Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION The Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite is a complete, end-to-end solution for retail delivery that turns a financial institution s Web site into a full-spectrum e- financial destination for customers. From the financial institution s branded and customized Web site, customers can transfer money, check account balances, pay and receive bills online, run reports, view current consolidated cash balances, and even manage their consolidated portfolios. With the Consumer e-finance Suite, a traditional financial institution can offer its customers a fusion of services, protocols, and delivery channels on a single platform, giving them one-stop access to all of their finances anytime, anywhere, on Web or wireless devices. Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite enables a full range of small business Web banking and bill payment capabilities from a single point of access on the financial institution s Web site. This suite addresses the needs of small business with the following features: full-featured Web banking, bill payment, bill presentment, balance reporting, budgeting, cash flow analysis, and cash management services. From a single Web address, a financial institution s customers can get account information, pay bills, get news, manage their cash, and communicate with their financial institution. Feature Guide 1

Chapter 1: Introduction Architectural Overview The Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite architecture is a combination of Java objects abstracted as Tasks, Beans, and the Services interface, which allows for connection into a host of applications. The Financial Fusion Server: UniversalOFX Edition, includes Message Broker, which allows the user to design message collections and the associated APIs for application-to-application communication, and a deployable OFX message set for 1.02, 1.51, and 2.00 OFX protocols, as well as a design pattern for creating back-end handlers. Additionally, the Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite is fully Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) enabled, which allows for multi-client access for all financial institution customers. With EJB technology, developers can write reusable, portable server-side business logic for the J2EE platform. An application s graphical display is provided by JTFextended HTML templates for presentation to multiple delivery channels on both Web and wireless devices. These JTF templates contain Java Beans for holding data, Tasks for performing business logic, and Services for connectivity to external sources. By delegating data to Beans and business logic to Tasks, this architectural design allows for a complete separation of presentation and business logic, and makes it possible for easy additions of new interfaces such as cellular phones. Tasks then delegate the responsibility of connecting to outside systems for data to the next abstract component called Services. These Services provide an interface into application-specific functions and allow for connection into systems such as AFMS, OFX, and others without the need to fully understand the Tasks that use them. In effect this is the API to outside systems. 2 Consumer e-finance Suite

Architectural Overview The UniversalOFX Server acts as the middle tier, connecting the Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite to the back-end systems. This design provides for a single integration point to back-end systems for both the Consumer e-finance Suite of applications and Universal OFX. This architecture can be seen in the following three graphics. Figure 1: Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite Architectural Overview Feature Guide 3

Banking Features Content Syndication Server The Consumer e-finance Suite enables financial institutions to turn their Web site into a financial destination site for their clients. In addition to the robust banking and Bill Payment and Presentment services, financial institutions can offer business news, financial calculators, and other content relevant to their consumer clients and to small businesses. Content includes Stock quotes ATM/branch locator Weather conditions Calculators Financial Fusion Content Syndication consists of two primary components: the Content Aggregation Server and the Content Directors. Content Aggregation Server The Content Aggregation Server receives requests for content from a financial institution s Web site and retrieves the requested data from the appropriate source. Once the data is retrieved, it is normalized and sent back to the financial institution s Web server in XML format. The Content Aggregation Server retrieves the requested content at the same time that the financial institution is retrieving account information, optimizing turnaround time for content delivery. Financial Fusion hosts and manages the Content Aggregation Server. Content Directors The Content Directors are Java servlet objects that reside on a financial institution s Web server to control the display of the institution s content. Content Directors capture the Feature Guide 13

