1 Material Safety Data Sheet 1. PRODUCT AND COMPANY IDENTIFICATION PRODUCT NAME: OTHER/GENERIC NAMES: Tetramethylammonium hydroxide, 25% (aqueous solution) Methanaminium, N,N,N-trimethyl, hydroxide PRODUCT USE: MANUFACTURER: Electronics General Chemical Corporation 90 East Halsey Road Parsippany, NJ FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL: (Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:30pm) IN CASE OF EMERGENCY CALL: (24 Hours/Day, 7 Days/Week) COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS INGREDIENT NAME CAS NUMBER WEIGHT % Tetramethylammonium hydroxide Water Trace impurities and additional material names not listed above may appear in Section 15 of this MSDS. These materials may be listed for local "Right-To-Know" compliance and for other reasons. OSHA Hazard Communication Standard: This product is considered hazardous under the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard. 3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: A colorless to yellow liquid with an amine-like odor. Highly corrosive. Causes burns to skin and eyes. May be fatal if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin or eyes. POTENTIAL HEALTH HAZARDS SKIN: EYES: Very corrosive to skin and will cause alkali burns. The severity and extent of damage increases with the length of contact time. May be fatal following dermal exposure. Very corrosive and destructive on contact with eyes causing serious alkali burns. Exposure to a very small amount of mist or spray will cause irritation. Symptoms may include blurred or double vision, pinpoint pupils. May be fatal following eye exposure. INHALATION: Very corrosive to the respiratory tract, causing alkali burns if mist or spray is inhaled. Inhalation of very small amounts of mist or spray will cause irritation. Symptoms may include muscle twitching, tremors or convulsions. The severity and extent of damage increases with the increase in mist or spray exposure and is potentially fatal. MSDS Number: GC-6116 Page 1 of 6

2 INGESTION: Very corrosive and will cause serious alkali burns to the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, esophagus and stomach. Symptoms may include abdominal cramping, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea. May be fatal following ingestion. DELAYED EFFECTS: None known. Ingredients found on one of the three OSHA designated carcinogen lists are listed below. INGREDIENT NAME NTP STATUS IARC STATUS OSHA LIST 4. FIRST AID MEASURES SKIN: EYES: Immediately flush with water with sufficient volume until there is no evidence of the chemical on the affected area. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Get medical attention immediately. Immediately flush with water for at least minutes until no evidence of chemical remains. While flushing, forcibly hold the eyelids apart to ensure flushing of the entire eye surface. Get immediate medical attention. INHALATION: INGESTION: Remove to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration taking care to avoid contact with this product. Get medical attention. Do not induce vomiting. If person is conscious and able to swallow, have victim drink a large volume of water and milk. Get medical attention immediately. ADVICE TO PHYSICIAN: Treat symptomatically. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES FLAMMABLE PROPERTIES FLASH POINT: >200F FLASH POINT METHOD: Closed Cup AUTOIGNITION TEMPERATURE: Not determined UPPER FLAME LIMIT (volume % in air): Not applicable LOWER FLAME LIMIT (volume % in air): Not applicable FLAME PROPAGATION RATE (solids): Not applicable OSHA FLAMMABILITY CLASS: Not flammable EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical or chemical foam. UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PRECAUTIONS/INSTRUCTIONS: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective gear. Do not splash onto skin, eyes or clothing. Do not breathe corrosive mists, sprays or vapors. MSDS Number: GC-6116 Page 2 of 6

3 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES IN CASE OF SPILL OR OTHER RELEASE: (See section 8 for recommended personal protective equipment.) Contain spill. If safety allows, stop flow at the source. Prevent contact with skin and clothing. Avoid routing of material to water bodies or streams. Take up with absorbent material and place in containers for disposal. Spills and releases may have to be reported to Federal and/or local authorities. See Section 15 regarding reporting requirements. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE NORMAL HANDLING: (See section 8 for recommended personal protective equipment.) Do not get into eyes, on skin or on clothing. Do not breathe mist or spray. Wash all contaminated clothing before reuse. Keep the container tightly closed (readily absorbs carbon dioxide from the air). Do not eat or drink while handling. Wash thoroughly after handling. STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Avoid high temperatures. Material should be stored in plastic or stainless steel. Store away from incompatible materials. 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Provide local exhaust. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT SKIN PROTECTION: EYE PROTECTION: RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS: Wear rubber gloves and protective clothing to prevent skin contact. Faceshield and goggles. Mist type respirator if mists are present. Eyewash and safety shower.
