Technical Data Sheet OUDRASperse WB 4001 Waterborne Epoxy Dispersion Description OUDRASperse WB 4001 is waterborne dispersion of an epoxy novolac resin (f=3.6), being manufactured without the use of solvent. It is supplied at 58% solids in water and is designed for use in two-component coating systems. The solvent-free nature of the dispersion allows the formulator complete latitude in meeting even the strictest of VOC regulations, with capability of formulating to ultra low VOC. Additionally, the high functionality of the epoxy novolac resin provides films with inherently higher crosslink density, yielding high performance coatings with superior resistance properties. Features and Benefits Solvent-free formulation capability High functionality (f=3.6) Manufactured without the use of APEO surfactants Low odor Shear stable Fast dry Excellent corrosion resistance Easy water clean-up Physical Properties Property Value* Solids Content, % 58 Epoxy Equivalent Wt (g/eq, as is) 330 MFFT ( C) 0 Viscosity, cp 6000 Density, kg/l 1.11 Appearance Milky White * Typical properties, not to be construed as specifications. Starting Point Formulation An Anticorrosive Primer starting point formulation based on OUDRASperse WB 4001 Epoxy Dispersion dispersion is provided below (WBED-4001-01). When applied at 12mil dry film thickness (DFT) to blasted hot-rolled steel (bhrs), this primer shows excellent corrosion resistance after 1500hours of continuous salt spray exposure, as displayed in the images below. Note that films were cured for 7 days at 25 C and 65% Relative Humidity (%RH) prior to salt spray exposure. A Mid-Coat/Build-Coat starting point formulation based on OUDRASperse WB 4001 Epoxy Dispersion is provided below (WBED-4001-02). A completely waterborne three coat system using WBED-4001-01 Anticorrosive Primer (4mil DFT), WBED-4001-02 Build Coat (5mil DFT), and a 2k water-based polyurethane Topcoat (2.5mil DFT) based on Maincote AU-28 was applied to bhrs and cured 7 days at 25 C and 65%RH. After 1500hours of continuous salt spray exposure, the observed corrosion resistance is excellent, as seen in the image below. Comparison of this total Waterborne system is made to a 3 coat analogous solventborne system based on commercial industry standards: SB epoxy Primer (6mil DFT) SB epoxy Build Coat (5mil DFT) 2k SB polyurethane Topcoat (2.5mil DFT). 1500 hours Salt Spray 1500 hours Salt Spray OUDRASperse WB 4001 SB Epoxy Commercial control DFT~12mil DFT~12mil Page 3 of 6