Chapter 2: Consumer e-finance Suite Functionality customer s content preferences and retrieve the appropriate data from the Content Aggregation Server. The content is then formatted according to specifications set by the institution. Performance is optimized because Content Directors interface with one source for all content. Content Directors can also be configured to retrieve data for other third-party sources to give financial institutions the option to establish their own relationships with local content providers. Customer Care Financial Fusion s Customer Care product enables financial institutions to manage all aspects of their customer service on the Web. Approximately seventy percent of customers who enroll in online banking abandon the process, but with Customer Care, a financial institution can improve service to customers and thus customer satisfaction and retention. Customer Care simplifies the process of submitting applications, and Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) can easily maintain customer profiles and communicate with customers through e-mail on a secure site. Customer Care also simplifies the process of managing CSRs by establishing quality standards and tracking the results of individual CSRs, teams, and call centers. The Customer Care Home page provides customer service representatives and administrators access to the following four main areas in Customer Care: Customer Profile Manager Message Center Enrollment and Application Center Employee Profile Manager 14 Consumer e-finance Suite

Banking Features One-to-One Marketing Financial Fusion s One-to-One Marketing product enables financial institutions to deliver targeted ads and messages to their online customers. Through a combination of customer profiling, campaign targeting, and reporting, financial institutions can increase the effectiveness of their marketing campaigns, resulting in higher sales and satisfied customers. The four components of One-to-One Marketing are Message Manager Profiling Engine Targeting and Personalization Reporting Bill Payment and Transfer Warehouse Financial Fusion s Bill Payment and Transfer Warehouse product is a robust middleware application suite that stores all information pertaining to payments and transfers and enables financial institutions to control more of the payment process. It supports the following key features: Least-cost routing Multiple payment processor options Ownership of all payment data Future and recurring payments and transfers Previously, financial institutions have relied completely on payment processors like CheckFree and Metavante for the majority of the payment process. The Bill Payment and Transfer Warehouse is designed to revolutionize the traditional payment process. By controlling the payment process, financial institutions are able to do the following: Filter out on us payments for internal processing Support multiple payment processing options Feature Guide 15

Chapter 2: Consumer e-finance Suite Functionality Own all payment and transfer data Support future and recurring payments and transfers Account Aggregation Financial Fusion s Account Aggregation product is a portfolio management solution that aggregates financial information for the end user. It securely gathers and stores account information, enabling end users to manage their consolidated portfolios from the financial institution s Web site. It aggregates account information either in nightly batches or upon user request. Account Aggregation acts as middleware, providing end users with a consolidated view of all their accounts (from multiple financial institutions) in a single financial institution s Web site. It can run on the financial institution s premises or in a hosted environment. The types of accounts that can be aggregated include banking, brokerage, credit card, and travel rewards accounts. In future releases, Account Aggregation will also include aggregation from other types of sites such as 401k and e-mail accounts. Application Alerts Application Alerts provides users of the Consumer e- Finance Suite an application interface for setting alert preferences. This interface gives users the ability to define the events that the Universal Alerts Engine will then generate and deliver. The user s alert criteria are stored in the UAE, which can be retrieved through the Alert/Rule Registration API portion of the UAE. The data returned from the queries makes up the notification information that the user selected. This alert message is then sent to the device the user specified through 16 Consumer e-finance Suite

Financial Fusion Server Features Application Alerts (such as an e-mail address or a wireless device). The types of alerts include Account balance threshold met (minimum or maximum) NSF condition exists End-of-day stock portfolio quotes Arrival of a secure message Application Alerts consists of two primary components: the Client Application and Application Plug-ins to the Universal Alert Engine. Client Application The Client Application consists of beans, tasks, services, and a UI giving end users the ability to schedule alerts with the alert system. Application Plug-ins Application Plug-ins reside within the UAE. When the UAE is in the process of delivering an alert that was scheduled from the Application Alerts Client Application, it sends the alert to one of the Application Plug-ins. The plug-in does the necessary comparisons to see if the alert meets any of the predetermined thresholds (such as a user s account balance dropping below a certain limit). If the thresholds have been met then the UAE schedules an alert notification. Financial Fusion Server Features Financial Fusion Server features include the Universal Alerts Engine and Management Console. Feature Guide 17

