1 Gujcot Trade Association Dear All Cotton Friends Monthly Report May 2018 We are approaching end of the current cotton season 2017/2018. Remaining four months of the monsoon will give slow arrivals. We hope the whole Textile value Chain will be benefitted by these data and will help us in future to achieve our goal to serve our cotton trade. Conclusion During month of May Gujarat has pressed 10,29,953 Bales of Shankar 6 and 44,410 Bales of V-797, Total pressing 10,74,363. Cumulative Pressing till 31 st May is 1,17,77,759 Bales (shankar 6 1,15,17,456 Bales and V-797 2,60,303 Bales, which is equivalent to total 1,12,23,512 Bales of 170 Kgs. ( Shankar 6 1,09,75,458 Bales and V797 2,48,053 Bales). Average per day Pressing was 34,657 running Bales for 31 days. We have added 9 Ginning factories to our list which were left our in our previous list, with total pressing till end of may 78,303 Bales. This Month we have also downward revised few pressing figures which were reported higher than actual pressing on the month of April. During the Month of May pressing remained much higher than anybody s expectation for following main reasons. 1. Ginners had ginning parity because of good sale of Kapas by farmers. 2. Ginner got extra margin as the cotton market broke it s 40,500 42,500 Rs/candy range and headed towards 45,000 high because of various domestic as well as international factors.

2 3. Farmer had set certain price of the Kapas in their mind which they achieved with support of cotton and cotton seed market. And because of that more than expected kapas came into market during this month. Rate of 29 mm Shankar 6 cotton was remained between 41,700 to 44,750. Gujarat ginners holding 5 lakhs bales Shankar and 80,000 bales V-797. MCX exchange stock in Gujarat is near 95,000 bales. CCI has unsold of 20,000 bales in Gujarat. Merchants and investor holding 4,00,000bales in Gujarat. Although nearly 11 lakhs bales available as unsold. Still Saurashtra zone has 5 lakhs bales kapas with farmers, North Gujarat, Madhya Gujarat and Kutch has small quantity kapas to come. Out state arrival depend on parity. At present scenario shows Gujarat pressing will cross 115 lakhs bales of 170 Kgs. With hike in crude price and rupee depreciate to 68.5 against dollar. Depreciation of rupee and uptrend in foreign future keep India cheaper so export inquiry was regular and supported to Indian physical market. Global During the month of May there was big volatility in all foreign cotton futures. NY July futures gained 9.31 cents per lbs and China crossed 18,000 mark. This volatility lead Indian physical market in Bull Run. Also weather in Texas USA and China Played crucial role to lift the future markets to touch it s season s peak. US export sales was excellent in all 4 week of May. Weather in China and Texas play vital role in this BULL RUN. Open interest in July NY was higher and inverse to December was key factor. Basis traders were wrong footed and speculator dominate the market during May.Chinese fund also play vital role in this BULL RUN.
