F.9-43/2006-U.3(A) dated 6th June, 2007 by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The University invites application from the eligible candidates for admission into various postgraduate medical courses conducted by its medical college (Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences). 2 2. DURATION OF COURSE For Doctor of Medicine (MD) & Master of Surgery (MS): Three years from the date of admission. However, exemption of one year shall be granted to students having a recognized two years postgraduate diploma in the same subject. For Diploma: Two years from the date of admission. 3. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA A candidate, who holds MBBS degree from a recognized medical college or a foreign medical degree included in the schedules of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and who has obtained full registration either from the Medical Council of India (MCI) or from any of the State Medical Councils after completing compulsory rotating internship shall be eligible to take this examination. However, a candidate who after passing the final qualifying examination (MBBS or the foreign medical degree recognized by MCI), is undergoing 12 month compulsory rotating internship and is likely to complete the same by 31 st March, 2009 can take up this examination. The candidate must produce a certificate from the head of institution that he/she will be completing internship by 31 st March, But he/she will not be eligible for admission unless he/she has completed the compulsory rotating internship on or before 31 st March, 2009 and obtained full registration with MCI or State Medical Councils. The cut off dates for the recognition of the Medical Colleges for the year 2009 will be 31 st October The colleges recognized after this date will not be considered. 4. METHOD OF SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION (v) A candidate seeking admission to the Entrance Examination is required to send his/her application in the prescribed format which can be downloaded from our website The candidate should fill the application form in his/her own handwriting (in capital letters) clearly and legibly. Furnishing of false information or suppression of material information in the application form will entail disqualification and shall render the candidate unfit for admission. If ineligibility is detected at any stage, the candidature/admission will be treated as cancelled and no further correspondence in this regard will be entertained. Further, the intimation in this regard will be sent to M.C.I. and concerned medical college for necessary action. Incomplete application form will be rejected and no correspondence will be entertained by the University in this regard. It will be the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that the correct address is filled in the Application Forms. The University shall not be responsible for any loss in transit or for incorrect address given by the applicant in the Application Form.

3 (vi) (vii) No candidate should submit more than one application. However, if submission of another application becomes necessary for any reason, the word Duplicate be clearly mentioned on top of the second application. Failure to do so may entail rejection of both applications. Since allotment of seats is made through personal appearance, candidates are not required to give their choice of subject at the time of submission of application form. (viii) Candidate is required to go through the check list before sending his/her application form. (ix) (x) The Application form completed in all respects along with examination fee of Rs.1,000/- (Rupees One Thousand only) should be sent to the Controller of Examination, HIHT University, Swami Rama Nagar, P.O. Doiwala, Dehradun (Uttarakhand) by speed post/registered post or deposited by hand at examination office. Application received after the prescribed last date will be rejected. The Demand Draft for the examination fee shall be made in favour of HIHT University payable at State Bank of India, Jolly Grant (Bank Code no ), Dehradun 5. CHECK LIST Before sending the Application Form candidate must ensure that self attested photocopies of the following documents are sent along with duly filled Application Form. (v) (vi) Date of birth certificate or High School certificate containing date of birth Mark sheets of MBBS examinations (all professional examinations) MBBS degree or Provisional passing certificate Internship completion certificate or certificate from the college principal that Internship will be completed on or before 31 st March 2009 Three self addressed envelopes Four recent same passport size colour photographs (one photograph should be affixed on the application form and one on the admit card) 6. INSTRUCTION FOR PHOTOGRAPHS Four recent same passport size coloured photographs with light background are required. Polaroid photographs are NOT acceptable. Photographs MUST be snapped on or after Photograph must be taken with name of candidate (as in application) and date of taking photograph. Example:

