is the ultimate fast leveling bright nickel electroplating system, specially designed for low thickness deposits, while being unparalleled for high spec nickel plating as well. Existing nickel baths can be easily converted to the system. Bright, leveled deposits in less time Excellent ductility Good chromium reception Very low additive consumption rate PAVCO, Inc John Crosland Jr Drive Charlotte, NC Phone: Toll-free: or PAVCO INC ( ) Fax: Order Fax (for orders only)

These products are to be used only at the recommendation of a Pavco representative. In most instances, Starter and Brightener additions will maintain the bath. : Tank: Anodes: Anode Baskets: Anode Bags: Anode Bars: Filtration: Rectifier: Ventilation: Agitation: Heating: A PVC or Koroseal lined steel tank is required. Electrolytic or sulfur depolarized nickel Titanium baskets are required. Required. Polypropylene, Dynel, 10 to 12 ounce canton flannel or cotton duck. Leach bags before use. Use copper anode bars, preferably shielded with plastic. Continuous filtration through activated carbon. Filtration speed should be at least 1 tank turnover per hour. Up to 12 volts Recommended, check local regulations Air agitation from a low pressure blower or mechanical using a cathode rod agitator. Titanium, tantalum, or Teflon heating coils

3 Maintenance of the Solution: Brightener mls per 1,000 amp - hours Starter mls per 1,000 amp - hours Brightener to Starter Ratio 2 or 3 to 1 New Era Wetter As needed Bath Makeup per 1000 gallons (3785 l): 1. Prepare a lined tank by leaching it with 5% hydrochloric acid for hours. 2. Rinse the tank 3. Fill the lined tank with 500 gallons (2000 liters) of water. 4. Add 2500 pounds (1100 kg) of nickel sulfate and mix well to dissolve. 5. Add 750 pounds (340 kg) of nickel chloride and mix well to dissolve. 6. Add 380 pounds (170 kg) of boric acid and mix well to dissolve. 7. Hang bagged, nickel filled titanium anode baskets in the bath. 8. Add 10 gallons (38 L) of Starter. 9. Add 3 pints of (1.5 L) of Brightener. 10. Add 2 gallons (7.5 L) of New Era Wetter. 11. Adjust the ph to 4 with sulfuric acid. 12. Add water to the 1000 gallon (3785 l) level and mix well. Analysis Procedures: Boric acid: 150 ml beaker 5 ml pipette Dilute sulfuric acid 1N sodium hydroxide Mannitol Procedure Note: Make sure all the boric acid is in solution before proceeding with this analysis. Heat the bath to put all the boric acid in solution. 1. Pipette a 5 ml bath sample into a 150ml beaker and add 20ml of D.I. water. Add a tefloncoated magnetic stir bar and mix solution on stir plate throughout procedure. 2. Using a ph meter, adjust ph of solution to , using either sodium hydroxide or sulfuric acid. Record final ph. 3. Add 2g mannitol. (Excess mannitol is necessary at all times.) 4. Slowly titrate the solution with 1N sodium hydroxide until original ph is reached. oz/gal H 3 BO 3 = [ _ml (NaOH) x N (NaOH) x g/mol H 3 BO 3 ] [ ml sample x 7.5 (g/l)/(oz/gal)]

4 Total Nickel Analysis: 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask 2 ml pipette Concentrated ammonium hydroxide 0.1M EDTA solution Murexide indicator Procedure 1. Pipette a 2 ml sample of nickel plating bath into a 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask. 2. Add approximately 100 mls of de-ionized water. 3. Add 10 mls of concentrated ammonium hydroxide. 4. Add approximately 0.5 grams of Murexide indicator and mix the solution thoroughly. 5. Titrate the solution with 0.1M EDTA until the color changes from green to purple. 6. Record the titration on the appropriate form. Nickel in oz/gal = mls (EDTA) x Standardization factor Nickel Chloride and Nickel Sulfate Analysis: ml Erlenmeyer flask 2. 2 ml pipett Dextrin/Calcium carbonate buffer Dichlorofluorescein indicator 0.153N Silver nitrate solution Procedure for Nickel chloride 1. Pipette a 2 ml sample of nickel plating bath into a 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask. 2. Add approximately 50 mls of de-ionized water. 3. Add one scoop, approximately 2 grams of buffer. 4. Add 1 ml of dichlorofluorescein indicator. 5. Swirl the flask to mix thoroughly. 6. Titrate the solution with 0.153N silver nitrate the color changes from yellowgreen to pink. 7. Record the titration. Nickel chloride in oz/gal = mls (Silver nitrate) x 1.21 Nickel metal in nickel chloride in oz/gal = Nickel chloride in oz/gal x.247 Procedure for Nickel Sulfate 1. Perform a total nickel analysis per the appropriate specification. 2. Calculate the nickel sulfate level as follows: Nickel sulfate in oz/gal = (Total nickel nickel metal in nickel chloride) X 4.48

5 Waste Treatment: Dispose of the concentrates or solutions thereof according to local waste treatment regulations. Safety: Handling Pavco mandates that the following safety equipment be used when handling chemicals in an electroplating environment: safety glasses, face shield, plastic or rubber apron, rubber gloves and safety shoes. Chemicals should only be handled by trained and experienced personnel. Storage Store Pavco products in a clean, well ventilated room which temperature remains above 45 F (7 C). Pavco products should remain in their original container with the lid or cap tightened. Drum pumps or pails must be clean prior to dispensing Pavco products to prevent contamination. If products freeze during shipment or storage, warm the product and mix it well before use. Emergency Procedures Refer to the MSDS for detailed emergency procedures. Eye Contact Seek immediate medical attention. Flush the eyes with water for 15 m minutes. Skin Contact Remove all contaminated clothing. Wash the skin with soap and water. Seek medical attention. Inhalation Remove the person to an area with fresh air. Seek medical attention if necessary. Ingestion Seek immediate medical attention. Spill Dike the area to contain the spill. Refer to the MSDS for clean-up. Notify the proper authorities if required. *Note: Refer to the MSDS for detailed emergency procedures.
