Depends on your goal!

What is your goal for using social media? Building my personal learning network (PLN) Connecting with my friends Changed your FB profile pic to support a cause? What is your goal for using social media? Enhance my lessons in class

Each platform has its advantages Public, ability to jump on national and local conversations, networking Visual and creative Largest social network Short and sweet! Easy to learn Can do everything text, video, photos, tagging, 360, live Politicians, leaders and educators have Twitter accounts Can be great to engage younger educators, students + parents Most CTA members know how to use Use of hashtags allows for larger audiences Show instead of tell Can speak to one s own community of friends easily

And disadvantages.. Must have a public account in order to use effectively Some may not feel comfortable with their photography skills Very insular, most people have private profile accounts, have to be friends to engage Only 140 characters to express an idea Must have the app in order to use effectively Becoming more corporatized (charging $ for posts to be seen) Can be a bigger learning curve (special language hashtags, retweets) Many older folks are not on it Many younger folks don t use it regularly Can be difficult to express certain topics visually Changes features often, privacy settings can be difficult

What about Facebook? Facebook is beneficial, but can be insular Great tool to keep in touch with people you know Many educators choose FB to keep in touch with family & friends. They use Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and/or LinkedIn for professional purposes
