2 MARKANT TWENTYFOUR SEVEN The furniture in control and dealing rooms is subject to very strict requirements. This is logical because such environments host business-critical processes that cannot be disturbed unnecessarily. In addition, furniture is also exposed to physical loads that are many times higher than those experienced during standard use. Based on 24-hour occupancy, seven days a week, the load on these work places is over four times higher than in a standard 40-hour working week. Over the years, Markant has become a specialist in the supply of 24/7 work places. The technology used to support the work places is based on Markant System Architecture (MSA). MSA is a modular frame construction underneath the worktop and is the construction that supports and operates monitors. Thanks to the modularity and flexibility of MSA, all desks in control and dealing rooms can be constructed in any shape or format. Markant supports and oversees the entire process from the concept phase up to the design and delivery of the control/dealing room. The Research and Development department at Markant uses the programme of requirements to compile a draft design. A final design is then formulated after mutual consultation and fine-tuning with end users, which is supported by technical drawings and photographic rendering. This provides a clear insight into the 24-hour work place that will eventually be delivered. Naturally, besides the specifications of work places, the environment in which they will be placed is also taken into consideration. After all, work places are not alone in being subject to strict requirements; high demands are also placed on the people who work in such environments, which means they often have to perform under considerable pressure. Custom-made solutions thus become a standard feature, thanks to tried and tested technology! Such working conditions require a functional and pleasant environment. 3 MONITORS 24-hour work places almost always accommodate numerous monitors. The required level of adjustability for monitors is determined by the activities performed at the work place and the number of users during the course of the day. Ideally, the height and depth of all monitors will be simultaneously modified electrically. Depending on the number and format of monitors required, the frame construction will be modified to make it 100% compatible with all (future) requirements. WORKTOP The worktop can be created in many shapes and sizes, so that it offers perfect functional and ergonomic support for performed activities and also fits into the designated space. Besides the control panel for configuring the work place, provisions can also be added to cater for peripherals. This could include recesses or additional levels. SITTING/STANDING Alternating seated and standing work helps to improve the user s productivity and concentration. And this is crucial in a demanding work environment like a control/dealing room. Even more so because users almost exclusively perform their work behind the work place. Another advantage is that alternating seated and standing work helps to prevent RSI complaints and improves the sustainable deployment of employees. Height configuration has a scope of cm and is electronically controlled using powerful, silent motors. ELECTRICITY AND DATA It is essential to effectively incorporate electricity and data features into the 24-hour work place. Electricity sockets, possibly featuring data connections, can be placed prior to installation so they can be connected to the network immediately when the work places are delivered. It is also possible to place electricity/data modules on (top of) the worktop. The number of required positions is established in advance together with the ICT department in question. CONTROL PANEL The controls for the entire work place have been incorporated into a neatly designed stainless steel control panel. This allows users to easily and quickly configure the work place in accordance with their ergonomic needs. The clear pictograms on the control panel show which features are operated by the individual buttons. WIRE MANAGEMENT Well-guided and concealed wires are essential due to the use of multiple monitors and the amount of equipment and peripherals on and around the work place. On the one hand, the 24-hour work place must be wire-free so that activities are not hindered. On the other hand, in case of emergencies, it must be easy for the ICT department to quickly and easily replace equipment and wires. Effective wire management increases hygienic work conditions and improves the reliability of the systems. Thus lower personnel absenteeism and higher productivity.

6 METHOD Markant uses standard components to construct custom-made solutions. This has resulted in a short design process and optimal attention for customer-specific requirements. Thanks to advanced 3D-CAD programmes, Markant is able to visualise the final result at an early stage. Supported by realistic photo images, it is possible to provide an accurate impression of the final appearance. A mock-up can be constructed in the Research & Development platform so that decision-makers and users can experience and evaluate the work place in live mode. WIRES The flexible and integrated wire management solution guides the wires vertically and horizontally through the work place. The wires are safely protected and remain well accessible in case of emergencies. Markant can supply monitor work places pre-wired with the required connections and accompanying wires (230V, UTP, VGA, HDMI, USB etc.), which have been cut to length, so that all equipment can be connected immediately whereby work places literally become plug-and-play. PRODUCT The 24-hour work places standardly feature worktops that can be adjusted in height within a range of cm. This offers perfect ergonomic comfort during seated and standing work. Standard Multi-screen solutions can be freely adjusted in height. A feature for electrical height and depth adjustment is available as an option. All monitors can be adjusted in height independently from each other, which allows users to perfectly align and configure the monitors. DELIVERY The project coordinator, together with the concerned departments at the end user, will perfectly arrange planning for the placement. The logistics for these complex processes will be aligned as much as possible. Preparations for efficient on-site installation will be made in-house at Markant wherever possible. This means work places are delivered quickly and fit-4-use. During the final delivery, the 24-hour desks are inspected individually and then released for use. Personal user instructions can also be provided. SERVICE Although 24-hour work places are low-maintenance, emergencies may be encountered whereby repairs may be necessary. If an SLA (Service Level Agreement) is agreed, Markant will be able to respond appropriately to keep productivity loss to a minimum. It is also possible to have one or more desks in stock, which means a replacement desk (additional) can be supplied in the Netherlands within 24 hours. MATERIALS The modular structure of the 24/7 desks is based on Markant System Architecture. The use of high quality steel and aluminium ensures a solid construction and makes it possible to set an endless number of configurations. 7 MFX + Q4 LCD-ARM (2X Q4-DOUBLE) This is the most cost-neutral 24-hour solution. It is extremely well-suited to a security environment (e.g. car park). The MFX sitting/standing work place can be electrically adjusted in height between cm. The Q4 LCD-arms are modular, whereby the number of screens in the work place can be modified from two to eight screens without complicated modifications to the construction. MFX + TOOLBAR Once again, the basis is formed by an MFX work place. However, the structure for LCD screens does not consist of two separate Q4 modules, but a horizontal toolbar. The advantage of this is that screens have been aligned horizontally, which gives a pleasant appearance in the room. It is also possible to introduce a second layer. MFX + HORIZON Horizon is a toolbar that can be electrically adjusted in height, which is ideal when multiple people work behind the work place over a 24-hour period. This allows each user to quickly and easily adjust the work place as well as the monitor. The height adjuster is operated using button controls integrated into the worktop. DEALING / CONTROL DESK The most complete 24-hour work place. Requirements are carefully inventoried together with the customer and are then incorporated into a Programme of Requirements (PoR). The PoR is used to develop a customer-specific dealing desk based on Markant System Architecture (MS). This type of dealing desk is characterised by electrically adjustable monitor-holders and worry-free CPU cabinets and wiring.
