Group Group is a significant European polymer technology expert The roots of s know-how go back to 1898 when company s current operations formed a part of the Gummifabrik, later merging with the Nokia Group. The company has traded under the present name since 1989, the year when the majority of Nokia Group s technical rubber business was transferred to. Group includes three plants in Finland, one plant in China and in Hungary, a sales company in Germany and sales representation in Russia. products include industrial hoses, moulded products of rubber and plastic, rubber linings and polyurethane coatings, polyurethane and liquid silicone products, rubber compounds, sheets, and mats. Our areas of know-how comprise product and service solutions for wear and corrosion protection, industrial hoses and hose assemblies for handling liquids and other materials, and customer-specifically tailored and manufactured polymer products. Our own mould design, compound development, and product and technique design guarantee product solutions that meet customer requirements today - as well as excellent opportunities for further development in the future. s success is based on great products, efficient production, and high-quality customer service. With each customer project, we aim to arrive at a cost-effective, durable, and functioning solution, whether it involves a customized or stock product. We reach our goals through motivated and knowledgeable staff, innovative materials solutions, and our solid experience of challenges in various industrial segments. 2

Our operating principle We at aim at creating added value for our customers. The only way to succeed in this is to manufacture excellent products and services. In a nutshell, our entire operating principle can be presented as a cycle, starting from finding out the customer s needs and ending with the final delivery. The key is to identify the customer s needs and be familiar with the customer s process. Every project, whether old or new, starts by meeting with the customer to discuss their needs. After the charting phase, we begin the research work, adopt a new production method, if necessary, and carry out the design work and the potential subcontracting. The selection of raw materials is a separate phase that significantly affects the success of the end product. The manufacturing process includes careful quality control and efficient reporting, resulting in a product that matches the desired properties as closely as possible. The process is finished off by the delivery and the logistics, but the cycle never really ends. Our development work continues on the basis of the experience gained and through new coatings and solutions. Customer requirement Deliveries Research Logistics Reporting Quality assurance An integral part of the customer s product development, we aim for longterm co-operation, providing high-quality elastomer products. 4 The history of Yhtiöt Oy goes back to Nokia s rubber works, established in At the time, Suomen Gummitehdas (The Rubber Factory of Finland) manufactured rubber galoshes for shoe protection, as well as footwear, car tyres, hoses and mats. The company s flagship product was tyres, but Nokia slowly gained expertise in all the different aspects of the rubber industry. Nokia gave up the rubber works in the 1980s and 1990s, after which the manufacturing operations were picked up by Nokian Jalkineet Oy, Nokian Renkaat Oyj and Oy. acquired Nokia s factories in Kiikka and Vammala, and later the factory in Kerava. This preserved the accumulated 100+ years of know-how and expertise in rubber works in Finland. began international operations right away during its first years: its first and crucial accounts were the car factories of Volvo and Scania. At the time, the automotive industry was already familiar with terms such as Lean, Just-In-Time, ISO 9000, EDI and 5S. For a fledgling company carrying out subcontracting work, learning to master these terms with its very first customers was a stroke of luck the company gained the know-how to operate abroad right from the start. 4

International competition was harsh and decided to rise to the challenge by founding a subsidiary in Germany. The next stage brought along a situation in which one of the company s largest customers requested that they move a part of their production closer to Asia, the main market for this customer. The decision was easy: the account was established and the company was familiar with the required technology. In 2008, s second subsidiary was founded in Suzhou, China. Today, operates in Finland in Vammala, Kiikka and Kerava as well as in Germany, Russia, and China. 5

Components for protective devices Facemasks Inner masks The facemasks of s protective masks are always manufactured with the best possible user experience in mind. The materials are anti-allergy rubber. The facepiece is comfortable to wear, flexible, and long-lasting. The seal surface on the inside is as wide and flat as possible, which makes the mask more comfortable and more tightly sealed. Available in different colours. All facepieces are customised to meet each customer s needs and application. ensures with the customer that the product passes various quality tests. The masks are worn by such user groups as soldiers, divers, industrial workers, and fire and emergency workers. The hygienic inner masks are designed and manufactured together with the facepiece this guarantees a comfortable fit and maximum sealing. The comfortable fit of the inner mask guarantees a comfortable user experience even for long periods of time. Sealed to the face but does not make you sweat and feels pleasant on the skin. Manufactured from natural rubber, silicone, or plastic. Customised according to the customer s wishes and designed together with the facepiece. The inner mask contains a glasses holder. The materials are easy to keep clean and hygienic. With accessories, it is easy to adapt the inner mask to different applications. 6

The head harness finishes off the comfortable fit, enables user-specific adjustments and has a crucial effect on the ease of pulling the mask on and off. Head harness Thanks to the functional strap system, the mask is fast and easy to put on. The wide and thin strap system provides a firm grip and does not press uncomfortably against your face even in prolonged use. Manufactured for different uses, such as for fire-resistant masks and cold conditions. The materials are EPDM, natural rubber, and silicone. Available in different colours. The head harness are adjustable to guarantee an optimal fit. Accessories Accessories for the inner masks and facemasks diversify the use properties of the masks and enable special uses. The small parts are made of rubber, silicone and plastic. Available accessories include a drinking tube, a breathing tube customised for the mask, sealing flaps, and flap frames. Speech diaphragms for built-in microphones are also available. 7

Familiarity with different industries During our long experience, we have served several different industries, from heavy industry to the hygienic and pedantic pharmaceutical industry. 9 Raw-material design and development We have extensive and varied experience with other polymers, such as polyurethane, thermoplastics, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) materials, liquid silicone, and Nyrim plastic. We ensure continuous development through close collaboration with our material suppliers. uses several different materials in its products and develops entirely new mixtures whenever necessary. Almost without exception, customer products can be manufactured from materials whose properties precisely match the application intended for the product in question. Customer- and product-specific rubber compounds are developed by our Finnish mixing plants, Sekoitukset Oy and Oy. Sekoitukset is a specialized manufacturer of high-quality rubber compounds. We provide proprietary mixture recipes that we have developed ourselves, putting many years of experience in the sector and knowledge of new materials to work, along with mixture recipes developed by our customers. 9

Customer-oriented specifications The customer s needs and processes always serve as the starting point of our operations. The key is close cooperation between the customer and this cooperation encompasses sales, product development and the development of materials. The customer may have encountered a problem that requires a customized solution. On the other hand, the customer may also want to develop and improve an existing product. We will look into the desired application, operating environment and function of the product. 10

Product-specific design After the customer s needs are known, we begin the design process for the product. The choice of material depends on many factors: whether the application will involve high or low temperatures, whether the product will be exposed to chemicals, and whether there will be wear or other stress factors. It is often possible to find an existing rubber mixture for the application, but sometimes the solution calls for product and material development process. Our R&D department can conduct 3D modelling and evaluate the functionality of the product s shape through an FEM analysis. In addition to material selection and shape, this stage involves measures such as charting the need for polyurethane-coated metal structures. 11

Mould design and manufacture We use 3D modelling when developing moulded products. The model enables us to simulate different material alternatives by using e.g. the FEM method; as a result, we can offer the customer the best suitable solution. In-house tool manufacturing enables short lead time from design to product. Moulds are manufactured with CNC lathes by the professionals in our in-house tool manufacture department. Our manufacturing techniques include injection and compression moulding of rubber, injection moulding and extrusion of plastics and liquid silicones TPE`s, rubber hose manufacturing, polyurethane moulding and reaction moulding (RIM). 12
