CONSTRUCTION DEWATERING REQUIREMENTS FOR GROUNDWATER: THE SLUDGE DRYING BEDS ARE THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE AREA FOR DISCHARGE OF CONSTRUCTION RELATED TO GROUNDWATER 1. CONTRACTOR MAY STORE GROUNDWATER IN THE SLUDGE DRYING BED. 2. CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL AN ISOLATION PLUG VALVE IN THE EXISTING PIPE MANIFOLD THAT COLLECTS WATER FROM PERFORATED PIPE. SEE PAGE 2 OF 2 OF THIS APPENDIX. 3. PERCOLATION OF COLLECTED GROUNDWATER IS ACCEPTABLE. DISCHARGE FROM SLUDGE DRYING BEDS HEADWORKS SLUDGE DRYING BEDS: BED BOTTOM ELEVATION=1019 FT TOTAL AREA OF ONE (1) DRYING BED=10,000 (SF) VOLUME CAPACITY OF ONE (1) DRYING BED = 50,000 CU.FT. TREATMENT FACILITY AND PIPING PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR FILTER BACKWASH PUMP STATION, TOP OF WETWELL ELEV. 1022 FT 1. REFER TO SECTION 02222 FOR GROUNDWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS. 2. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE PROTECTION FOR THE ABOVE GRADE TREATMENT PIPING CROSS ROAD WAYS. 4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SAMPLE AND TEST GROUNDWATER FOR MANGANESE, TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS (TDS), IRON, AND CHLORIDE. 5. IF WATER QUALITY CRITERIA PROVIDED IN SECTION 02222 ARE EXCEEDED, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE APPROPRIATE TREATMENT TO REDUCE CONTAMINANTS BEFORE DISCHARGING INTO FILTER BACKWASH PUMP STATION WETWELL.
