4 Chapter 1 Project Introduction SVAFO facility at Studsvik area near Nyköping Research reactor R2-0 with nominal power of 1 MW th R2-0 Research reactor R2 with nominal power of 50 MW th Shutdown in 2005 after approx. 45 years of operation SVAFO R2 Decommissioning project is split in three phases: Phase 1: Decommissioning of reactors and removal of water in the pools (this project) Phase 2: Decommissioning of pool structures and biological wall (separate project right now in development) Phase 3: Decommissioning of remaining systems and decontamination of buildings inclusive free release (separate project later) R2 SVAFO R2 Decommissioning, Phase 1 S. 6 General subject of scope SVAFO R2 Decommissioning, Phase 1 Planning and preparation of dismantling and segmentation of both swimming pool reactors R2-0 and R2 including ist surrounding installations Performance of dismantling and segmentation works on-site as well as separating the waste in the given waste streams, following the provided reference concept Performance limit is handling over of loaded transport flasks, baskets or components in the reactor hall Any provision of required flasks, baskets, waste containers and related equipment for e.g. drying is with SVAFO Overall task: Clearing of all 3 pools from R2-0, R2 and its surroundings SVAFO R2 Decommissioning, Phase 1 S.
