2 Introduction The Murrindindi Business Awards are officially returning in 2017 to celebrate business excellence in the Murrindindi Shire. Last held prior to the 2009 bushfires, Murrindindi Shire Council and Murrindindi Inc. have a joint vision to reinvigorate this once successful event to honour local businesses delivering exceptional products and services within our region. Designed to acknowledge the high level of achievement of our local businesses, the awards seek to identify examples of best practice as well as industry role models that will deliver a sense of pride and inspiration to fellow business operators. In February 2017, local businesses will be invited to nominate for six awards acknowledging excellence in customer service, products and service, workmanship and business excellence as well as young local business leaders. The event will culminate in an official Awards Gala Dinner and be attended by 200 business and community leaders. Event Hosts Murrindindi Inc. Murrindindi Inc is a collaboration of Murrindindi Shire Business and Tourism Associations and Chambers of Commerce. Incorporated in February 2014, Murrindindi Inc is the coalition of Alexandra Traders and Tourism Association, Kinglake Ranges Business Network, Lake Eildon Houseboat Industry Association, Marysville Triangle Business and Tourism, Murrindindi Food and Wine, Alexandra Events and Y Water Centre. The organisation exists to provide innovative, inclusive business support to local business and tourism associations and to facilitate successful strategic planning and marketing, skills training and workforce development and strong, sustainable economic growth for the businesses and communities of the Murrindindi Shire. 2 Murrindindi Shire Council The Murrindindi Shire Council administers the Shire of Murrindindi which spans 3879 square kilometres and encompasses the rural townships of Alexandra, Eildon, Kinglake, Marysville and Yea. The Shire benefits from great natural beauty and tourist attractions such as Lake Eildon, picturesque national parks, the Great Victorian Rail Trail and access to Victoria s snowfields.

3 Event Background Purpose & Aims The Murrindindi Business Awards have been created to recognise and celebrate business excellence in the region. By positioning the awards as Murrindindi s most prestigious event, the overall aim is to set best practice benchmarks to inspire local businesses to strive for continued improvement in the delivery of services and products. The long-term objectives of the awards look to further develop the Shire s local economy by: Acknowledging and highlighting the achievements of business Educating the general public with examples of business best practice Motivating other business owners to improve and develop their businesses Developing a sense of pride in the Murrindindi Shire Building self-confidence by rewarding business excellence Providing role models and mentors for other local businesses Encouraging business leadership and skills in the Murrindindi Shire Murrindindi Business Award Categories The 2017 Murrindindi Business Awards comprise the following six award categories: The Award for Excellence in Customer Service Awarded to a business that offers high customer service that recognises, demonstrates and values their customers The Award for Excellence in Products & Service Awarded to a business that delivers an exceptionally high quality product or service The Award for Excellence in Innovation Awarded to a business that demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement Young Business Person of the Year Recognises the contribution of a person under the age of 30 from the Murrindindi Shire business community. The Award for Excellence in Business (business with 5 employees and under) Recognises business with a maximum of 5 employees that has attained significant growth and is able to demonstrate specific strategies and processes implemented to achieve sustainable growth. The Award for Excellence in Business (businesses with 6 or more employees) Recognises business with 6 or more employees that has attained significant growth and is able to demonstrate specific strategies and processes implemented to achieve sustainable growth. 3
