REPORTS PRELIMINARY BRIDGE INSPECTION SUMMIT COUNTY ENGINEERS OFFICE

BRIDGES - Robert A. Hochevar, P.E. - SUMMIT COUNTY ENGINEERS 1. South of Lower Lake Due to the significant deterioration and undermining of the pier (center support), I recommend this bridge be closed immediately to all traffic pedestrian and vehicle. 2. At Lower Lake Inlet The water depth prevented observation of the abutments and pier on this bridge. I recommend this bridge be open only to pedestrians until the abutments and piers can be inspected closely to determine the condition and the extent of any undermining that may exist. 3. At Upper Lake Inlet The condition of this bridge appears satisfactory. It is my opinion that this bridge can remain open to pedestrians and light vehicle traffic (cars and pick-up trucks) at this time until a more in-depth inspection and evaluation can be made by a professional engineer, assuming this will occur within the next three months #3 UPPER LAKE #2 LOWER LAKE #1

HISTORY The Lower Lake Dam was constructed in 1920 and a portion of the original design of this reservoir, originally named Lake Jinelle, was patented by James B. Kirby on May 3, 1921. Patent number 1,376,889 was for multi-level intake dams at the upstream end of artificial lakes at tributaries to reduce the amount of sediment that would foul the lake.
