2 SEEING THE VALUE OF PARTNERSHIP While all companies strive to be the best, rivals often produce great products with similar features. Unfortunately, not all companies consider support a feature. Some might leave you high and dry when you really need help. That s why Todd Crystal and Dominic Valois at Spencomp Solutions make such a great team. Todd is the president and owner and Dominic is the senior security specialist (but Todd calls him the chief genius officer ). Todd has over fifteen years of experience in IT and has been in sales all his life. Dominic has been in IT for eighteen years with experience ranging from IT infrastructure management to backup and disaster recovery. Together, they re a formidable duo with over thirty years of experience and a skill set that runs the gamut. Their working relationship was going great, but this duo had a problem. They needed a great backup and disaster recovery software solution, but they also needed a vendor they could work with to help them with implementation and support. They needed a partner that worked as well with them as they worked together. Spencomp knew what they needed, but they learned quickly that it s not always easy to find what you re looking for. 3 SOLVING PROBLEMS It all started with the value Spencomp found in StorageCraft technology. As Dominic puts it, Over the years, we implemented many disaster recovery solutions, but none met our requirements in the long run. StorageCraft is what Spencomp was looking for in terms of reliability and flexibility. We use the IT edition [of StorageCraft ShadowProtect ]. It s a great product. We ve been able to back up and restore physical machines and it allows us to restore P2V. We can virtualize a backup and it s great for migrating over to different platforms. It s a lot of help to us, but more importantly, to our customers. But it didn t stop there. Todd explained that they needed more than just reliable backups, they also needed a place to put them and a way to get them there. We were having problems with our other backup and disaster recovery solutions so we decided to go our own route and use our own hardware built around the StorageCraft solution. According to Dominic, Spencomp got to work and eventually put together the solution they needed. A little more than two years ago we invested in servers, SANs, dual firewalls, and an SSL access appliance to a collocation facility to start our own DR site. We tried many other solutions for backing up customer s data and moving it offsite, but none of those solutions worked really well. Dominic found that ShadowProtect and StorageCraft ImageManager, both pieces of the StorageCraft Recover- Ability solution, were critical in the implementation of their disaster recovery solution as it allowed them to replicate client backups to the disaster recovery site quickly, easily, and safely. StorageCraft addressed our issues with StorageCraft ImageManager and their StorageCraft ShadowStream technology, which is now the only solution we use to seamlessly transfer a safe copy of our customer s data. The copies allow us to recover data or entire servers in the event that a site goes down. We also have the possibility to virtualize their environment and give them access remotely through the use of an SSLencrypted connection.
