It s a great elevator pitch to have! Twitter & Instagram bios can be the same or you may choose to alter them, but try to make it easier for people to find you by having same username across platforms

29 Social Media & Legal Issues No one-size-fits all social media policy Not all states require a policy Check to see if your district has a social media policy or guidelines

30 Social Media & Legal Issues View NYC Schools staff & student guidelines, teacher guide Overly restrictive policies can violate first amendment rights Schools should work with legal counsel to proactively educate students, teachers & administrators

31 Social Media & Legal Issues: Best Practices Know your school s social media policies and/or guidelines. Check social media privacy settings - they change often! Use common sense: post appropriate language & content at all times. If you question it at all, find something else to post. Be safe than sorry. Teachers are often held to the highest standard, so use common sense on your personal accounts too. Parents & teachers will look you up. Social media has amazing benefits!

32 Social Media & Legal Issues: Best Practices Consider having a public social media account to use in the classroom. Give the info to parents, students, administrators. Be transparent about social media use in the beginning and include everyone in the process. Examples? Be a model for your students, parents & school community. Use social media well and appropriately, and show the benefits. Try not to take a fear-based approach. Our students need to be prepared for a world with social media.
