2 RESULTS DAY: THURSDAY AUGUST 16 th 2018 Please read this infrmatin carefully If yu d nt get the results yu need t get int yur firm r insurance chice f University yu can cme int cllege n the mrning f results day t receive advice. The A level results will be released t all students in tw ways: 1 Via My Aquinas On results day yu will be able t lg n t the My Aquinas website frm am t access yur results. 2 Frm Cllege If yu require a Prvisinal Statement f Results ne can be cllected frm cllege frm 9.00 am n results day. Yu may need this especially if yu are gaining emplyment as the examinatin bards d nt send ut any frmal cnfirmatin f yur results. Yu will receive yur fficial cnfirmatin when yu are given yur certificates n Certificate Evening - Mnday 17th December Please make sure yur cntact details (address and mbile phne number) n My Aquinas are up-t-date. The fllwing imprtant dates are frm the examinatin bard regarding Reviews f Marking. If yu feel a mistake has been made with the marking f yur examinatin paper which means yu have lst yur University place yu may cnsider a remark especially if yu have narrwly missed a grade. These dates are subject t cnfirmatin. 24 th August 2018 Last date fr Pririty Remarks (University applicants shuld ideally request by 22 nd ) 24 th August 2018 Last date fr Pririty Phtcpies Cnfirmatin UCAS will send a letter f cnfirmatin t thse students wh have been accepted by their firm r insurance ffer. This may nt arrive n results day but students will be able t check whether their places have been cnfirmed n Track. UCAS Track can be accessed at UCAS have stated that Track will be wrking frm 8.00am (Hwever, the UCAS servers may nt be able t handle the traffic s there may be prblems). It is pssible that even when Track is wrking sme applicants may find that their chices are nt updated. This can happen if the universities are slw in cmmunicating their decisins t UCAS, yur qualificatins n yur applicatin d nt match the infrmatin received frm the examining bard r it may mean yu are brderline as yu have nt quite achieved the grades in yur ffer. The university is delaying making their decisin as t whether t ffer yu a place as they are waiting t see if ther students decline their place. It is imprtant t remember that if yu have satisfied the cnditins (i.e. achieved the precise results r abve) demanded by yur firm chice, yur place will be cnfirmed and there is n need fr yu t cntact the university cncerned. UCAS will send the majrity f applicants results t the universities and clleges befre results day. It is therefre essential that yu have prvided UCAS with accurate and full examinatin infrmatin. If yu have made any changes t yur qualificatins since yur applicatin t UCAS e.g. yu have withdrawn frm an examinatin, it is imprtant that yu infrm yur firm chice and insurance chice university as this culd delay cnfirmatin f yur place.

3 Universities will have received the results three days earlier and will therefre have had time t decide whether r nt t accept yu shuld yur results have fallen shrt f the ffer yu are hlding. If yu have just failed t meet the cnditins f yur firm chice dn t panic- they may still take yu! If nt, yu may well have been accepted by yur insurance chice. If yu have satisfied the demands f yur insurance ffer, yu d nt need t cntact the university cncerned as they will autmatically cnfirm yur place. If yu have nt met the requirement set by either f yur ffers lk at UCAS Track t check whether r nt yu have still been accepted with the grades yu have achieved. They may have ffered yu a place n anther curse which is similar. If the University d this - check the cntent f the curse very carefully. Is it what yu want t study? Nt achieved the results required If yu have nt met the cnditins f either f yur ffers and have nt been ffered an alternative curse by yur chsen universities yu may need t enter Clearing Cllege will be pen frm 08.00am n 16 th August t ffer supprt and advice t students abut Clearing. If yu are likely t need help when yu cme t cllege be prepared! Yu will need t bring:- Yur UCAS Persnal ID number, username and passwrd The curse cdes Yur mbile phne fully charged Cpy f yur UCAS applicatin frm with yur persnal statement Telephne numbers fr yur firm and insurance ffers The names f admissin tutrs- if yu knw them It may als be wrth yur while giving sme thught t alternative curses and institutins; bring any relevant infrmatin with yu s that yu can make early cntact, thereby increasing yur chances f finding a suitable place. Generally it is better if yu make the phne calls - nt yur parents r tutrs. S bring a fully charged mbile phne. If yu have frgtten yur Persnal ID, Username and Passwrd yu need t cntact the UCAS. ( ) D this in advance f results day. Trying t establish what yur psitin is by telephning the admissins tutr fr the curse is time cnsuming - it can take a few hurs! If yu feel yu may nt get the grades required and still want t g t University start checking UCAS Clearing vacancies frm early July and find ut which curses still have places. Cntact the university befrehand t discuss the curse cntent. Prduce a list f the results day telephne numbers f the universities yu are interested in s yu have them ready n results day. Yu are eligible fr clearing if Yu are nt hlding any ffers Yu have nt withdrawn frm the UCAS scheme The ffers yu were hlding have nt been cnfirmed because yu have nt achieved the results required Yu have declined ffers r yu have nt respnded by the due date and therefre hld n ffers Yu are a late applicant i.e. yu applied after 30th June

