1 Summer 2016 $2 GRANITE GETAWAY! Showcasing the beauty of the Granite State, the $2 Granite Getaway scratch game goes on sale at the end of August. Four New Hampshire scenes rotate throughout the game from two local photographers, Harry Litchtman of Newmarket and Jeff Sinon of Farmington. The Lottery teamed up with Bass Pro Shops to offer this scratch ticket, which is sure to be a huge hit with players! This game will offer more than $1.5 million in instant cash prizes, including 5 top prizes of $20,000. Non-winning tickets for this game will be eligible for entry into the Lottery s Granite Getaway second-chance drawings (two drawings over the course of the game) for a chance for your players to win an exciting vacation to one of three New Hampshire getaways of their choice: The Cabins at Lopstick in Pittsburg, the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, or the Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle! Each getaway includes a $3,500 gift certificate for lodging as well as $1,500 to spend on any number of seasonal activities such as whale watching, stand-up paddle board lessons, moose watching, zip-lining, fly fishing, snowmobiling, crosscountry skiing, snowshoeing and more! Players will also have the chance to win Bass Pro Shops gift cards! Entries must be submitted through the second-chance drawing website, nhlottery.com/bps. When this scratch game is launched, remember to keep all scratch ticket dispensers and WinStations full and be sure to remind your players about the second-chance entry opportunity. Please speak to your Lottery Sales Representative about other ways to promote this exciting new scratch game, which will be popular throughout the late summer and fall seasons! It s summer selling season, a great time to be a Lottery retailer! Summer fun means hot deals with beach-goers looking for beverages and snacks to take to the Seacoast, road trippers traveling to the Lakes Region, campers in Mount Washington Valley and more all stopping into your stores on the way! And what goes better with all of that fun? Entertaining scratch tickets along with big jackpot game tickets like Powerball and Mega Millions, of course! The scratch games continue to set new sales records. That s not only good for your bottom line; it s great for public education, which benefits from Lottery proceeds every day! The new scratch games we ve developed are helping to drive this success. Scratch games account for more than 70 percent of our total game sales, so it s vital for us to keep the product line fresh and offer an exciting play experience. We ve worked hard over the past few years to optimize the scratch game shipments you receive each month. It s important for each retailer to receive the right games, in the right quantity, at the right time. Your Lottery Sales Representative as well as your Tel-Sell Representative both have your best interests at heart and strive to meet your sales goals. On the retailer side of the equation, it s essential for you to actively monitor and refresh scratch game inventories in order to keep your customers happy and maximize sales. Don t forget to post those jackpot amounts, the winning lottery numbers and above all, suggest the sale! Let us know how we re doing. We seek your input on how the Lottery can help retailers be more effective in marketing games and maximizing sales. I encourage you to share suggestions and feedback with your Lottery Sales Representative and they, in turn, will share that information with all of us. We look forward to hearing from you! NH Lottery Director Charlie McIntyre

2 ACCESSIBILITY MATTERS! The arrival of warmer, summer weather means that it s an ideal time for Lottery retailers to make sure all Americans With Disabilities (ADA) requirements are being met. When repainting parking areas, make sure all ADA standards are met for spots reserved for customers with disabilities. Keep signs from restricting pathways or blocking doors. Ensure all clerks are correctly trained about the need to provide reasonable accommodations to customers with disabilities. If you have questions about ADA compliance, please contact New Hampshire Lottery employee Andrea Madden, Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM at Train Your Way to Stronger Sales Just like athletes train to win competitions, smart retailers know that being well-trained in using Lottery equipment and knowing about the games can give their business an edge by keeping customers happy. Do you have an employee who excels at training coworkers? Send them to Lottery training so they can return to your store and share what they ve learned with the rest of the team. Managers, front-end managers, customer service coordinators and cashiers can all benefit from attending training classes. Remember that a wide range of helpful sales tips and more are available from your Lottery Sales Representative or by using the MicroLot terminal s training mode. Contact your Lottery Headquarters to learn about upcoming training classes, which are offered on a regular basis. The time you invest in training can pay dividends for your business! FACT OR FICTION OR WHICH PICK WINS THE JACKPOT MOST OFTEN? Q: Is a player more likely to win the jackpot with an easy-pick ticket instead of picking their own numbers? A: FICTION! Since the majority of winning tickets are easy-picks, we can see why most of our players think that s the luckier route to take. But we d like to set the record straight! In reality, it makes no difference how players select their numbers it s all in the luck of the draw! The percentage of easy-pick and player pick tickets sold closely corresponds to the number of easy-pick and player pick winners. As a jackpot grows however, those players who usually don t play and now want to be a part of the fervor, often ask for the sake of time, for an easy-pick ticket. We do see a higher amount of easy-pick selections as the jackpot grows and those jackpot wins get a great deal of media coverage. Coverage that emphasizes whether or not the player chose their numbers or won via an easy-pick ticket. So the next time a customer asks which option is luckier, you can tell them they both are!