4 Important: (a) The photograph must be snapped with a placard indicating name and date of taking photograph. In case name and date are written on the photograph after taking it, the application will be rejected. (b) The name and date on the photograph must be clear and legible. (v) (vi) (vii) Photograph should not have any cap, goggles. One photograph should be pasted (NOT stapled) on the Application Form and the other on the Admit Card. The photograph on the Application Form must be attested by a Gazetted Officer/Principal with a clear stamp. The photograph on the Admit Card is NOT to be attested. Two photographs should be attached with application form separately. (viii) Keep few identical photographs in reserve. 7. IMPORTANT DATES Last Date for Submission of Application Forms : 31 st December 2008 Date of Entrance Examination : 24 th January, 2009 (Saturday) from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM 8. EXAMINATION CENTRE The Postgraduate Entrance Examination will be held at Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, HIHT University, Swami Ram Nagar, P.O. Doiwala, Dehradun , Uttarakhand. 9. ADMIT CARD In case a candidate does not receive the Admit Card by 15 th January 2009, he/she should immediately get in touch with the Controller of Examination with duly attested passport size photograph and proof of sending application form so that Duplicate Admit Card can be issued. The University bears no responsibility for non-receipt of Admit Card due to loss in transit or on any other ground. Efforts to procure the duplicate admit card from Examination Section is the sole responsibility of the candidate. Candidates are advised to preserve the Admit Card till allotment of seat. Duplicate Admit Card will not be issued after the examination. No candidate will be allowed to enter the Examination Hall / Venue of allotment of seats by personal appearance without valid Admit Card in original.

5 10. CONDUCT OF EXAMINATION (v) (vi) Candidate should report at the examination centre on Saturday, the 24 th January 2009 at 1:00 PM. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall after 1:45 PM. The Examination will start sharp at 2:00 PM. No candidate shall be allowed to leave the examination hall before the end of 3 (three) hours. Candidate must bring his own pen, pencils and eraser. No candidate should carry any textual material, printed or written, bits of papers or any other material except the Admit Card (without envelop) inside the hall. If a candidate is found to be copying/conversing with other candidates/ to have in his/her possession papers, notes or books, he/she shall be disqualified from taking this Examination and the next one or two such examinations according to the nature of offence and its intimation will be sent to the MCI for necessary action. Candidates shall maintain silence and attend to their papers only. Any disturbance in examination hall shall be deemed as misconduct and the candidate shall forfeit the right to continue to write in the examination. The decision of the Centre Superintendent shall be final and binding on candidate. Cellular phones, pagers, calculators etc. are strictly prohibited in the examination hall. 11. SCHEME OF EXAMINATION There will be one paper of 3 (three) hours duration containing 250 Multiple Choice Questions consisting of Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical and Clinical subjects. The questions will be single response objective type. Each answer with correct response shall be awarded four marks. One mark will be deducted for each wrong response. Zero mark will be given for the questions not answered. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked. The tentative number of questions from each subject will be as given below:- Anatomy (10), Physiology (10), Biochemistry (10) Pharmacology (15), Pathology (20), Microbiology (15), Forensic Medicine (10), Social and Preventive Medicine (20), Medicine, Dermatology and Venereology (35), Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics & Anaesthesia (40), Paediatrics (15), Obst. & Gynae. (20), Radio-diagnosis and Radiotherapy (10), Ophthalmology (10), Psychiatry (10). The examination will be conducted in English medium only.

6 (v) Separate answer sheet will be provided to the candidate. Candidates must write roll number and test booklet number in Arabic Numerals in the appropriate boxes using a Hi-tec point type black pen or 2B pencil and also completely darken the corresponding circles. For example, if the Roll no. is 7235 and the test booklet no. is 18960, it should be filled as follows : (vi) (vii) The roll number and the test booklet number as filled by the candidate in the answer sheet will be accepted as final for the purpose of evaluation. When these numbers are not written or written wrongly, the answer sheet will not be evaluated. The candidate will be solely responsible for any error, omission in filling up the roll number and the test booklet number. Each MCQ will consist of a stem which may be in the form of a question or a incomplete statement and four responses labeled a, b, c and d. Candidates should indicate the one correct or most appropriate answer by darkening the appropriate circle completely. Use 2B pencil only to darken the appropriate circle. Candidate should not indicate the answer in any other way like tick mark, cross, dot, line etc. The following example illustrates the correct method of indicating the answer. Question no. in the Test Booklet may read as follows : The CASEIN contained in milk is a a. Bactrium b. Carbohydrate c. Fat d. Protein The Correct response is d. The candidate will locate question No. in the answer sheet and darken the circle d as shown here. There is only ONE Correct WAY of indicating the answer. a b c d RIGHT

