2 TEMA - Siebtechnik Centrifuges for continuous and mechanica separation of soids from iquids In neary a cases of mechanica iquid/soids separation, continuousy operating centrifuges are the best technica and economica proposition. They can dewater arge quantities of soids to ow fina moistures, whist needing itte space, energy and time. The correct centrifuge wi reduce the cost of therma drying consideraby and may even make it superfuous. SIEBTECHNIK speciaise in the deveopment and manufacture of continuousy operating centrifuges. CONTURBEX worm/screen centrifuge The most versatie of our continuousy operating centrifuges are worm/screen centrifuges in which the soids retained on the sieve are transported from the sma to the arge diameter through the ange of incination of the basket and the sighty different speed of the scraper worm. With an ange of incination of the basket adapted to the feed materia, widey different products such as short fibre cotton inters, ice crystas from freeze concentration or granuar pastics, but especiay sat crystas of diverse origin and consistency are successfuy separaten from the mother iquor and, where necessary, purified by washing. Depending on the operationa conditions, the screen basket is provided with perforated sheets or sot sieves. Pusher Centrifuge Pusher centrifuges are very robust, continuousy operating machines, which in doubestep execution offer highy reiabe operation. The soids are retained, as a cake, by a wedge wire basket and pushing motions in axia direction convey them to the discharge point. These centrifuges are empoyed when considerabe wear can be expected and where an extremey ow oss of soids in the fitrate and good washing are required. TURBO-CASCADE Siding Discharge Centrifuge The TURBO-CASCADE isa specia centrifuge which was deveoped for the dewatering of soids with a uniform partice size down to about 0.5 mm. The granues side individuay, not as a compact ayer, over stepwise arranged screen segments. Baffe pates which rotate with the basket prevent them from jumping to another segment. In spite of the very short retention time of each individua partice in the centrifuge, fina moistures down to 0.01 % are being attained. Vibratory Centrifuge The highest throughputs, up to 350t/h of soids, are attained with vibratory centrifuges in which the soids, which are retained by the sieve, are transported from the sma to the arge diameter by axia vibrations which exceed the rotary movement. Since this conveying mechanism fais at high centrifuga forces, vibratory centrifuges are in the first pace suitabe for processing mass products which can easiy be dewatered to a reativey good fina moisture. Decanter Centrifuge Decanter Centrifuges are used to separate very fine soids from iquids of ighter density. The soids form a sediment in the iquid, but are not retained by a screen as in a screening centrifuge. The speed of sedimentation can be increased by adding foccuents. In the soid bow centrifuge the sedimented soids are transported by the scro to the smaer diameter and discharged, whie the cear iquid fows over the adjustabe weir at the cyindrica end of the machine. The screen decanter is a combination of a decanter and a screen centrifuge, which has a screen section to further reduce the fina moisture. Materia passing through the screen section can be recyced to the centrifuge feed. 2

4 Worm/Screen Centrifuge CONTURBEX Description The construction and working method of the Conturbex Worm/Screen Centrifuge is shown in the cross sectiona drawing. Drive unit, bearings, rotating parts in the iquids chamber and the soids discharge are ceary visibe and easiy accessibe for maintenance. The drive is by vee-bets and the speed of the rotating parts is chosen to sut the process requirements. A cyco gear unit ensures the necessary differentia speed between worm and basket, even with a high friction between the two. An overoad protection system prevents damage to the cyco gear unit. Gearbox and bearings have a pressurised ubrication system, with the exception of the H 200 which has a oi fied gearbox. Machine and drive motor are mounted on a base frame provided with rubber feet which can be boted to the support construction. Even our argest centrifuge can be instaed without specia foundations or baancing weights. The reative movement of the worm, ensures even distribution of the soids on the screen, thus preventing undue vibration. No potentiay unbaancing soids remain in the worm when the machine is stopped. Materias of Construction The contact parts are made from Austenitic Stee, specia Bronze, Hasteoy, Nicke, Titanium or simiar depending on the appication. With abrasive materias, the vunerabe zones are protected by abrasion resistant materias. 5 The rotating parts For the Conturbex Worm/Screen Centrifuge these are either cyindrica or conica with 20 or 10 incinations. The worm which rotates with a differentia speed determines the transport speed and the retention time of the soids on the screen. With conica rotating parts the movement of the soids is heped by the incination. This ange is determined by the manufacturer and infuenced by the process requirements. Ange of incination 20 This standard execution has proved exceent with most products and probems. The soids side from the smaer to the arger diameter aided by the increasing centrifuga force, but without significant push from the worm. Ange of incination 10 This ange is preferred when intensive washing on the screen is necessary. Cyindrica execution Specia execution for purposes such as dewatering of ice crystas and ceuose derivatives.
