2 THERMOPLASTIC SYNTACTIC FOAM PLUG ASSIST MATERIALS Thermoplastic Syntactic Foam Material Thermoplastic Syntactic Foam is one of the toughest materials available for thermoforming plug assists on the market today. More easily machinable and able to withstand the harshest thermoforming environments, thermoplastic plugs can help produce the most intricate designs with dazzling clarity. The exceptional properties of this material will allow thermoformers to run their machines faster and hotter than ever before, cutting cycle times and increasing productivity. Machining of this product is practically dust-free. The ease of machinability allows it to be readily tapped for threaded inserts. Our thermosplastic plug material is proven to withstand the most severe operational environments, while providing tough, long-lasting plugs that will need to be replaced less often. Unlike regular syntactic foam, the thermoplastic material is non-toxic and no dust particles are produced during machining. No special ventilation, personal hygiene or flammability precautions are necessary. Thermoplastic Syntactic Foam Rods Dia. 3 FormPlast 2000 Formplast 2000 Formplast 2000 is a thermoplastic composite material with properties, that make it excellent for use in lowtemperature thermoforming plug assist applications. Formplast 2000 provides superior toughness and impact resistance that reduces chipping, cracking or breaking in mid-process. Reduce downtime caused by repairing and replacing cracked, chipped or broken plugs. Once machined, a Formplast 2000 plug assist will not become porous. Formplast plug assists require no filing, sanding or other costly maintenance. Chemical-resistant Formplast will hold its clean blue color where syntactic foam tends to discolor almost immediately. Unlike syntactic foam, Formplast 2000 is non-toxic and no dust particles are produced during machining. No special ventilation, personal hygiene or flammatory precautions are necessary when handling Foamplast Formplast 2000 delivers processing benefits: Even sheet distribution Prevents plug sticking Unrivaled strength Proven durability Excellent thermal properties Machines freely with standard tooling Ideal for plug assisting Polyolefin plastics Formplast 2000 is available in rods and sheets. 4 SyntaCTIC FOAM Casting Compound Liquid Syntactic Foam Casting Compound Specially designed for casting thermoforming plugsespecially those with difficult geometrics. Our Casting Compound begins as a thick, viscous liquid, but after curing, the casting is a rigid, high-strength composite of epoxy resin and hollow glass microspheres. Syntactic Casting Compound is formulated with its own pre-blended hardening agent. Hardening of the Casting Compound is held in check by refrigeration. The material is stocked and frozen at 30 F at our facility. It is shipped via next-day or second-day express, taking a maximum of two days to reach our customers. When it arrives, it should be refrigerated or stored frozen, if not immediately used that day. The epoxy starts to react at room temperature, taking several days to harden. When heated above 150 F to 300 F, the liquid will harden in hours. 5 SYNTACTIC FOAM PLUG ASSIST MATERIALS Syntactic Foam Syntactic Foam is a composite tooling material used in the thermoforming industry. This rigid, high-strength composite of epoxy resin and hollow glass microspheres maintains its hardness right up to its specified maximum running temperature and exhibits excellent abrasion resistance. Available in block, sheet and rod form, Syntactic Foam is easily machined using standard shop tools and offers a lightweight, durable, and cost effective alternative to wood, felt, aluminum and Delrin. Syntactic Foam plug material is engineered to address problems related to traditional thermoforming tooling such as sticking, deformation and failure. Syntactic Foam plugs exhibit extremely low thermal conductivity, so they do not draw heat away from the plastic sheet, virtually eliminating the primary cause of plug sticking or fouling. Syntactic Foam plugs are quick and easy to replace and are repairable if subject to minor damage. Requiring very little warm-up time, Syntactic Foam plugs are dimensionally stable, exceptionally durable and are ideally suited to a wide range of inline, sheet-fed thermoforming applications such as component manufacture within the food and medical packaging, aerospace, and automotive sectors. The materials versatility also makes it ideal for prototype tooling in many other plastic processes. 350 and 450 Syntactic Foam Rod SIZE CATALOG # Dia.
