First Sample: Lube Time: Not Prov Hrs. Recommendation(s): FILTER LUBRICANT to remove excessive levels of lubricant degradation, in the form of tramp oil (petroleum based product). Discussion of Test Results: The equipment particle concentration (EPC) of 88,764 is much higher than expected for a fluid of this type. Analytical results show the presence of excessive concentration of lubricant degradation in the form of tramp oil (petroleum based product). Lubricant degradation in the form of tramp oil (petroleum based product) not only clogs return ports, valves and filters but will also contribute to the over all poor performance of rotating equipment. Additional the presence of petroleum reduce the fire retardant capabilities of this fluid. Note that this was the FIRST sample tested from this equipment. First Sample: Lube Time: Not Prov Hrs. Recommendation(s): CHECK AIR FILTERS & BREATHER ELEMENTS, where present, to ensure proper working condition. FILTER LUBRICANT to remove excessive levels of lubricant degradation and outside contaminants. Discussion of Test Results: The equipment particle concentration (EPC) of 84,720 is much higher than expected for this type of equipment. Analytical results show the presence of excessive concentration of lubricant degradation in both forms of tramp oil (petroleum based product) and varnish & lacquer. Test results also show the presence eof natural fiber material. This natural fiber material appears to be composed of cellulose (paper) media. Damaged air filter or breather elements are permitting the entry of outside (sand & dirt) contamination into this system. Recommendation(s): FILTER LUBRICANT to remove excessive levels of lubricant degradation and Metal Oxides. Then continue regular operation. Sample this equipment at a routine time interval. Discussion of Test Results: The equipment particle concentration (EPC) of 20,030 is much higher than expected for this type of equipment. Analytical results show the presence of excessive concentration of lubricant degradation in both forms of tramp oil (petroleum based product) and varnish & lacquer. Testing also show the presence of Black Metal Oxides (Fe 3 O 4 ). Black Oxides form as the result of heat due to friction from improper or inadequate lubrication during the formation of the particles. Lubricant degradation in the form of tramp oil (petroleum based product) not only clogs return ports, valves and filters but will also contribute to the over all poor performance of this equipment. Additional the presence of petroleum reduce the fire retardant capabilities of this fluid. Note that this was the FIRST sample tested from this equipment. Then continue regular operation. Sample this equipment at a routine time interval. Discussion of Test Results: The equipment particle concentration (EPC) of 17,879 is much higher than expected for this type of equipment. Analytical results show the presence of excessive concentration of lubricant degradation in both forms of tramp oil (petroleum based product) and varnish & lacquer. Additionally test results show the presence of Black Metal Oxides (Fe 3 O 4 ) and outside contaminants (sand & dirt). Many of these contaminants are much greater than 10 micrometer (um) indicating the oil filter is in by-pass.
