3 Umicore s nano zinc oxide umicore SEI 15.0kV X75, nm WD 8.3mm Umicore has always pioneered new high tech solutions for its customers. ZANO is one of the latest solutions provided by Umicore. ZANO is a very homogeneous nano zinc oxide with a narrow particle size distribution, produced through Umicore s unique technology for nano materials. ZANO offers a very effective protection against the sun s harmful Ultra-Violet rays. Its UV-B/UV-A protection spectrum is much broader than that of the classical UV absorbers. Its narrow particle size distribution and small particle size lead to an excellent transparency in the different applications. Besides its combined UV-properties and transparency, ZANO exhibits the general properties of zinc oxide with its anti-bacterial and fungistat properties, its GRAS (generally regarded as safe) listing by the FDA in polymers, fibers, plastics and adhesives and the fact that it does not cause allergic reactions upon skin contact. Umicore does not only supply customers with industrial scale volumes of nano zinc oxide, but also supports customers with advice on material handling, quality control and characterization methods. 4 a broad range of applications Several ZANO qualities have been tailored depending on the application: ZANO 10 effectively protects the skin against the harmful rays of the sun in a broad range of cosmetic applications (sunscreens, daily skincare and hair-care applications, moisturizers, lip products, baby products). ZANO 20 offers long lasting broad spectrum UV-B/UV-A protection in transparent plastics and plastic films, as well as in textile applications. ZANO 30 is developed for clear coatings (wood coatings, floor coatings, lacquers, stains). Its exceptional incorporation in the clear coatings matrix brings about a unique long-lasting UV protection. Other applications include electronics, adhesives, inks, ceramics.
