2 MARMON Aerospace & Defense Tin Coated Copper Discussion MARMON Aerospace & Defense is committed to supplying the very best wire and cable for the aerospace industry. We have many approvals and work with all military OEM's who use XLETFE products. We are not resting on what our current capabilities and materials are, but continue to continuously improve all aspects of our company. Tin coated copper discoloration has been and continues to be a source of perceived quality issue with our XLETFE wire and cable.. This presentation is meant to answer the questions, is this a known and understood characteristic, why the discoloration, is it an issue, is it unique to Marmon Aerospace & Defense product.

3 MARMON Aerospace & Defense Is discoloration of tin normal and known? NEMA - Wire and cable industry put a paper out to clarify what is happening and should be expected. TYCO (TE) has put out a paper to address this IPC published document about the affect of time on tin. Fisk Alloy Conductor manufacture put out a paper on the issue. Bottom line is the change in color and solderability of tin copper conductors, has been highly published and studied because up to this point there is no known way to stop it from occuring, and it is important to make certain it is understood to be a termination issue and nothing more.

6 MARMON AEROSPACE & DEFENSE Is it a Performance issue? Industry recognizes it exist and continues to use it. 1. The only know negative performance issue is loss of solder-ability. 2. Boeing performed study on competitors materials with darkening tin and dark spots and determined material acceptable to use. 3. There is no significant loss of conductivity 4. There is no loss of tensile strength 5. There is no sign of a corrosion which would continue. Blackening is only present on the surface.

Tin discoloration and loss of solderability is a known charateristic All conductor manufactures, and insulators know this problem exist and have had to deal with this issue. (NEMA, FISK, TE) Most OEM users understand this characteristic of tin copper. Although it takes explanations every so often.

Audit bare wire suppliers plating quality beyond the mil-spec Use FIFO practices for all raw, WIP, finished good material Silver saver paper for all silver plated copper products No water troughs for XLETFE extrusion air cooled All wire and cable ends sealed for tin, silver, and nickel plated products Silver plated copper products are put in bags with desiccant Warning labels on product reels warning of maintaining packaging and good storage conditions Train distribution partner on the importance of packaging, storage conditions, and FIFO practices

9 MARMON AEROSPACE & DEFENSE What does Marmon do and what we recommend to the supply chain? More recent changes and recommendations Increased Tin Plating to extend plating life. Reduced the Fluoride levels in the XLETFE material Looking for more ways to reduce the heat exposure of the conductors Recommending end users use FIFO process Recommend end users work with MARMON and Partners (RAY-Q) to make sure materials do not sit in inventory for long periods (Years) Recommend Partners and end users store materials properly and reseal ends after cutting, and keep exposed braids covered. Exposure to secondary heat processes will increase oxidation and inter-metallic formation. Be careful of exposure to heat such as printing or striping.
