4 DATA SHEET KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS 6 sizes with multiple possible combinations With integrated flap or without flap Test for tightness of filter mounting and pressure drop measurement can be done from the room Low structure heights Easily removable air diffusers Smooth maintenance and disinfection KS extensions for clean rooms are air diffusers with integrated absolute filters to filter and distribute the air. The separation of bacteria, viruses and dust particles takes place immediately before the air enters the room. Thus, the risks and disadvantages of the central filtration system are eliminated. KS extensions for clean rooms with swirl diffusers APPLICATION Fields of application KS extensions for clean rooms are used in all places with strict requirements regarding clean air and low amount of germs in the air supply, such as: hospitals (conventional operation theatre areas and side rooms of operating theatres, intensive care units, sterile zones, isolation areas, etc.) industry (pharmaceutical, food, electronic, optical, chemical) The KS extension for clean rooms shall not be used in explosive environments laboratories (clean zones and work areas, filtration of toxic aerosols from outgoing air)

KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS DATA SHEET 5 DESIGN The housing of KS extension for clean rooms is made of sheet steel and is powder coated in white, RAL For safe and simple mounting of the absolute filter, all the necessary parts are made of corrosion-resistant materials or materials protected from corrosion. The air is supplied through round connecting mouths into which it is possible to mount air-tight shutting flaps. Perforated plates fixed with 4 corner screws or almost all common swirl diffusers and diffusers can be used as air distribution elements. The standard colour for air distribution elements is white (RAL 9010). Testing device for tightness of mounting Every housing is fitted with a connection for pressure measurement and a connection for a test groove that are accessible from the room after removing the air distribution element. The tightness of filter mounting can be easily tested by a testing device for tightness of mounting. INSTALLATION KS extensions for clean rooms can be installed into all common ceiling systems. Make sure to follow the directions in the separate instructions for installation and maintenance. In case of KS extensions for clean rooms with diffusers or swirl diffusers, it is necessary to ensure a sufficient distance from walls, pillars and adjacent KS extensions for clean rooms. KS extension for clean rooms with swirl diffuser COMBINATION OF KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS KS extensions for clean rooms with perforated plates can be combined as needed into larger discharge groups, i.e. they can be mounted adjacent to each other. If more types of KS extensions for clean rooms with different parameters are combined, their operational volume flow rates must be adjusted accordingly (e.g. volume flow rate regulation). 21 KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS DATA SHEET 21 AIR FLOW RANGE The speed of air distributed through piping with circular section to the air diffuser of the tested sample drops due to a sudden enlargement; the diffuser casing functions as an expansion area from which air should flow regularly through outlet openings even though the direction of the air flow changes by 90. The air flow has its core that disappears in the distance Lo and then air flows freely to the working area. On sides of the flow, there is induction of the input air with the air in the ventilated area; the air flow velocity is slower here than in the middle part of the flow (in the distance H1). Air flow range H1 (m): distance between the ceiling and the stay zone B (m): distance between two extensions Q (m 3 /h): air flow L 0 (m): air flow core Bx (m): missing Q B H 1 L 0 Bx

42 DATA SHEET KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS 1.3. Assembly of the KS extension for clean rooms box Warning hang the diffuser in a plane. It is necessary to avoid its deformation, otherwise the filter will not be tight. Fix mounting elements (1) in the ceiling, e.g. threaded rods M. Hang the diffuser box in three points, adjust it using nuts (2) and secure by tightening counter-nuts (3). Now, put on and screw the remaining nuts (4+5) without moving the box. Check mounting of the frame. (no deformation) Fig. 3 Assembly of the KS extensions for clean rooms box 1.4. Filter installation Before installing the filter, let the ventilation system, including the mounted empty box, run for at least 24 hours. b Warning Do not touch surface of the filter. The filter may be held only by its frame (A). 4 Unpack the filter. Check the filter surface for any mechanical damage. If the surface of the filter is damaged, use another filter. Clean sealing surfaces (2). Push the filter (1) with the flat sealing side upwards into the diffuser box (3) until flexible clips (4) click (D). Mount only two mounting angles (5) for fixing of the filter (C). Mount the mounting bracket* (6) (D) and the cross-bar (if any). Mount the other two mounting angles (5) for fixing of the filter and the mounting bracket*. Tighten gently and evenly all the mounting screws (7), until the filter (1) is in position. Turn all mounting screws by 10 degrees more (for the sealing tension). *) Only for diffuser and swirl diffuser Fig. 4 Filter installation A d C 5 6* 7

KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS DATA SHEET TESTS OF OPERATION Leakage test When the filter is installed correctly, it is tight even in the testing groove. Connect the connecting hose (1) to the test apparatus and the testing groove connector (3). Fill the air tank (4) using a hand pump. Empty the air tank by pressing shortly the button (5). The flow rate meter (6) shows air leakage in cm 3 /min. Align the air leakage with the permissible value shown in the table (see Operating Instructions of the test apparatus). In case of insufficient tightness: Tighten the four corner screws (7) by 10 degrees (to increase pressure for tightness) and repeat the leakage test. Do not repeat this procedure more than once. If the leakage test is unsatisfactory after two tests (one and a half turn), remove the filter and check if the testing groove and the box sealing are damaged Fig. 5 Leakage test Pressure drop measurement Note: Pressure drop measurement shall be performed with the ventilation system running. Remove the protective cover (1) from the pressure measurement connector. Connect the pressure gauge (3) with a curved tube or a U-shape tube using the hose (2). Note the initial value and compare it with data in the filter technical documentation. If the Δp value is two times bigger than the initial value or if it reaches the maximum permitted pressure difference, install a new filter (the old filter is dirty). Warning Always put back the protective cover (1) after the pressure drop measurement! 1 Fig. 6 Pressure drop measurement 2 3

44 DATA SHEET KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS 3. EXTENSION ASSEMBLY Fix the perforated sheet (1) using 4 plastic nuts (3). Fix the diffuser (2) using the knurled nut located in the centre of the diffuser Fig. 7 Assembling 4 4. MAINTENANCE AND DISPOSAL 4.1 Maintenance Maintenance schedule The interval between replacements of the filter depends on airflow and concentration of particles in non-filtered (dirty) air. The interval shall be determined by regular measurements of pressure drop (at least 4 times a year), depending on operating conditions. Filters are designed for very long periods of use, usually 1 to 2 years, often 2 to 4 year and longer. Cleanliness of the filter is determined indirectly by measuring of pressure drop. The filter shall be replaced at latest: when the pressure drop in a dirty filter is about 2 times bigger than in a new filter when the pressure drop achieves the maximum permissible value of the filter; at latest each 5 years due to hygienic purposes. Performing maintenance To disinfect, measure pressure or test tightness, remove the air distribution element, i.e. perforated sheet metal, grid, diffuser or swirl diffuser. Check of filter cleanliness See Pressure drop measurement, point 2. Filter replacement Warning Filters may be replaced only when the ventilation is off New filters must be brought to the place of replacement in their original packaging. Remove the filters from their original packaging just before their installation. Do not touch the fine filter material when removing filters from their original packaging. Use the filter frame for handling. Check visually each filter for any damage caused by transport. Do not use damaged filters. Replace them by new filters. 4.2 Storage Store filters only in their original packaging turned up. Store filters in a dry room. Do not pile more than four cardboard packagings with filters for storage. 4.3 Disposal Damaged, unused filters may be disposed of like common domestic waste. Warning Dirty filters must be disposed of in compliance with local regulations

KS EXTENSIONS FOR CLEAN ROOMS DATA SHEET 45 BASIC RULES FOR HANDLING HEPA FILTERS Hepa filter may be handled only holding it on the filter frame! Do not touch the filter paper risk of a filter defect! After installation, the sealing shall not be pressed more than by 2 mm.