Chapter 2: Consumer e-finance Suite Functionality Universal Alerts Engine The Financial Fusion Universal Alert Engine (UAE) is a middleware component for generating immediate, scheduled, or recurring notification messages to applications and end-user devices. The UAE provides the base functionality upon which an application presents an alert-enabled interface to its users. For example, using the UAE, the Application Alerts service of the Consumer e- Finance Suite allows users to receive notification when certain predefined conditions are met, such as when their checking account reaches a preset minimum amount. In this way applications or other software components use the UAE to register alerts on behalf of their users. The UAE uses registration information including start and end of alert period, frequency (if any), primary and alternate delivery channels, and the message to deliver to schedule notification to the appropriate device or application, such as a user s e-mail, cellular phone, or pager. Management Console Management Console simplifies the configuration of Consumer e-finance Suite applications with defined architecture, design patterns, and APIs for managing applications and systems. It also provides reporting capabilities. Management Console consists of two primary components: the Management Console Plug-in and the Reporting Console. Management Console Plug-in The Management Console Plug-in is a plug-in that allows users to modify Agents, Configuration Beans, and the attributes of Managed Beans. 18 Consumer e-finance Suite

Financial Fusion Server Features Reporting Console The Reporting Console uses a Web client with the reports being generated using servlets and JTF. Financial Fusion applications are able to log or report any data the user wishes to capture. Standard reports that are shipped out of the box include the following: Total Active Customer Report Total Enrolled Customer Report Average Transaction Time Report Total Transaction Report Errors Reports, such as Transaction Types/Levels and Response Time Reporting Feature Guide 19

Chapter 3 TECHNOLOGY Technology Overview Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite is built using a multi-tiered, object-oriented design framework with Java servlet technology. This is the next generation of internet application design and provides maximum control and flexibility in a reliable and scalable architecture. Financial Fusion is an acknowledged leader in Java servlet technology and has been awarded the 100 percent Pure Java Certification from Sun Microsystems. Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite incorporates the following technologies: Java Servlets Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) JavaBeans Security Feature Guide 21

Chapter 3: Technology Technology Components Java Servlets Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite has been written entirely in Java, and the functionality of the suite has been encapsulated in Java objects. These objects are extensible to allow for maximum flexibility and customization. Through the use of servlets, Consumer e-finance Suite extends the functionality of the Web servers. Servlets are a component-based, platform-independent method for building Web-based applications that provide scalability and flexibility. Servlets are ideal for interactive Web applications and have access to the entire family of Java APIs. Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite utilizes Java Servlet technology to handle all of the requests and responses to the client. This allows for maximum efficiency in handling Web sites. Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) The Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite is fully Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) enabled, which allows for multi-client access for all financial institution customers. With EJB technology, developers can write reusable portable server-side business logic for the J2EE platform. EJB technology includes the following features: EJB components are server-side components written entirely in the Java programming language. 22 Consumer e-finance Suite

Technology Components EJB components contain business logic only no systemlevel programming. System-level services such as transactions, security, lifecycle, threading, persistence, and so on are automatically managed for the EJB component by the EJB server. EJB architecture is inherently transactional, distributed, portable, multi-tier, scalable, and secure. Components are declaratively customized. (Components that can be customized include transactional behavior, security features, life-cycle, state management, persistence, and so on.) EJB components are fully portable across any EJB server and any operating system. JavaBeans Financial Fusion provides financial institutions with an object library of JavaBean banking tools that can be assembled into completed products or distributed as individual objects throughout the financial institution s Web site. The JavaBean Library provides optimal flexibility and seamless integration of online banking functionality into a financial institution s Web site. Security Financial Fusion provides the highest level of security available for online transactions. Security safeguards include the following: 128-bit encryption SSL 3.0 Digital certificates (x.509v3) Access control lists Feature Guide 23

Chapter 4 BANK SIMULATOR The Bank Simulator is a database that is used to simulate what would happen in a real deployed bank implementation. For example, if you transfer money from your savings to your checking account or you make a payment you would expect that when you log on the next day the account balances would reflect that transfer or payment and a transaction would be recorded in your history. The Bank Simulator database enables these types of real-life transactions to occur. Using Bank Simulator, you will be able to execute end-to-end testing of the Financial Fusion Consumer e-finance Suite features and functionality. Feature Guide 25