3 Loss Prevention Tips from New Hampshire Lottery Security GENERAL SECURITY TIPS It is important to keep overall security of the entire retail area in mind. Bright lighting in and around your location increases visibility and has shown to deter crime. Unobstructed windows give clear visibility to the street, sidewalk and parking areas. In-store camera surveillance deters internal loss and is a valuable resource to law enforcement. Recordings should be date and time stamped. A guideline for the retention period of a video recording is 30 days. SCRATCH TICKETS SHOULD BE PROTECTED TO PREVENT LOSS After accepting delivery of tickets and ticket stock, immediately place them in a safe location. Management should keep access to the inventory of tickets to a minimum of employees. Display your tickets out of customer reach. Call the Intralot hotline immediately to report stolen/missing tickets. Never allow a customer access to instant ticket dispensers. Know what games you are selling. The sales agreement with the Lottery prohibits retail employees from playing the Lottery while on duty. Please do not permit employees to play the Lottery while on duty. Keep an inventory of all packs in your store and the status of each pack. Take an inventory of ticket numbers at each shift change. Always sell instant tickets in numerical order. Periodically, management should inspect instant tickets packs in the dispensers to verify that tickets have not been removed from the end of the pack. SALES TIP! For special holidays, such as Mother s Day, Father s Day, Valentine s Day and other celebrations, create bouquets with scratch tickets! It s a great reminder that lottery tickets make great gifts. It also creates an opportunity for you to cross-promote lottery with other products at your business, like flowers, candy bars etc. NOTE: The New Hampshire Lottery will no longer print game brochures. Please direct your customers to our website, nhlottery.com for additional game information. You may also provide them with a print out that may be printed by game, directly from the MicroLot lottery terminal or a game specific play slip that gives directions on how to play, prizes that may be won and odds of winning, as well as prize claiming. THANK YOU A Sales Representative s Perspective on Easy Ways to Impact Your Sales Ticket activation: Getting new scratch tickets out and into dispensers on the day of delivery is essential to increase ticket sales. Curbside appeal: The entrance to your store needs to be neat and clean so it s easy on the customer s eyes. With cluttered windows and doors full of signs and decals, it s too complicated for a person to even register what they are seeing and they end up not seeing anything. When your doors and windows are clean and everything is neat, it is much easier for your customer to notice and read a sign or advertisement. An organized, easy-to-follow scratch ticket dispenser: This is why it is so important to follow a plan-o-gram. People read top-left to right, focusing on the left. The higher price point games should be on the top and left. If the games are all mixed up, it s hard on the eyes to follow and difficult for the customer to find what they want. As you know, eye level is buy level. You follow plan-o-grams for your other store products, so why not Lottery too?

4 Don t Get Scammed! Have Your Customers Follow These Simple Rules: Never cash or claim a lottery ticket for someone you don t know, who asks you to claim it on their behalf. Never pay money to collect a lottery prize. Never give your credit card numbers, bank account numbers or other personal information to anyone trying to sell you a lottery ticket, a membership in a lottery pool or a promising prize. Beware of letters, or phone calls claiming that you ve won a prize in a foreign lottery, but must first pay taxes to collect the prize. These are scams. Playing legitimate foreign lotteries by mail, or on the internet is illegal. Beware of letters, s or phone calls offering you a guaranteed prize. The New Hampshire Lottery does not guarantee you a prize, only the chance of winning one. Beware of urgent solicitations that require a quick response. Buy lottery tickets only from authorized, licensed New Hampshire Lottery Retailers. The New Hampshire Lottery Does Not: Require a winner to pay money up front to claim a prize. Require personal information such as a social security number or bank account numbers from winners over the phone, by or online. A prize of $600 and greater must be claimed through New Hampshire Lottery Headquarters. Require a short response time to cash or claim a winning ticket. Winning lottery tickets must be claimed within one year of purchase (per the draw date on that ticket) or within one year of being removed from sale (scratch tickets). Enter someone into a drawing, promotion for an added bonus or prize, or any other reason without their knowledge. Require you to be a United States citizen to claim a New Hampshire Lottery Prize. You and your customers may report suspected scams to the New Hampshire Lottery s Chief of Security, Leonard Mannino at (603) , your local police department or the New Hampshire Office of Attorney General s Consumer Protection Hotline at or (603) KNOW IT! GAMBLING ADDICTION IN THE GRANITE STATE The New Hampshire Lottery wants to remind retailers and players alike that lottery games are designed to be a fun, low-cost form of entertainment in support of education. While most of our players experience them in this way, for some, gambling of any kind can be a problem. The Lottery s Responsible Gaming Program in partnership with the New Hampshire Council on Problem Gambling reflects the commitment to addressing this issue. The New Hampshire Council on Problem Gambling is a private nonprofit agency created to address the social, financial and emotional costs of problem gambling. The Council provides information, education, advocacy and prevention services as well as referrals to treatment for problem gambling to those affected, their loved ones and the community. The Responsible Gaming Program consists of the following: Providing problem gambling information to all retailers regularly in our newsletters and through our Problem Gambling brochure. Publicizing the New Hampshire Council on Problem Gambling help line number ( ) at the retail level on PAD slides, tickets and additional pieces. Posting links to the New Hampshire Council on Problem Gambling and Gamblers Anonymous on the New Hampshire Lottery website. Collaborating on outreach, awareness and education programs and training with other agencies and mental health providers. Training of Lottery sales staff on problem gambling awareness. Reviewing the problem gaming programs in other states as well as academic articles for possible program changes within the New Hampshire Lottery. Participating in the World Lottery Association Responsible Gaming Framework certification process.
