2 Intrductin Cngratulatins! Yur pster abstract submissin has been selected fr develpment int a pster t be displayed at NHIA s Annual Cnference Pster Sessin. The NHIA Annual Cnference Pster Sessin is a dynamic, engaging sessin prmting the exchange f new research findings in a visual frmat. This interactive event prvides an pprtunity fr presenters t interact face-t-face with peers at the NHIA cnference while advancing the practice f hme infusin. Clinicians can share their research n infusin related tpics that will serve t imprve patient utcmes, establish best practices r inspire innvatin, and gain feedback n their wrk. Whether yu are an experienced pster authr r new t the pster develpment prcess, NHIA has tls t assist yu with yur abstract. Additinally, mentring services are available fr residents, as well as student nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, and technicians wh wish t submit prpsals. Mentring services, prvided by hme infusin experts with research experience, will guide first-time participants thrugh the submissin prcess. This guide utlines the steps t fllw fr creating a pster with maximal impact and preparing it fr presentatin at the NHIA annual meeting. Psters can nly be displayed if these requirements are met: At least ne authr frm the pster must be registered t attend the NHIA Annual Cnference and be available t discuss the pster during the mderated sessin. In the event an authr received acceptance fr multiple psters, a different individual must present each pster during the mderated pster sessin time. An authr may nt simultaneusly lead discussin fr mre than ne pster in the display. Psters must meet the criteria fr display as utlined in Sectin 1 f this guide. Psters fund t be in vilatin f these criteria are subject t remval frm the display area. 3 Sectin 1: TRANSFORMING YOUR ABSTRACT INTO A POSTER RULES FOR POSTER CONTENT 1. Psters must cntain yur cmplete abstract, as apprved, and relevant details/additins as described belw: a. Title i. The title n the pster must be identical t that in the apprved abstract b. Authrs i. Only the authrs listed n the abstract may be included in the pster. ii. Each authr must be represented by their name and prfessinal credentials. iii. The name f the rganizatin, city, and state must appear nly nce after, r immediately belw, the authr list. iv. If authrs are frm multiple rganizatins, superscripted numbers may be used t differentiate between authr rganizatins (fr an example, please refer t the sample pster arrangement #1 n page 5 f this dcument). c. Backgrund i. This sectin incrprates infrmatin submitted in the abstract, with references added as apprpriate. d. Purpse i. This sectin incrprates infrmatin submitted in the abstract. e. Methds i. This sectin incrprates infrmatin submitted in the abstract, with relevant details and images added as apprpriate. ii. Prprietary r brand names fr drugs, prducts, r services may nly be mentined nce in this sectin as relevant t the infrmatin being relayed by the pster. Further reference t the prprietary r brand drug, prduct, r service must be listed using nn-prprietary names. f. Results i. This sectin incrprates the infrmatin submitted in the abstract, with relevant details added as apprpriate. Tables and charts are an excellent way t display data results. g. Discussin i. This sectin incrprates the infrmatin submitted in the abstract. h. Cnclusins i. This sectin incrprates infrmatin submitted in the abstract. i. Disclsures i. During yur nline abstract submissin, yu were asked t give full disclsure infrmatin fr all authrs. An rganizatinal lg and brand names may nly be used within the guidelines utlined belw. Psters that d nt fllw these lg and brand name guidelines will be disqualified n site and pster authrs will be asked t remve the pster frm display: a. Lg i. Use f an rganizatinal lg is allwed nce n the pster. The size f the lg shuld be n bigger than 2 inches in height and placed at the tp right crner f the pster. ii. An rganizatinal lg is permitted fr each rganizatin that is represented by an authr f the pster. b. Brand Names i. Use f a brand name is limited t ne instance, and may nly be in the methds sectin f the pster. ii. Organizatin names are cnsidered brand names, and must be visible nly in the authr sectin, and nt in the bdy f the pster. 1. In all ther areas f the pster, refer t the rganizatin thrugh generic terms such as "this hspital-affiliated hme infusin department" r "this hme infusin rganizatin. iii. 5 CREATING THE POSTER 1. Pster presentatins shuld incrprate illustrative materials such as tables, graphs, phtgraphs, and large-print text, and materials shuld be clearly readable frm a distance f three feet (primary text fnt shuld be at least 20 pints r larger, and headings fnt at least 30 pints r larger fr readability). a. Use cautin when incrprating graphic images and phtgraphs t ensure any necessary cpyright permissin(s) have been secured 2. All psters must fit n a free-standing bulletin bard that is 4 feet tall x 8 feet wide. The average pster is 36 tall x 60 r 72 wide. 3. Psters shuld be made f materials that are lightweight enugh t hang with push-pins and easy t transprt. Keep in mind that heavy laminated materials usually need mre than ne persn t hang and require many push pins. 4. 