7 If more than one circle is darkened or the response is marked in any wrong manner as shown above, it shall be treated as wrong answer. Candidates who wish not to attempt a question should not touch the circle given against the question. Candidates must ensure that the answer sheet is not folded and make no stray marks on it. (viii) Changing the answer : If candidate wants to change any answer on his/her answer sheet, he/she must erase completely the existing pencil mark and then darken the appropriate circle with 2B pencil. Candidates must ensure that there should be no visible mark after erasing. Otherwise the answer will be treated as wrong and negatively marked. (ix) Candidates are also required to deposit back the question booklet at the end of examination. 12. DECLARATION OF RESULTS The result of only successful candidates with their rank numbers is expected to be declared by 31 st January 2009 and will be displayed on the notice board of examination section. It will also be available at our website The University will not intimate the candidates individually regarding the result of entrance examination and no correspondence on this subject shall be entertained. There is no provision for rechecking/re-evaluation of the answer sheets and no querry in this regard shall be entertained. 13. MERIT LIST Candidates securing less than 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in the entrance examination will not be considered for admission and their names will not be included in the merit list. In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks in the competitive entrance examination, their inter se merit will be determined in order of preference as under: (a) Marks obtained in final professional MBBS examination. (b) Aggregate marks in all Professional MBBS examinations. (c) Candidate who is older in age. 14. ALLOTMENT OF SEATS BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE (COUNSELING) The date of Counseling will be intimated to the successful candidates separately. However the candidates are required to remain in touch with the examination office to avoid any inconvenience. The allotment of seats shall be made to the candidates through personal appearance and strictly on the basis of merit list declared by the university.

8 The candidate appearing for allotment by personal appearance should bring the following documents in original along with an attested copy of the documents: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) (g) (h) (j) (k) Admit Card Rank letter issued by University for counseling MBBS degree/provisional passing certificate Mark sheets of MBBS examination Attempt Certificate Internship completion certificate / certificate from the head of the institution that the candidate will be completing the internship by 31 st March, 2009 Valid permanent/provisional registration certificate issued by MCI/State Medical Council High School/Higher Secondary certificate in proof of date of birth Recent Character Certificate from the head of the institution last attended/ or from a Gazated officer Migration certificate Any other relevant certificate or document In any case candidate without original documents shall not be allowed to participate in the counseling (allotment by personal appearance). (v) (vi) (vii) The candidates will have the right to choose any one of the available seats and the same will be allotted to him/her. In case any candidate is unable to appear in person on the notified date for personal appearance, he/she can send his/her authorized representative with an undertaking and authority letter as given at Appendix I and Appendix II along with requisite original documents. The allotment made to the authorized representative shall be binding on the candidate. The mere fact that a candidate or his/her authorized representative has appeared for allotment on a notified date does not mean that the allotment will be made to him/her as the same shall depend upon the availability of a seat and the choices exercised by the candidate or his/her authorized representative. Allotment letter will be issued on the same day of counseling to the person who appears in the counseling. (viii) The candidates who do not appear for allotment in person or through the authorized representative on notified date or who reject the available seats for allotment or those who do not join the allotted course by the last date of joining mentioned in the allotment letter, shall forfeit claim for a seat, and such seat can be allotted to next rank candidate. (ix) (x) Candidates who have been allotted the seat must join their courses on or before the specified date as notified in allotment letter. If they do not join, they shall forfeit all their claims for a seat. If any candidate after taking admission to the allotted course, discontinues the PG course, or his/her admission cancelled by the institution for any reason, he/she shall forfeit the claim for a seat.

9 (xi) (xii) While reporting for admission, please carry all the relevant certificates/documents in original. These original documents shall be kept with the institution till completion of the course. All disputes pertaining to conduct of examination by the University and allocation of seats in various subjects shall fall within the jurisdiction of Uttarakhand. (xiii) No oral enquiry would be entertained by the authority. Candidates are requested to communicate in writing. They must take special care to indicate their rank number, roll number, name and postal address in their letters. They should also sign the same. (xiv) Canvassing directly or indirectly for the allotment of seats or adjustments thereafter would disqualify the candidate for admission on the basis of this examination. Influencing the staff by unfair means would lead to serious consequences for all concerned. The candidates or their relatives visiting University for seeking change of the allotment would face disqualification, since such visit would be treated as trespassing. (xv) The authority is not obliged to enter into any correspondence with the candidate, unless it is considered necessary. 15. COURSE FEE The tuition fee for MD/MS/Diploma courses will be Rs.4,00,000/- (Rupees Four Lakh only) per year. This fee does not include hostel and mess charges and the same will be charged separately. In case candidate is not able to complete the course in stipulated period of time extra fees shall be charged. If any candidate discontinues his/her studies after 31 st May of admission year or in subsequent years or does not join the courses by the stipulated date, he is liable to pay the tuition fees of the full course.
