1 Tools, tips & productivity IKS-PRO for SiAlON and PCBN cutting materials - High-tech engineering of cutting materials and clamping system for maximum cost-effectiveness and universality SPK engineering activities focus on a comprehensive view of the overall system comprising machining tasks, tools and cutting materials. The only way to guarantee highly economical, extremely productive and reliable production is to ensure that cutting materials and tools work together properly and to define the best possible processing workflows. The innovative IKS-PRO notch type clamping system ensures maximum stability and process reliability during use. It offers: - Optimum application and distribution of clamping force in the insert - Form and friction fit clamping for maximum clamping reliability - Clamping for insert thicknesses of 4,76 and 7,96 mm - Alternative use of SiAlON and PCBN cutting materials in the same tool system The high stability of the IKS-PRO clamping system makes it possible to obtain even larger chip cross sections and higher removal rates, which in turn leads to shorter machining times and increased production reliability. The highly wear resistant clamping ele- IKS-PRO: - Longer tool life thanks to the IKS-PRO clamping elements - Shorter machining time thanks to the possibility of higher cutting data 350 WZ GB DD Printed in Germany DIRECT LINE For more information: cutting_tools@ceramtec.de Phone: CeramTec AG SPK Cutting Tool Division Hauptstr. 56 D Ebersbach/Fils Tel Fax cutting_tools@ceramtec.de Performance capability in % Tool life Machining time Conventional clamping system IKS-PRO clamping system

2 ments of the IKS-PRO system can be used on all toolholders in the IKS product range from SPK Cutting Tools. This allows you to take full advantage of the benefits of IKS- PRO and the performance potential of the innovative SiAlON cutting materials with your existing tooling. The innovativ Al 2 O 3 -SiAlON cutting materials from SPK Cutting Tools cover a wide spectrum of use for turning cast iron materials in continuous and interrupted cuts. The newly developed SL 606 and SL 608 grades are distinguished by gradient characteristics that combine an exceptionally hard and extremely wear resistant surface with an extraordinarily fracture resistant insert core. The gradient characteristics of the α -/ β - SiAlON cutting materials can be adjusted depending on the area of use. SL 606 the all-round SiAlON cutting material - For turning with a spectrum of use ranging from finishing to semi-rough turning with average chip cross sections - High level of dimensional stability - Maximum productivity and the shortest possible machining times SL 608 the SiAlON cutting material for high-performance rough turning - For rough turning on larger dimensions and chip cross sections - Even for alloyed cast iron grades and fresh cast iron - Decreased cycle times - High, uniform output, even in difficult working conditions Cutting speed v c (m/min) continuous cut constant..... variable depth of cut interrupted cut slightly highly intermittent cut Chip cross section a p x f (mm 2 ) 2 Tel: Fax: cutting_tools@ceramtec.de

3 Innovative coatings further extend the range of use of the SiAlON grades. They enable you to further increase cutting data and set new standards in machining cast iron grades that are difficult to process such as fresh grey cast iron and ductile cast iron workpieces, thus helping you achieve significant time and cost savings. SL 654 C multilayer TiCN/TiN coated SiAlON - High performance rough turning of fresh grey cast iron - Increase in cutting data and removal rates compared to conventional grades in grey cast iron machining SL 658 C a high-end cutting material for turning ductile cast iron workpieces Rough turning of ductile cast iron: Tool-life quantity achieved by SL 658 C 4-times higher compared to coated carbide - With multi-layer Al 2 O 3 -coating - For high cutting speeds and large chip cross-sections - Maximum cost-effectiveness and productivity in rough machining of ductile cast iron Performance capability in % Carbide coated beta-si N 3 4 coated SL 658 C Ranges of applications and recommended cutting data Grade SL 506 SL 606 SL 508 SL 608 Range of applications Finishing and semi finishing Rough turning in grey cast iron in grey cast iron in continuous cuts to slightly intermittent cuts in continuous to highly intermittent cuts Recommended cutting data v c (m/min) f (mm) 0,15-0,45 0,15-0,5 0,35-1,0 0,35-1,0 a p (mm) 0,5-3,0 0,5-5,0 2,5-5,0 3,0-6,0 Grade SL 654 C SL 658 C WBN 105 Range of applications Recommended cutting data Rough turning Rough turning Rough turning Finish turning in grey cast iron in ductile cast iron in grey cast iron in grey cast iron in a continuous to interrupted cut in continuous cuts and highly intermittent cuts v c (m/min) f (mm) 0,25-0,5 0,25-0,5 0,3-0,6 0,1-0,3 a p (mm) 2,5-5,0 2,0-5,0 2,0-5,0 0,5-2,0 Tel: Fax: cutting_tools@ceramtec.de 3

4 PCBN grade WBN 105 with IKS-PRO The new PCBN cutting material WBN 105 offers the highest cutting speeds in finish turning and rough turning of grey cast iron, improved tool changing cycles and less machine downtime. This makes it perfect for highly productive cutting of grey cast iron materials in mass production with maximum output. The range is available with the IKS-PRO clamping system thereby guaranteeing maximum process reliability in production. WBN 105 The new cutting material grade with high PCBN content - Rough turning of grey cast iron - Finish turning of grey cast iron - In continuous and interrupted cuts - Grooving of grey cast iron - For maximum productivity and output IKS-PRO for the optimum choice of cutting materials The IKS-PRO notch type clamping system guarantees full compatibility of SiAlON and PCBN cutting materials without having to change the toolholder system. This allows the user to ideally match the choice of cutting materials to the existing conditions of the machining task, including the workpiece material and its machinability, batch size and required output per unit of time. This ensures superior production quality and stability of the machining process and maximum cost effectiveness for the overall production process. 4 Tel: Fax: cutting_tools@ceramtec.de
