3 Headlamp frame PLASTINUM GIM Gas injection moulding (GIM) GIM relies on high-pressure gas (carbon dioxide or nitrogen) to shape a hollow or channel in a moulded plastic part. Popular in the automotive industry in particular, this process allows manufacturers to produce lighter plastic components with higher dimensional accuracies. We offer a range of highly efficient, dedicated solutions to supply high-pressure gas to GIM processes. Our PLASTINUM GIM portfolio is designed to take process efficiency and quality to the next level.

4 Car handle PLASTINUM GIM I Gas injection moulding with inner cooling technology PLASTINUM GIM I enhances the efficiency of traditional GIM op erations by adding a patented inner cooling process step. Here, high- pressure nitrogen is pushed through the component, accelerat ing cooling cycles by up to 50%. Advanced injector technologies complement our PLASTINUM GIM I solution for even greater process efficiency. PLASTINUM GIM C Gas injection moulding with carbon dioxide PLASTINUM GIM C takes efficiency to the next level by replacing nitrogen with carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). While matching the heat removal capacity and cycle times of water injection moulding, carbon dioxide does not leave any moisture on the products or tools, thus eliminating an additional drying step in the fluid injection cycle. We deve l- oped our PLASTINUM GIM C fluid control units and injectors in close collaboration with our OEM partners.

5 Fridge handle PLASTINUM GIM P Purging of cavities and hoppers PLASTINUM GIM P is an innovative method to purge cavities with an inert gas prior to polymer injection. It enhances quality and productivity by reducing downtime and maintenance effort as a result of dirt caused by oxidation. It does this by supressing the formation of undesirable oxides, which often lead to clogging of injectors and lengthy downtime.

6 PLASTINUM Foam Foaming with carbon dioxide Today, many blowing agents used in the production of foamed polymers such as building insulation (XPS boards) and packaging (high density PE foams) contain a high percentage of carbon dioxide. Exact metering of liquid carbon dioxide (LIC) plays a key role in the quality of the foamed product. Achieving this can be a challenge, however, particularly given counter-pressure variations in polymer extruders. PLASTINUM Foam E Extrusion foaming with carbon dioxide Our PLASTINUM Foam E portfolio was designed specifically to meet the metering challenges of LIC foaming systems. Our patented, proven high-pressure gas supply and metering system DSD 500 responds extremely quickly to changing counter-pressures to keep the mass flow of carbon dioxide constant for uniform, predictable foaming results. PLASTINUM Foam P Solutions for polyurethane foaming Designed specifically for polyurethane foaming processes, our PLASTINUM Foam P solution helps manufacturers ensure consistently high quality standards. Our special supply pumps are engineered to deliver the high volumes of liquid carbon dioxide needed to produce low-density foams used in mattresses for instance. Especially for non-continuous processes, our dedicated metering systems supply liquid carbon dio xide with extremely high accuracy.

7 PLASTINUM Temp For advanced temperature control Areas such as mounting points or reinforcement webs in injection moulded products are not always accessible with standard cooling water channels. As a result, these hot spots are barely cooled and require longer times to cool down, slowing down the entire process flow. We have developed a range of sophisticated PLASTINUM temperature control solutions to access these areas and ensure uniform, accelerated cooling. PLASTINUM Temp S Spot cooling for injection moulds Our patented PLASTINUM Temp S solution uses liquid carbon dioxide (LIC) as an effective cooling medium for hot spots. Using the su perior cooling power of carbon dioxide as it expands, PLASTINUM Temp S reduces cycle times by up to 50%. Comprising control devices, distributors and capillary tubes, our spot cooling package can be easily retrofitted to existing installations. PLASTINUM Temp D Dynamic injection moulding with carbon dioxide Our PLASTINUM Temp D solution increases the efficiency of dynamic injection moulding by using carbon dioxide as a heat carrier. This allows manufacturers to install both the mould heating and cool ing systems in close proximity to the mould surface and thus minimise cycle times. For cooling, LIC is supplied from cylinders or bulk tanks and expands in a system of tiny channels provided with mould inserts. For heating, hot gaseous carbon dioxide is pushed through the same channels in a closed cycle. This compact design translates into added cost and environmental benefits.
