1 WELCOME TO NATIONAL STANDARD We proudly manufacture our wires in the U.S.A., with locations in Niles, Michigan and Stillwater, Oklahoma IN NORTH AMERICA, NATIONAL STANDARD IS ONE OF THE TOP PRODUCERS OF WELD WIRE. For more than a century, we have built lasting partnerships with our customers based on quality, consistency, value, and service. Whether it s stainless steel, carbon steel, metal cored or flux cored, we have the quality welding wire you need. SAVING PENNIES AND SPENDING DOLLARS often finds customers in a position to save pennies on their wire costs only to turn around and spend dollars on other costs associated with the welding process. Typically the welding process is made up of the following elements: The Right Product...Guaranteed Our customers know first-hand that s products are among the highest quality in the industry, meeting their demanding specifications with outstanding consistency and performance. We aim to provide The Right Product Guaranteed. If you experience any problems with our products, we promise to make it right. Just let us know and we will make sure you get the help and/or replacement product you need. And then we will work with you to be sure the problem doesn t reoccur. Top-notch quality and service that s the difference. Made in the USA From our start as National Cable and Manufacturing Company more than 100 years ago, we have been supporting American jobs by proudly manufacturing our wires in the U.S.A. The Highest Quality Products & Packaging We are dedicated to the highest purity and cleanliness standards for our welding wires, ensuring a smooth, even feed and long-lasting quality. Our CopperFree and Satin Glide weld wire products are renowned for their superb feedability. Our innovative Tru-Trac packaging has been a proven winner over the years, minimizing tangles, improving feedability, and delivering consistent wire placement, making it ideal for any automated process. Our patent-pending Smart Pak corrugated box package addresses the recycling needs of ever-growing Green initiatives. And our full line of Tru-Core flux cored and metal cored wires deliver world class quality and performance. All of these allow to meet and exceed the needs of the most demanding companies who insist on premium wires. Weld Wire Cost (3-5% of your cost) + Labor & Overhead Cost (85-90% of your cost) + Shielding Gas Cost (5-10% of your cost) = Total Cost Of Welding Lower Welding Wire Cost Lower Total Cost Of Welding The assumption necessary to achieve the above is that all other costs remain the same. In situations were the weld wire cost is the only focus, NS often finds that the total cost of welding increases dramatically as a result of saving a penny or two. Other factors increasing the total cost of the weld are often hidden in the organization until long after the decision to save the penny has resulted in spending many dollars. Other factors to consider would be changes in downtime, rework, scrap, consumable usage, employee job satisfaction and customer (your customer) satisfaction. All Welding Wire Is Not the Same All weld wire sold in North America must meet the specifications of the American Welding Society (AWS) or the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) at a minimum. For the most part all competitors comply. However, the chemistry associated with these standards is wide and open to vast differences in performances for operators. has developed a very specific set of chemistry specifications for its products that are designed to address the demands of our welding customers, the nuances of different welding applications and meet the specifications of AWS & CWB. The key to wires is consistency, consistency to our own demanding specifications, consistency to AWS & CWB specifications and consistency to our customers over time. That is quite a bit different than a welding wire that meets the AWS & CWB specifications, yet perform vastly different from spool to spool due to chemistry variations, lubrication variances and differences in other critical welding wire attributes. 1

3 WIRE CAST AND HELIX NS PREMIUM WELDING WIRE CHARACTERISTICS: Consistent Cast and Helix Yield Weld Uniformity Improper wire cast and helix reduces weld quality and adds to direct labor and factory overhead costs. Small cast and large helix causes the wire to exit the welding gun (contact tip) in constantly changing directions. It also causes downtime due to wire feeding problems. Too large a cast will cause downtime on some equipment due to inconsistent current pickup at the contact tip. Helix is most detrimental when it is inconsistent and varies throughout the spool. This condition can result in arc wander. The amount of wire deflection due to excessive helix increases as cast decreases or as welding stick-out increases. This will result in weld joint tracking problems. CAST is the diameter of the circle formed by a length of wire thrown loosely on the floor. Cast is normally checked before it enters the wire feed system. NS Cast and Helix Characteristics Exceed AWS Standards NS PREMIUM CARBON WELDING WIRE NS SATIN GLIDE STAINLESS STEEL WELDING WIRE TYPICAL COMPETITIVE WELDING WIRES MINIMUM CAST MAXIMUM CAST MAXIMUM HELIX Varies Varies Varies AWS SPECIFICATION 15 1 HELIX is the pitch of a single strand of weld wire measured as the distance one end of a strand of wire laying on a flat surface rises off that surface. Helix is normally checked before it enters the wire feed system. y s controlled cast and helix helps eliminate excessive contact tip and liner wear, reduce arc wander and improve wire feedability. y Manufactured in the USA according to ISO9001:2008 quality standards 3

19 TRU-CORE FC 71T-12C AWS E71T-1C H8, E71T-9C H8, E71T-12C H8 Tru-Core FC 71T-12C is a flux cored, gas shielded, all-position electrode, designed specifically for use with 100% CO 2 shielding gas. FC 71T-12C is intended for single and multiple pass applications, for both in-position and out-of-position welding. The metal transfer in the arc is small-droplet in nature, resulting in a smoother arc and lower spatter levels when compared with other E71T-9C, -12C electrodes. The slag characteristics allow for both fast freezing and good coverage of the weld, which produces a flatter, more uniform bead geometry in all position welds. Microalloying of the weld metal provides enhanced CVN impact values.
