Definitions Throttling Features and techniques related to the limiting and/or deferral of orders which would otherwise exceed the capacity available at the time the order would need to be prepared. Learn more about ordering throttling. Throttling: Orders Per Window Strategy Determines the number of orders that are allowed per period. Each period is defaulted to 15 minutes but it can be expanded by the `minutes before` and `minutes after` settings in Olo Admin. Channel Management Features and techniques related to the relative acceptance rate of one digital sales channel to another, directly and indirectly. Channel preference may be manually adjusted by day/daypart or dynamically adjusted dynamically.

Introduction Olo has four (4) types of Order Throttling strategies that brands are welcome to use. Currently, all digital orders, regardless of order source, will be subject to the same strategy that a brand chooses. But because brands are now working with several marketplace partners and are allowing orders from various sources to be transmitted down to a store s POS through Rails, we ve launched a feature that will allow a brand to limit incoming orders based on where the order originated from ( Channel Management ) in addition to establishing a priority amongst the channels ( Yield Management ). The first strategy that we are launching with Channel Management is Orders Per Window strategy. Previously, Olo customers were only able to set a single strategy at a channel level that would affect all stores. But not all stores should be throttled the same way some stores can expect a lot more volume and therefore have a lot more kitchen capacity, others may be smaller or serving smaller markets. Features Released We have three (3) new features we d like to share: 1. Dashboard users are now able to turn off Order Throttling for Orders per Window strategy per store 2. Dashboard users can set Orders Per Window Strategy per Store 3. Dashboard users can set Orders Per Window Strategy per Marketplace Partner

Orders Per Window Strategy: Throttling with Channel Management Throttling branded assets A brand that accepts orders will have the ability to specify throttling limits for all orders incoming from various branded platforms. For example, a brand accepts orders from Mobile Apps, Kiosk, Desktop (regardless of the front-end UI/UX provider) is considered a single `channel` currently and would therefore have a single throttling limit that will affect all orders incoming from their branded assets. How To Enable Step 1: Navigate to Olo Admin Channel Settings and select Orders Per Window as the strategy.

Then, fill out the Window Throttler: # Orders (Max) with the maximum number of orders per window that should be allowed across all stores. This is the channel default for the setting and can be adjusted per store in Dashboard. Tip: If you will be setting different limits on a per store-basis, try setting the channel default a higher number so that you can throttle down per store. Step 2: Turn on Supports Throttling for stores For each store that should be throttled, you will also need to turn on Supports Throttling. Tip: You may run into an error This vendor's company must have a Default Max Preparation Minutes set before enabling throttling. when trying to turn on Supports Throttling in Olo Admin Vendor Settings. In order to remove this blocker, you ll need to set the Default Max Prep Minutes in the Company fields. This field is not going to be used for the strategy, it just helps to unblock turning on Throttling for this strategy. This can be improved for sure! Please bear with us. :)

In order to change the limits for each store in Dashboard, please turn on Show Order Throttling Settings on Dashboard in Misc. Settings. Now you re ready to set limits per store in Dashboard!

Step 3: Set Orders Per Window strategy limits per store In Dashboard, locate the store and click on Order Throttling with Channel Management. As a Dashboard user, the user is able to turn on/off throttling from within Dashboard. The user is also able to set their preferred Orders Per Window limit. Please note that the default is pulled from the channel default set in Olo Admin.

Throttling with Channel Management Great now you know how to turn on Orders Per Window Throttling per store. A store that accepts orders from various branded platforms in addition to marketplaces will have the ability to specify different throttling limits for each channel. How To Enable Throttling with Channel Management Step 1: Check if the Store has enabled Rails for a partner The first thing to check is to make sure that a store is working with marketplace partners. Please see this document for instructions to enable Rails access for marketplace partners. Only active and Rails-enabled marketplace partners will appear in the Advanced channel limits settings. Step 2: Set Orders Per Window strategy per channel When a Dashboard user turns on Advanced channel limits, the user has an option to set a limit on branded assets as well as each partner that the store is working with. If a limit is not enabled per channel, then all of the orders incoming from that source will be limited by the overall Orders Per Window limit.

FAQs If I set the following limits, what is really happening? How many orders am I really allowing? Orders Per Window Max Orders Branded Assets Enable Limit: No - Marketplace 1 Enable Limit: Yes 15 Marketplace 2 Enable Limit: Yes 15 This means that for a given window, if 100 orders are incoming from branded assets, all 100 will be successful but the 101th order will be throttled. But if 100 orders are incoming from a variety of sources, only 15 orders will be allowed from Marketplace 1 and 15 orders will be allowed from Marketplace 2. By choosing Enable Limit: No on a channel, it means that the channel is not limited separately from the overall Max Orders Per Window. Let s say the user chose to limit their branded assets to 50 orders per window: Orders Per Window Max Orders Branded Assets Enable Limit: Yes 50 Marketplace 1 Enable Limit: Yes 15 Marketplace 2 Enable Limit: Yes 15 Effectively, once 50 orders are transmitted to the store through the branded assets, no more orders will be allowed for that window. In addition, the effective max orders per window is actually 70 ( ), not 100.

My store supports Order Throttling but the brand doesn t use Orders Per Window strategy. Can I still use this feature? Unfortunately, Channel Management is only supported on the Orders Per Window Strategy at this time. I can t see the Advanced channel limits option in the Order Throttling with Channel Management page. What do I do? Your store in question needs to be enabled for Rails. Please check with your Olo specialist. I m working with a marketplace but the partner is not appearing in the list of External Ordering Providers on the Order Throttling with Channel Management page. How do I get the partner to appear? Only enabled partners will appear in this list. Please check with your Olo specialist to work on enabling other marketplaces that may not be visible.
