 1,161 million. This rapid growth demands a supply chain and processing capability of international standards. Compliance Needs Delivering high quality products at the right cost with CGMP and HACCP Compliance are critical to manage risk within the industry. What is it that pharma and food manufacturers increasingly expect from packaging providers to meet their quality needs? How should buyers and vendors work together to evaluate risk and assure quality? The PackPlus South Conclave this year will endeavor to address these q u e s t i o n s w i t h t h e participation of eminent industry experts and entrepreneurs. Unique Format of Conclave Who will Benefit? The Conclave will present an exclusive opportunity for senior managers from pharma and food manufacturing, or entrepreneurs and exporters of Bulk Drugs and Processed Food and manufacturers of packaging materials and machinery to share a knowledge platform. It will present a unique, not-to-bemissed, opportunity to get close to experienced industry experts and seek spot answers to issues related to packaging and Regulatory Compliance. The program has been specially devised to create a background for the ensuing dialogue by inviting an industry expert to initiate the proceedings.
