Port Hinterland integration The example of ThPA - TRAINOSE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Opportunities and challenges for territorial integration of seaport: ICT, infrastructures and services 27 th of March 2014, Valencia, Spain

Freight Transport Shift Trend

Two Strategic Corridors Athens Thessaloniki - Sofia (Yana terminal) Varna Market Interest for Bypassing Dardanelle Straits Athens Thessaloniki - Sofia (Yana Terminal) Arad Budapest Sopron Dresden Market Interest to have an alternative to corridor X (Greece FYROM Serbia etc)

Pilot Overall Scenario Shipping Line Shipping Agent Ports (e.g. ThPA) Customs controls Railway service providers (in that case TRAINOSE) Consignee Integration of ICT technologies along intermodal transport chains Vessel announcement Notifications on arrival/departure Cargo status Cargo location Delivery report Damage report Train chedules/ availability Wagon booking

Pilot focus Cargo Import Corridor B Bulk transfer Corridor A Container transfer

Pilot Area

Current Process (As-Is) Arrival of container at ThPA and loading on train Communication (tel, fax) of the agent / freight forwarder with TRAINOSE to arrange the transshipment of the container. Verification by TRAINOSE (tel, fax) Communication (tel) of the agent / freight forwarder with ThPA to arrange the transshipment of the container on the train assignment on virtual train by ThPA Internal procedures to compose the train by TRAINOSE train arrival at ThPA Loading of containers on the train the details of the final loading plan are sent from ThPA to TRAINOSE Arrival of container via train at ThPA and loading on ship Submission of train unloading plan message from TRAINOSE to ThPA

Current Process Limitations No process optimization because of gaps and/or delays on information exchange Limited visibility throughout the entire chain ICT technologies are not deployed in full scale Information exchange still relies on paperwork, fax, phone in several cases

To-be process The agents perform a container transport request via train to ThPA TRAINOSE receives electronically (via ThPA) the agents requests and groups them into full trains, sending back a proposed loading plan of the containers on the train ThPA performs the necessary procedures inside the container yard for faster loading The containers are loaded on the train and ThPA notifies TRAINOSE for the final container loading plan on the train TRAINOSE employees perform printouts of the accompanying documents for the train TRAINOSE receives the loaded train, and employees check the loading of each container and its accompanying documents, and the train is dispatched towards its final destination TRAINOSE provides information for the current status of each wagon via electronic means

Pilot Specifications Specifications based on analysis of as-is situation, needs/requirements and final to-be designed process The specifications are clustered along three different axes Pilot Functional Areas Pilot Components Deployment corridors

High Level Overall Functionality Information Provision Functional Areas F1 Cargo handling orders/instructions (including booking) F2 Transport means status (availability, ETA etc.) F3 Cargo status F4 Pricing F5 Handling operations (internal) F6 Issuing accompanying documents

Pilot Components Component #1: Partner-specific functionality Different per partner based on own needs Component #2: Inter-partner Visibility functionality Exchange of information between ThPA TRAINOSE to improve visibility (and internal operations) Component #3: Cross-pilot Visibility functionality Information pushed/shared to Visibility platform