6 TIPS FOR ENHANCING YOUR POSTER S APPEAL 1. Viewers shuld be able t understand yur pster withut listening t an explanatin r reading a reprt. 2. Create a pster that is easy t read by using: a. 36-pint bld fnt fr headings and 24 t 30 pints fnt fr the text b. A simple fnt; d nt use all upper case r bld in yur text 3. Minimize the text n a pster t increase its visual appeal. Use ne line statements r bullet phrases t highlight key pints. Use simple graphs, tables, drawings, and (with permissin) phts/clip art with clr t illustrate cmplex and key pints. 4. Apply a lgical frmat r flw t yur pster, such as by arranging text int sectins resembling newspaper clumns. Reflect back n psters yu have fund appealing, and hw they were arranged as well as the clrs and backgrund that were used. 5. Break up large amunts f blcked text with easy t read headings and indented paragraphs. Clearly label each graph, table, and pht, including cpyright permissins where applicable. 6. Clr can either enhance r distract frm yur pster s message cnsider clr chices carefully. 7. Avid an verly busy pster remember that white space can add t the visual appeal, and can be used t draw attentin t key infrmatin. 8. Laminating yur pster material may make it difficult t read because f the reflected light in cnventin centers. 9. Spell ut acrnyms the first time they are used. 10. Spell ut single digit numerals when included in a sentence. 11. Keep in mind yur pster is intended t be a summary. 7 Sectin 2: Displaying Yur Pster On-Site POSTER DISPLAY MADE EASY: The Fur-Step Prcess STEP 1: PICK UP YOUR BADGE Visit registratin and pick up yur cnference badge befre setting up yur pster. Ntify registratin that yu have a pster and they will direct yu t the display area. STEP 2: SET-UP YOUR POSTER All psters must be set-up n their designated pster bard in the Pster Presentatin area n the Mnday, prir t the Exhibit Hall pening. Please ntify the NHIA Educatin Department f any alternate arrangements that are needed t ensure yur pster is ready by this time. Each presenter will be assigned a POSTER BOARD NUMBER. This number identifies the lcatin f yur pster bard in the display area. Pster bard numbers are listed in the nsite prgram bk and cnference app. Pster bard numbers will be prminently displayed at the tp f each pster bard. Please d nt remve r mve pster bard numbers. Pster presenters are encuraged t prvide clr cpies, n 8.5 x 11 paper f their pster fr viewers t pick up thrughut the cnference. Cpies f the pster and any ther handuts may be placed n the designated tables at the frnt f the display area. It is nt necessary t prvide a cpy f the Pster Abstract. STEP 3: ATTEND YOUR POSTER DURING THE DESIGNATED MODERATION TIME Pster authrs shuld be prepared t mderate their pster at their designated time. Mderatin sessins are infrmal; authrs need nly be present and prepared t discuss their wrk. Presentatins and discussins must reflect an unbiased, scientific tne. Remember t bring yur business cards t share with interested attendees! STEP 4: TAKE DOWN YOUR POSTER Psters and all ther materials must be remved frm pster bards immediately fllwing the cnclusin f the Exhibit Hall hurs. Any pster materials left behind may be discarded after the clse f the Exhibit Hall. Dn t frget t check under the tables fr any belngings yu may have stred there. 8 RULES FOR DISPLAYING A POSTER: 1. Pster presenters are respnsible fr bringing their pster and all related handuts and materials needed t display their pster. a. Plan t carry yur pster in a shipping tube r case t the NHIA Annual Cnference. b. If yu must ship materials, send them t yur htel and clearly mark the package with yur name and arrival date. Please be aware that many htels charge a fee t receive packages in additin t the fee yu already paid t ship the items. c. All materials needed t display yur pster must be brught with yu, including push pins t munt yur pster and any ther supplies yu might need. Tape and adhesive cannt be used n pster bards. 2. NHIA cannt stre psters fr yu, and will nt arrange return shipping. 3. The use f prjectin r demnstratin equipment f any kind is nt permitted in the pster area. 4. N additinal furniture r special equipment will be permitted. We d nt prvide chairs. If yu have a medical cnditin that requires yu t sit dwn during yur designated mderated sessin time, please ntify the NHIA Educatin Department in advance and arrangements will be made. 5. N fd r drink, except fr bttled water, is permitted in the pster area. 6. Slicitatin in the pster area is nt allwed. 7. Safeguard yur belngings. a. Cnference security advises that yu nt place yur belngings under the tables in the Pster Presentatin area r leave yur pster unattended with yur valuables nearby. b. If yu d place items beneath a table, please remember t check under the table after yur mderated sessin ends fr anything yu may have left behind. c. Reprt any suspicius activity t security persnnel available at the entrance t the Expsitin Hall.
