2 There are many changes that happen in the online world each month, and the GU Crew are here to help keep you on top of the latest developments with our monthly bulletin. FACEBOOK FACEBOOK INTRODUCE A NEW FEATURE CALLED OUR STORY IN THE ABOUT AREA You may be confused, but our story is nothing to do with the stories feature on Facebook. This is a neat little blog style feature that is located in your about area of your Facebook Business Page. It tells the story of your business. NEW FACEBOOK ALGORITHMS ENGAGEMENT BAIT Facebook are cracking down on engagement baiting. If you are using tactics such as share this, click like to enter a competition, vote on your favourite or even tag a friend to try and manipulate the Facebook algorithm it will result in less reach on your posts. If you want exposure for your business on Facebook, you now need to simply produce awesome content or pay for adverts! FACEBOOK IS TESTING A WAY FOR BRANDS TO SEND MASS MESSAGES VIA MESSENGER Is this the end of as we know it? I was listening to a podcast with Pat Flynn a while ago, and he also agreed that messenger will soon be replacing . Fast forward a few years. Will software such as Mailchimp, Aweber or Infusionsoft be dead? What about Microsoft Office, Gmail or Mac Mail? I do think that the youngsters today find that is a slow form of communication. Have you implemented a messenger strategy yet?

3 YOUTUBE YOUTUBE IS LAUNCHING ITS OWN TAKE ON STORIES This week saw the announcement of YouTube s own version of stories (yep, this SnapChat technology is really taking off). YouTube are calling their version Reels. To be clear, Reels is YouTube s spin on Stories, not an exact copy. And Reels won t live at the top of the app, as Stories do on Instagram instead, they ll appear in a brand-new tab on a creator s channel. LINKEDIN NEW LINKEDIN TRENDING SKILLS NOTIFICATIONS The new monthly notification shares relevant trending skills among people with the same job title. If you already have this skill, Linkedin will suggest that you add it to your profile. LinkedIn/Microsoft are certainly investing their development resources in the job seeker at the moment. 4 INSTAGRAM NOW YOU CAN FOLLOW HASHTAGS ON INSTAGRAM This new feature for Instagram allows you to follow a hashtag in a similar way to following a person. Simply search for a hashtag, click on the results to reveal the page and click follow. This also means that it is more important than ever to use hashtags in your Instagram posts. INSTAGRAM TESTING A REGRAM BUTTON AND MORE Whoop! I was very excited to read about the new developments happening on Instagram. These new features are not just Regramming (like retweeting), but adding GIF s in stories, archiving stories and much more. TWITTER TWITTER IS TWEAKING ITS DIRECT MESSAGE FEATURE FOR BUSINESS Twitter announced several updates to its direct message features for businesses, which will better enable brands and developers to provide customer service via the social network. You can now tell if you are speaking to a real person or a bot. BRACE YOURSELF: THE TWEETSTORMS ARE COMING! We will now start seeing Twitter threads in the feed. Twitter has now made it easy to string tweets together by adding a plus button to the composer. It will be interesting to see how this will develop during a hashtag hour event. TWITTER ARE TESTING PTAT PTAT - is Facebook language for People Talking About This. Yep, the Facebook feature is now coming to Twitter. I am not sure how it is measured but it will be interesting to see the results.

5 TOOL OF THE MONTH! PORTRA This week I discovered a new application called Portra which works in a similar way to Prisma, but it creates more creative portraits and images just with an app on your phone. Make a portrait more dramatic! Turn your artistic selfie into real artwork. Available for ios & Android.

6 BOOK OF THE MONTH SLEEP SMARTER: 21 PROVEN TIPS TO SLEEP YOUR WAY TO A BETTER BODY, BETTER HEALTH AND BIGGER SUCCESS BY SHAWN STEVENSON This book was recommended by the Pat Flynn book club. I m short of time this month so it was nice to get a quick read under my belt (this was about an hour on audio). Lots of tips for being more productive and having better quality of sleep. My takeaways:- 1. Turn off blue light and do not look at my phone at least 90 mins before going to bed. 2. Stick with a regular routine. 3. Try not to drink caffeine after 3pm each day. 4. Alcohol makes you fall asleep quicker, but it also wakes you up in the night (especially women!). There are loads of tips here, but the above are the ones I will take action on. 7 WEBSITE CHECKLIST CUT OUT AND KEEP CHECKLIST Is your website creating conversions for you? Is it working from a marketing perspective? It may look absolutely fantastic, but if it lacks the following ten key ingredients then all you are left with is a pretty website that is not really working for you. 1. Do you have a call to action above the fold of the website? 2. Is it very obvious what you do from an initial glance? 3. Are you adding regular blogs or news articles to your site? (Essential for SEO) 4. Do you have any lead generation techniques within the site? 5. Can people share your jobs, properties, blogs or news with their social networks from a click of a button? 6. Can people find your social media channel links on your website? 7. Does your website pass the Google Mobile friendly test? 8. Do you have a visible telephone number on the homepage? Essential on mobile versions. 9. If you have any type of analytics associated with your website then do you have a cookie policy? This is a legal requirement. 10. If you are a limited company, do you have your company registration details on the website including registered number and address?
