2 10 Foreign Trade EXPORTS Ores & Minerals During the year , the value of exports (including re-exports) of ores and minerals at 175,310 crore accounted for 11.96% of the total value of all merchandise exported from India. The export value rose from 127,831crore in to 174,370 crore in and further rose to 175,310 crore in The value of mineral exports showed an increase of 0.54% in as compared to that in the previous year. Diamond (total) continued to be the largest constituent item with a share of 76.57% in the total value of mineral exports in Next in order of share were iron ore with the contribution of % followed by granite 3. 64%. The individual share of remaining minerals in the total value of exports of ores and minerals from India during the year under review was less than 1%. The value of exports showed a mixed trend for most of the minerals in as compared to that in the previous year. The exports of petroleum (crude) and precious metals, ore & concentrates during increased manifold as compared to previous year while that of diatomite, zirconium ores & concentrates increased by more than four times, limestone & bauxite by more than three times, while export value of titanium ores & concentrates and garnet (abrasive) by more than doubled. The exports of other minerals which have shown significant growth are sand (excluding metal bearing) 81.40%, barytes 71.83%, chromite 70.88%, sulphur (excluding sublimed precipited & colloidal) 70.67%, emerald (cut & uncut) and bentonite 50% each, building and monumental stones NES 44.60%, wollastonite 42.28%, kaolin 37.59%, mica and felspar (natural) 28.00% each, salt (other than common salt) and quartz & quartzite 25 percent each. The minerals which have shown negative growth in value of exports during are lead ores & conc %, alumina 60.74%, abrasive (natural) 57.58%, coal (excluding lignite) 49.05% and manganese ore by percent. Ores and minerals were exported to 188 countries in as against 188 countries in (including country item unspecified in both the years). Ninety percent of the total value of exports of ores and minerals was confined to only nine countries. Out of these, exports to only two countries accounted for more than doubled of the total value of exports during the year. During the year under review, Hong Kong occupied the top position in and in terms of value accounted for 24.86% of the total mineral exports. UAE was in the second place and contributed 17.45% followed by USA 14.83%, China 14.11%, Belgium 9.54%, Israel 4%, Japan 1.95%, Unspecified 1.89%, and Thailand 1.65 percent. The individual share of remaining countries was less than one percent. Countrywise analysis of mineral exports revealed that, exports of minerals has increased significantly to Switzerland and Vietnam. The increase in value of mineral exports was also significant for Bangladesh 95.62%, Kuwait 75.16%, Singapore 74.18%, Belgium 73.87%, France 72.12%, South Africa 68.06%, Lebanon 67.01%,UK 62.87%, Thailand 60.74%, Israel 58.82%, Saudi Arabia 58.46%, Nepal and Pakistan 57% each, Russia and Japan 54.00% each and Poland percent as compared to previous year. However, value of export of ores & minerals declined by 77.01% for Baharain 36.41% for UAE 30.10%, for Iran 13.48% for Spain and 12.76% for Turkey as as compared to that of previous year (Tables - 1 to 3). 10-2
