3 CRYOGENIC NEWS CRYOGEN-FREE SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET FOR DIAMAGNETIC LEVITATION The vertically-aligned solenoid is housed in a compact cryostat with a 58.5 mm diameter room-temperature bore offering unprecedented accessibility to the levitated sample. A single 1.5 W pulse-tube cold-head is used to cool the magnet system with remote-motor and linear-drive to minimise vibrations. CRYOGEN-FREE TOP LOADING HELIUM-3 REFRIGERATOR At its maximum field the magnet generates a peak levitation force of 1600 T2/m (for water, stable levitation is achieved at a value of 1370 T2/m or above). At this field the levitation point for a water droplet is situated just 22 mm inside the main bore-tube (46 mm below the cryostat top-plate). An optional variable-temperature cryostat is available allowing the full central-field to be used for temperature dependent experiments. Maximum Field: 18.6 T Sample in liquid He-3 for optimum thermal contact This can be supplied with airlock, gate-valve, top-loading measurement probes and parasitic helium-3 for temperatures down to 300 mk. Maximum B.dB/dZ: 1600 T 2 m -1 Bore diameter : 58.5 mm Highest levitation point for water: 46mm below top-plate Central field homogeneity : 0.1 % Temperature control from 260 mk to 300 K Hold-time >24 hours below 300 mk using 10 litre charge of He-3 9 Tesla magnet as standard with options up to 16 Tesla FAST RAMPING 7 TESLA CRYOGEN-FREE MAGNET SYSTEM Cryogenic Ltd has developed a new range of fast-sweeping cryogen-free superconducting magnets using high-performance Nb 3 Sn coils. These magnets provide an ideal platform for XMCD and other polarity switching applications. Here we present data for the standard 7 Tesla solenoid version. A continuous sweep rate of 100 sweeps/hour has been achieved between +/-7 Tesla. At +/-4T the same coil can be ramped continuously at full speed without pause giving up to 670 sweeps/hour. The compact design uses 2x Gifford-McMahon cryocoolers, each providing 1.5W cooling power at 4.2K. Alternative designs are available including split-pair magnets with 4-way access and UHV bore. Key Features Non-stop operation: Continuous sweeping between +/-7 Tesla Fast cooldown: Fully operational within 5 hours of switch on Fast ramping: Ramp rates up to 1.5 T/s. Proven performance of 100 sweeps per hour at +/-7T Fast recovery: In the event of quench, fully operational again within 15 minutes Fast warm up: Overnight warm-up with in-built heaters Power saving mode: Remains operational with one coldhead switched off In-built thermal buffer: Limits peak temperatures during ramping CRYOGEN-FREE 3D VECTOR MAGNET World s first 9T/5T/1T Cryogen Free 3D Vector Magnet with Dilution Refrigerator (DR) and temperature down to 10 mk Vector magnet and Dilution Refrigerator (DR) in shared vacuum space Large 3D Vector magnet with 50 mm magnet bore and 30 mm sample space in DR 4 Tesla rotatable magnetic field over 4π solid angle Top loading Dilution Refrigerator for temperatures down to 10 mk Separate Pulse Tube Cryocoolers for magnet and DR
