Steel Balls for Ball Bearings Steel balls within ball bearings, are used for the rotating parts of all industrial machines and transportation vehicles, such as the automobile, home-electrical appliances and computers. The AKS steel ball is the best in the World for precision and durability. The material of a steel ball within a bearing is a high carbon chrome steel (SUJ2 *1.) Standards and specifications are regulated in accordance with JIS B 1501. The nominal manufacturing sizes of steel balls are shown in the table below (*2.) *1. Material regulated by JIS G 4805. *2. The ball name is the same as the ball size. Column No.1 of the table below shows dimensions in mm. Column No.2 is in imperial dimensions (1 inch = 25.4mm) Remarks. Stainless Steel Balls for Ball Bearings SUS 440C (equivalent to AISI Type 440C) is used for its superior qualities of corrosion resistance, durability and workability. Its application is in bearings required for high precision. Also within high pressure ball valves and relief valves. Material Standards: JIS G 4303 (stainless steel bar) JIS G 4309 (stainless steel coil) Steel Ball Standards: Japan Bearing Industrial Association BAS 1007 (stainless steel ball for ball bearing) As other corrosion resistant hardened steel, AKS deals in the ACD34 Stainless Steel which decrease the carbon content. A special character of this ball is superior to Ball Waviness than usual corrosion resistant balls. Production sizes are in proportion to that of chrome steel balls Corrosion Resistant Hardened Steel Balls These are corrosion resistant hardened steel balls. Martensite stainless steel is used, SUS 440C, SUS 420J1, SUS 431. Applications for stainless steel balls with corrosion resistance and hardened by heat treatment are mainly in high pressure valves and relief valves. In general we manufacture the following ball sizes: 1/8-1 1/2 (3.175mm - 38.100mm) Corrosion Resistant Unhardened Steel Balls Austenite stainless steel is used for its superior corrosion resistance. Applications are mainly ball valves. Material specification: SUS 304 corrosion resistance due to low carbon content. SUS 316 superior for acid corrosion resistance. In general we manufacture the following ball sizes: 1/8-2 (3.175mm - 50.800mm)

Heat Resistant Steel Balls This steel ball is used in bearings with operate in temperatures around 300 degree with vacuum melted steels. Ball dimensional Accuracy is the same as that of chrome steel balls. Applications are heat proof bearings such as the Jet Engine Bearing. High Speed Tool Steel and Heat Proof Steel is used. Material specification: JIS G 4403 High Speed Tool Steels AISI M50 Heat Resistant Steels Manufactured sizes are the same as chrome steel balls Carbon Steel Ball The required ball strength is obtained through a carbonized quench. Applications are bicycles, casters, etc. The material mainly used in these applications is JIS G 3539. In general AKS manufactures ball sizes 1/8 to 1/2 inch, but additional sizes can be made to customer request. Ceramic Balls New ceramic balls have stable physical and chemical characteristics. They have high hardness, high strength at high temperatures, superior wear resistance and superior corrosion resistance with almost all chemicals. Applications are heat-proof wear resistant bearings and chemically resistant bearings and chemically resistant valves. Normal manufactured ball range is from diameter 0.5mm to 3 inches (76.2mm), with variations according to customer request. In addition AKS manufactures special formed balls, like grooved balls, perforated balls and balls for ball point pens. Types of Fine Ceramics Non-oxide Fine Ceramics Applications are heat proof, wear resistant bearing balls and other various uses. *Silicon Nitride (Si 3 N 4 ) Qualities are: small thermal expansion coefficient, large themal shock resistance and superior creep resistance. *Silicon Carbide (SiC) Heat resistant ceramics with stability up to 1,600 degree Oxide Fine Ceramics. *Alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) *Zirconia (ZrO 2 ) Qualities of superior strength at room temperature, corrosion resistance and electrical insulation. Much used for valve balls where chemical resistance and wear resistance is required. Qualities of high temperature melting point, good chemical stability and low thermal conductivity. This ball has a good mechanical function with super strength and super toughness.

Nylon Balls Nylon has characteristics of light weight, easily colourable; resistive to electricity, thermal conductivity, acid and alkaline. General application is for valves and flow meters. Material is polyamide resin (Nylon 66) The following table lists our standard manufacturing range, but additional sizes can be supplied to customer request.
