1 Page 1 of 5 Title Prepare and operate automated bread slicing and packaging equipment Level 3 Credits 5 Purpose This unit standard is for people who are currently working, or intend to work, in jobs which involve setting up, operating, and adjusting automated bread slicing and packaging equipment, normally as part of a production process. People credited with this unit standard are able to: use safe working practices; prepare automated bread slicing equipment; slice bread using automated equipment; prepare automated bread packaging equipment; and operate and adjust automated bread packaging equipment. Automated slicing equipment may be: reciprocating, hydro, band, or gravity fed. Automated packaging equipment may include but is not limited to: vertical or horizontal packing machines. 3 Definitions Organisational procedures refers to documents that include: worksite rules, codes, and practices; equipment operating instructions; production specifications; documented quality management systems; and health and safety requirements. PPE refers to personal protective equipment and may include but is not limited to: protective clothing; gloves; safety glasses, headwear, and footwear; hearing protection; safety devices. 4 Competence is to be demonstrated on two occasions of slicing and wrapping bread using preset automated equipment.