4 Curse vacancies in Clearing are published n the UCAS site frm early July until late-september. Yu will need t cntact institutins direct t discuss yur ptins and suitability fr the curse. Hw d yu enter Clearing? If yu are eligible yu will be autmatically entered int an electrnic Clearing system. This will be available n Track. An add clearing chice buttn will appear n yur Track chices screen. This buttn is nt usually available till the afternn f results day in rder fr yu t have time t carry ut research befre making a decisin. What d yu need t d? 1. Make a nte f yur Clearing entry number (This can be fund n Track) and yur Persnal ID number. (The Persnal ID is a 10 character number presented in the frmat and yu will have used it, tgether with yur passwrd, t access Track). Yu will need t qute these during clearing. 2. Check the lists fr the curses that interest yu. Lists f curses with vacancies will be available: In The Telegraph newspaper n Thursday 16 th August 2018 (subject t cnfirmatin) On the UCAS website - Unfficial listings may appear in ther newspapers but these may nt be cmplete University websites will list their wn vacancies 3. Once yu have decided n a curse yu must cntact institutins directly t discuss yur ptins and suitability fr the curse. Yu shuld d this immediately - and yu shuld make this cntact yurself. Try telephning first - this is the quickest way. If yu can t get thrugh try ing r even visiting the department! If the University are satisfied yu have met their entry criteria they will give yu a verbal ffer stating that yu must accept it within a given time perid. 4 Once yu have a verbal acceptance yu must then put the details n Track. The university will then cnfirm yur place n Track by displaying clearing accept. 5 Even if yu d manage t srt ut a place thrugh clearing shrtly after getting yur results, yu will usually nt be able t input yur clearing ffer until the afternn f 16 th August. (This stps yu rushing int a decisin as yu can nly put ne clearing place int the system). 6. When yu find a place thrugh Clearing and been accepted UCAS will send yu fficial cnfirmatin. Further advice abut hw t apply fr vacancies in Clearing is n the UCAS site. Clearing vacancies will be listed n their search tl frm early July.

5 Adjustment Are yur results better than expected?...in a small number f cases applicants achieve better results than required fr the firm ffer they have accepted and may want t recnsider their chice. Applicants wh have achieved better results will, fr five calendar days nly, be able t lk fr an alternative curse that has places available whilst still hlding their riginal chice. This five day perid will usually start frm 16 th August. There will be a buttn n the Track system t enter the adjustment prcess. D nt press this buttn if yu are intending ging t the university fr which yu are hlding an ffer. Full details f this will be available nearer the time n the UCAS website. There will be n Adjustment vacancy lists but universities have been encuraged t be pen abut available places n their website. If yu are in a psitin t take advantage f this adjustment perid (i.e. t apply fr a curse fr which yu had previusly nt expected t achieve the entry requirements) there will be staff in cllege n Thursday 16 th and Friday 17 th August t ffer advice. Student Number Cntrls Universities and clleges can penly recruit students with ABB+ r equivalent as they d nt cunt twards the ttal number f places given t them by the Gvernment. In practice this means that if Universities can accmmdate mre students n a particular curse and the student achieves at least A,B,B r equivalent then the university culd ffer that student a place. Fundatin Year If yu dn t meet the Maths r science entry requirements fr a science/technlgical degree then a university may ffer yu a ne year fundatin /access curse that gets yur sciences up t scratch. The reasn may be yu did nt pick the crrect A levels but smetimes it may be because yu did nt achieve high enugh grades in the A levels yu tk. Check where the curse is based as it can be franchised ut t a partner cllege. Find ut the csts f the curse and check with the University n their transfer plicy t the higher level curse nce the fundatin year has been cmpleted. Fundatin Degrees and Higher Natinal Diplmas Tw year-lng FDs and HNDs have similar cntent and aims i.e. bth are vcatinal (jb related curses) with lwer entry requirements than degrees. As with Fundatin Year curses, these may be studied at a lcal partner cllege. Success in either curse may allw entry t a full hnurs degree at year tw r even year three. Please Nte It is unwise t be away frm hme n results day especially if yu are ut f the cuntry. If yu want yur results t be psted t yu, please leave a stamped addressed envelpe at the main ffice befre yu leave. On the inside f the flap yu shuld write yur name, tutr grup and subjects.

6 Remember There will be sme staff in Cllege n August 16 th and 17 th fr drp in appintments. If yu require further supprt the fllwing week staff will be available but please ring t make an appintment. Nt Ging t University Hpefully yu have nw secured an apprenticeship r made alternative plans fr next year. If yu are still lking fr an apprenticeship psitin, make use f the service The Apprenticeships Stre ffers during the summer. They are based in Stckprt at Stckprt Exchange, near the swimming pl. Staff will supprt yu t lk fr vacancies and will help with yur applicatin. Yu will als be given supprt t register n the Natinal Apprenticeship Database if yu have nt already dne s when yu visited the Apprenticeship Stre during tutrial. Alternatively, yu can apprach apprenticeship training prviders directly. They will als supprt yu in finding an apprenticeship.
