Efficient generation management and operation management Siemens Spectrum PowerCC for power generators Answers for energy.

Highest returns with precise power generation management Energy markets may well be in a phase of change. However, the basic demand on a fleet of power plants remains unchanged, and that is efficient power generation. For this reason it is important to be able to plan power plant operations in advance and to control them precisely, based on the most exact data possible. Only then can demanding ROI objectives be reached while guaranteeing that entire power plant fleets are operated in the most environmentally friendly manner possible. Siemens Spectrum PowerCC delivers the right answers to these challenges with a totally integrated generation management system from a single source. This system has already proven its reliability in numerous projects and is open for future developments. Discover on the following pages how Spectrum PowerCC provides support in ensuring that all relevant resources are utilized optimally, and that all processes from long-term power plant operation planning to energy trading yield high returns. Safe, highly available, and open Spectrum PowerCC supports a broad spectrum of protocols. It can, therefore, be installed in a broad range of environments to successfully provide secure and highly available communication. By connecting protective devices directly via IEC 61850, a consistent configuration with minimal parameterization effort becomes possible. An ICCP interface forms the basis of standardized communication with other control stations or for a hierarchically structured control network. In addition, industry and building automation can be connected effortlessly, for instance via OPC. The description of the electrical networks is carried out according to IEC 61970. This ensures that once model data have been entered within Siemens Spectrum PowerCC, these can also be used by other systems. 2

Future-proof and flexible The standardized CIM data model, the open system architecture with numerous interfaces, and the modular system design ensure a high degree of future safety and investment security. In addition, thanks to its service-oriented architecture (SOA), Spectrum PowerCC can be integrated easily into existing IT infrastructures. A further important contribution to future safety is that it has been designed in full compliance with the IEC 61850 communication standard. This forms the basis upon which power plants can be seamlessly embedded into the communication structure of Smart Grids. Winning performance Spectrum PowerCC supports power plant operators in a broad range of business processes Expansion planning based on longterm simulations Long-term operations planning, especially for drafting key energy contracts Economically optimized maintenance planning High-quality forecasts Hydrothermal power plant operation planning Optimum trade planning and decisionmaking support Automatic control of power generation Economical load dispatch within a power plant fleet and monitoring of reserves Production cost monitoring Process management through the SCADA system Your advantages at a glance Spectrum PowerCC is proven as an integrated generation management system and provides a broad range of convincing advantages: Minimization of operation costs and maximization of returns due to operation planning and intelligent power plant management More efficient operation of all necessary resources Highest planning safety Optimum protection against knowledge loss Support of operational personnel in planning and operation Compliance with environmental guidelines and climate protection targets Openness and future safety 5

Broad range of functions The numerous Spectrum PowerCC modules provide optimum support for every application. The power plant operation and resource optimization applications with specially developed algorithms simplify a broad range of long-term, mid-term, and short-term planning tasks. They also ensure that exact results are achieved. Forecast applications enable load curves to be predicted for various types of energy as well as load pre dictions for the entire system and for single fields of prognosis. Spectrum PowerCC offers a broad range of functions for power plant management, as there are frequency control, economical dispatch, and reserve monitoring. Intuitive user interface, simple navigation The Spectrum PowerCC user interface is based on Microsoft Windows. Seamless integration in Windows systems and its typical navigation design ensure that using the entire system is highly intuitive. A freely configurable menu list, along with the support of multimonitor systems and large projection capability, further simplify work and ensure quick and faultless operation. SCADA a reliable basis Spectrum PowerCC provides safe, reliable, and precise measuring, signaling, and monitoring, and allows direct access to all field devices. Comprehensive processing of alarms ensures that the user is informed of critical situations immediately, in case of limit violations or alarms, for example. More significant alarms can also be communicated to external telephones by SMS or voice message. High-performance archiving To fulfill all documentation requirements and in order to enable future analyses, all acquired data can be archived in a high-capacity archive system. Precalculation and saving of frequently used aggregations shorten access time. In addition, planned schedules and actual schedules, offers, case studies, and SCADA data can be archived. Analog data can be compressed at predefined rates. Standardized interfaces, as well as various calculation and aggregation algorithms, are available for further data processing. 3

Precise and expedient engineering for entering all required data The open, modular structure of Spectrum PowerCC enables seamless integration into existing IT landscapes. The system can also be expanded on an ongoing basis to include additional functions as required. Full compliance with international standards such as IEC 61850, IEC 61970, XML, or ODBC ensure future safety in every conceivable respect. The distinctive features of Spectrum PowerCC are its single source for all data entry and engineering data updates, and the possibility to fully edit all network data graphically. The object-oriented editor with its fully Web-based user interface uses an object model according to the Common Information Model (CIM) with expansions for the support of all generation management functions. Moreover, the data models are preserved when the software is updated, and data models from other sources can also be integrated. Comprehensive IT security Hardware redundancy ensures maximum security. This is why all critical processes run in parallel on two servers and are monitored continuously with Spectrum PowerCC. Redundant channels with automatic switching can also be used for communication. Specific tests, which are carried out at regular intervals, guarantee the highest possible degree of IT security and availability and ensure that Spectrum PowerCC is well protected from external attacks.
