2 2 Piglets Pantry Ltd (PP) Piglets Pantry Ltd (PP) is a small business that was started in 2011 when entrepreneur Joanna Hunter left her job to fulfil her dream of setting up a bakery serving really good food. PP started out by making pies. Popular pies include butternut squash and spicy vegetable, steak, and chicken balti. The pies are still made to the same traditional recipes which Joanna designed and all the fillings are made by hand. The food is mostly sold at sporting events such as in football stadiums. 5 PP began by selling at Brighton and Hove Albion s football stadium and by 2012 it was selling between 8,000 and 10,000 pies a game. PP s website states, We sell more pies than any other stadium in the UK wow! PP now sells its products at many other sporting events. PP s products now also include other savoury items (such as quiches and sausage rolls) and sweet items (such as cakes). Joanna is keen to keep in touch with customers requirements and so PP carries out primary research. New products are being developed and sold all the time and 2015, for example, saw the launch of the Wakey Wakey Breakfast pie. The company has won a number of awards in its short lifetime, including four Golds in the British Pie Awards in To expand so quickly and so successfully, PP needed a clear plan, a thorough knowledge of market trends and a willingness to listen to customer views via primary research In 2013 PP created a new website. The website, which performs a number of useful functions, also provides information about the business and how it operates. PP is keen to develop a positive relationship with its suppliers and tries to always use locally sourced fresh ingredients where possible. All meat used by PP is from UK farms. People matter as well. When it comes to employment, PP s website states that, We employ people not CVs*. We are passionate about our pies, everyone who works with us or for us will either have had a hand in making or tasting our lovely food. 20 PP looks set for further success in the future. *CV stands for Curriculum Vitae a written statement of a person s qualifications and work experience. It is submitted when applying for a job.
