1 Role Description Sales and Marketing Manager Sales and Marketing Manager: Part Time Sydney Philharmonia Choirs (SPC) promotes the joy of choral singing and is Australia s longest established choral organisation. SPC comprises a number of internationally regarded choral groups which perform across the year in contexts as diverse as public places, churches and arenas to major concert venues such as Sydney Opera House. This new position reflects the SPC s commitment to maximising its ticket sales through effective sales and marketing. The purpose of this role is to lead SPC to a new phase in its Sales and Marketing activities particularly using digital and social media. The role applies equally to driving ticket sales to the recruitment of singers to take part in SPC s exceptional events. 2 Role Description Sales and Marketing Manager Sales and Marketing Manager Line Manager: General Manager Purpose Sydney Philharmonia Choirs (SPC) promotes the joy of choral singing and is Australia s longest established choral organisation. SPC comprises a number of internationally regarded choral groups which perform across the year in contexts as diverse as public places, churches and arenas to major concert venues such as Sydney Opera House. This new position reflects the SPC s commitment to maximising its ticket sales through effective sales and marketing. SPC also recognises the tangible link between the number of singers involved with SPC, the number of tickets sold, and the organisation s financial health. Therefore, recruitment of singers to our Choirs and events is an essential part of the role. SPC has been moving away from traditional media for Sales and Marketing purposes and focusing more effort on digital and social media. The purpose of this role is to lead SPC to a new phase in its Sales and Marketing activities particularly using digital and social media. The Sales and Marketing Manager will have access to our large and willing community of singers who collectively, in terms of social media and word of mouth, provide some of our strongest marketing resource for ticket sales, alongside major venues such as the Sydney Opera House. Providing the inspiration and collateral for our Choristers to get involved in campaigns will be a key part of this role. Schedule of Duties To work with the Marketing Committee to devise Sales and Marketing strategies which support the approved strategic direction of the organisation Drive specific campaigns (e.g., recruitment, individual concerts) To create and deliver Sales and Marketing plans to drive/maximise ticket sales and or recruitment To create and drive social media campaigns which maximise singer involvement and engagement, use appropriate platforms and which demonstrably drive ticket sales and recruitment. To monitor and analyse sales/recruitment and respond with initiatives to further boost sales/recruitment in order to at least achieve the target for each performance, choir or activity To oversee the creation of collateral, physical and on- line which adheres to the agreed marketing strategy and appeals to the target market. 3 Role Description Sales and Marketing Manager To oversee full and effective use of the functions of the Box Office System (currently Pro- Venue Max), including reporting, analytical support and database development To work with the General Manager on an ongoing basis to revise and refresh the website ensuring it is intuitive, functional and serving all our customers well To ensure the website s content and functionality drives sales, is inspiring, current and helpful as well as acting as a portal for more information about our concert performances and the music being performed Liaison This position reports to the General Manager. The Marketing and Development Co- ordinator role is a shared resource. That position also reports to the General Manager but is responsible to the Marketing Manager for delivery on assigned tasks. A Marketing Committee, which is made up of Board Members and external experts, including SPC s PR, meets monthly to agree strategy and delivery plans, to monitor progress and to provide input as and when required. The Sales and Marketing Manager will be expected to attend, report on activity and be a major contributor to Marketing Committee meetings. External suppliers: print and design; website and e- commerce; box office; venues People who sing with SPC. This is a major resource for dissemination of markting collateral and messages as well as ticket sales. In any one year this is a body of 1500 people all of whom have the capacity to support Sales and Marketing by word of mouth and social media. The Music Director, Brett Weymark, who devises the concert programs will be a source of information about the music, nature of the performances and themes. SPC has a PR who works on a freelance basis: Janet Glover PR. Essential Requirements Ability to o Work the equivalent of two and a half days per week, ideally with a presence in the office every day. Work additional hours by prior agreement, particularly in concert performance weeks or other peak times. Experience of delivering social media campaigns informed by effective analysis of digital and social media activity using tools such as Google Analytics and delivered using different platforms/tools such as Google Adwords, Facebook advertising etc Proven ability to o deliver sales o create sales and marketing campaigns and implement them effectively o write and/or edit copy o work effectively with a range of different, demanding stakeholder groups 3 Sydney Philharmonia Limited File name: Marketing Manager FINAL 22 January 2015.docx Version dated: 22 January 2015 Page 3 of 5

4 Role Description Sales and Marketing Manager o work autonomously and proactively but be able to work effectively and contribute positively to a small team o take the customers perspective and produce appropriate physical and virtual collateral which results in conversion to sales o manage time and prioritise work effectively o analyse the effectiveness of campaigns, data and to create new strategy from such analysis Experience of working in a busy customer focused environment Computer literate (MAC and PC) with a high level of proficiency in database management, MS Office and ideally Box Office systems. Place of work The role is based at SPC s offices: Pier 4, Hickson Road, Walsh Bay, Sydney. Some travel throughout Sydney and occasionally beyond will be required.
