Overview IBM System Storage V2, Release 2, software is now available including 2-year, 4-year, and 5-year Software Maintenance registration agreements. These three additional maintenance options can be ordered only at initial order and cannot be used to renew or reinstate an existing or expired maintenance agreement. The IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway solution, comprised of IBM System Storage (EE) V2 software and the IBM System Storage TS7650G De-duplication Server (3958-DD3) hardware, is designed to address the disk-based data protection needs of enterprise data centers. The TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway solution has also been modified to support preloading the ProtecTIER software on the Gateway hardware. Appropriate s have been added to ProtecTIER EE V2 for preloading. ProtecTIER EE V2 has been enhanced to emulate TS3500 tape libraries and Ultrium 3 tape drives. Key prerequisites IBM System Storage V2 software requires the IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway (3958-DD3) hardware. Planned availability date March 6, 2009 Description Release 2 of IBM System Storage V2 enhances the functionality of release 1 by adding support for virtual TS3500 tape libraries with virtual Ultrium 2 or Ultrium 3 tape drives. Additionally, IBM's path failover functionality may be used with virtual TS3500 tape libraries. Path failover may be used to help enhance availability. This function is designed to provide automatic control path failover to a preconfigured redundant control path in the event of a loss of a host adapter or control path drive, without aborting the current job in progress. Support is provided under various operating systems such as AIX, Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, and Windows for Fibre Channel attachments when the IBM device driver is used. Data path failover supports virtual Ultrium Tape Drives in the TS3500 virtual tape library using the IBM device driver for AIX, Linux, Windows, Solaris, and HP-UX. Data path failover is designed to provide a failover mechanism in the IBM device driver to enable configuration of multiple redundant paths in a SAN environment. In the event of a path or component failure, the failover mechanism is designed to automatically provide error recovery to retry the current operation using an alternate, preconfigured path without aborting the current job in progress. This provides flexibility in SAN configuration, availability, and management. ProtecTIER only supports control path failover or data path failover with virtual TS3500 tape libraries. Three additional software maintenance options have been defined for 2-year, 4-year, and 5-year Software Maintenance registration agreements. These options can be ordered only at initial order and cannot be used to renew or reinstate an existing or expired maintenance agreement. The existing 1-year and 3-year software maintenance options for ProtecTIER EE remain available. Additional hardware, defined in the announcement for IBM System Storage TS7650G Server (3958-DD3) (Hardware Announcement 109-087, dated February 10, 2009) is required to complete the TS7650G de-duplication solution. Management console IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway must have a console in order to perform system installation and maintenance. One console (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) is required for each server. If multiple ProtecTIER servers need to be accessed, they can be connected to a console via a switch box or via a terminal server. You must place the console hardware order separately from the TS7650G solution order. The console must be capable of operating one of the following operating systems: Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 Red Hat Enterprise 4, or later The console must also have: At least 100 MB of available disk space At least 256 MB of RAM The console must have access to the ProtecTIER service nodes at IP address (port 3501 is open on the firewall). Confer with your IBM representative for console configuration alternatives. Software requirements Operating system prerequisites The appropriate Linux operating system is included with the IBM System Storage V2 software and is loaded on the TS7650G Gateway with your initial order. Connectivity prerequisites The supported Fiber Channel switches are listed in the System Storage Operation Center (SSIC) at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/config/ssic/ If this IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway engine is to be accessed via ProtecTIER Manager installed on another computer, network connections must be configured to allow access. The IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway front end links will be up only after configuring a repository. File system prerequisites The IBM System Storage TS7650G ProtecTIER De-duplication Gateway stores data in Red Hat Global File Systems (GFS). The and size of the file systems depend on the size and parameters of your configured repository. Tivoli Storage Manager and other compatible software offerings can provide storage and tape management software for the TS7650G. Supporting software and applications must be obtained separately from IBM, IBM Business Partners, or ISVs. A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user or client devices. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each server regardless of the of processor cores or partitions in the server on which the program runs or each server managed by the program. IBM System Storage V2 -- New orders Single server configurations Order one V2 use authorization for each ProtecTIER TS7650G (IBM 3958 Model DD1 or DD3) server configured. Order basic capacity authorizations corresponding to the total terabytes (TB) managed by each ProtecTIER server. Terebyte capacity ordering is by cumulative tier. Starting with tier 1 (1-12 TB), order the quantity from each successive tier required to reach the total TB managed by the server, filling each tier in succession. The tier 6 per TB 251+ is limited to a quantity of 250. If the total capacity managed by the ProtecTIER server is 500 TB or less, order the authorizations above 250 TB using the tier 6 per TB 251+, to reach the required total. If the total capacity managed by the server is greater than 500 TB but less than 750 TB on a new order, order the per 250 TB 251+ tier 6, with an additional quantity of per TB 251+ s (up to 250), to meet the required total of managed TB authorizations. For total managed capacity at or above 750 TB and below 1000 TB in a new order, order quantity 2 of the per 250 TB, 251+, to reach the required range before using the tier 6 per TB 251+ s to reach the exact total. Clustered server orders Order optional cluster authorization (in addition to capacity authorizations) corresponding to the total storage capacity managed by ProtecTIER clustered servers at the site. Cluster orders require quantity 2 V2 (per server) use authorization s for each cluster. Order basic capacity authorizations for the total storage managed by the cluster (commonly configured for both servers in the cluster). In addition, order cluster capacity authorizations in the same amount as base capacity authorizations. Note: Cluster support requires cluster enablement on the corresponding TS7650G (IBM3958 Model DD1 or DD3) hardware order. Refer to Hardware Announcement 109-087, dated February 10, 2009. Capacity upgrade orders Customer representatives should be prepared to furnish the ProtecTIER server serial or system identification unit (SIU) for the server (or servers in a cluster) being upgraded with additional capacity. Upgrade orders using cumulative tiers are made starting within the tier representing the current capacity authorized (for capacity with current Software Maintenance). Once pricing tier 6 has been reached (beyond 250 TB), all subsequent upgrade orders are made from tier 6, so long as Software Maintenance at or above that authorization level is current. Single capacity upgrade orders of less than 250 TB total can be made from tier 6 using the per TB 251+ order. For single orders from tier 6 of greater than 250 TB, use a combination of the per 250 TB and per terabyte tier 6 order s to reach the required total. Order Software Maintenance registration corresponding to all product s and quantities ordered, for both new and capacity upgrade orders. Licensing IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance). Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) agreement applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures. Usage restriction Yes. IBM System Storage V2 software (5639-XXB) is licensed on a per server and per terabyte basis. Optional Clustering support function is licensed on a per terabyte capacity basis. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) applies Yes. All distributed software licenses include Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) for a period of 12 months from the date of acquisition, providing a streamlined way to acquire IBM software and assure technical support coverage for all licenses. Extending coverage for a total of three years from date of acquisition may be elected. While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center.
