3 Purpose of Social Media Social Media isn t only about selling a product or service. It s about engaging with an audience or community, having fun with them, making new connections, giving them reasons to talk to you and about you, finding out about them, having a conversation and building a long term relationship

4 Purpose of Social Media Connect with the ecosystem Facilitate two-way communication Help the makerspace community be your champions Listening and interacting vs. telling Viral effect can carry makerspace project messages a long way

6 Mission Statement CCC Maker makerspaces social media will facilitate sharing information to reach the community, local business, community leaders, students, teachers and the media. While retaining the overarching message of CCC Maker, the biography of each makerspace shall also reflect how it is unique. Mission aligned with CCC Maker Vision and Mission:

7 Goals Educate the audience on aspects of the makerspace - membership detail; technology, tools, and equipment; workshops and classes offered; speaking events; mentorship; physical space description Grow makerspace membership and community participation

8 Goals Share event information - such as outside industry events and workshops; education and training; highlight makerspace mentors; networking, progress, project and people highlights Create community and engage in discussion Grow interest from businesses and community leaders

9 Policies Always follow your college policies When choosing account NAME on social media accounts; follow CCC marketing naming guidelines. Use consistent CCC messaging, bio, description, logo, etc. You are responsible for what you post. If you will be using interns or multiple people will be posting, you may want to require that the person s initials are used at the end of a post.

10 Policies Use of obscenities, insults, or other offensive references or content is inappropriate and is strictly forbidden. Don t use copyrighted material without permission. Develop and maintain procedures for removing infringing content after receipt of notice. Respond to take-down requests within 48 hours. Be aware and follow the terms and conditions of use for any third-party social media site that you use. Follow CCC Code of Conduct, anti-discrimination and harassment policy, and privacy and security policies.

11 Monitor for reputation, comments, messages, hashtags, mentions. Establish policy for problem/negative posts When in doubt, wait. Remember that content published online becomes a part of the permanent record. Think carefully before posting and avoid making quick remarks. You can always respond later, but you can t take back previous comments. Policies
