COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS is a mixture of inorganic borates, organocopper and organosulfur compounds and cypermethrin, blended into thixotropic and thickening agents. Chemical nature and use: A ready-for-use, thixotropic wood preserving paste, packed in a wrap applicator, for remedial treatment of the external groundline portion of wooden poles in service. VIKA GEL is formulated to penetrate timber and provides supplemental protection to the critical external groundline area of standing poles against fungal decay, thereby extending the service life of wooden poles. also contains an additional contact and stomach insecticide to prevent external attack by subterranean termites. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION REMPRO is registered with the South African Department of Agriculture in terms of Act 36 of 1947 as a toxicity group II product (Yellow band), i.e. Moderately hazardous.(reg. No. L5823) Most important hazards: Human health effects Causes eye irritation Mildly irritating to skin May cause irritation to respiratory tract during prolonged exposure May cause irritation of the gastrointestinal tract following accidental ingestion Toxic if swallowed in large amounts Environmental effects Toxic to both plant and aquatic life Physical hazards Thermal decomposition results in release of toxic fumes. 4. FIRST-AID MEASURES Ingestion: Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, keep airway clear. Seek medial attention immediately. Skin contact: Wash with soap and water. Remove and wash contaminated clothing and footwear. Seek medical attention of persistent irritation occurs. Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air and report for medical evaluation if respiratory distress is detected. 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Extinguishing media: In event of a fire, cool containers with water. Use dry chemical powder, sand, foam or CO 2 to extinguish the fire. Flammability: Flammable at high temperatures. Specific hazards: May release irritating and toxic gases when exposed to high temperatures. Product may decompose if heated above 60 C. Protective clothing: Self contained breathing apparatus. PVC gloves. Cotton or polyester overalls. Safety glasses or goggles. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal precautions: Wear PVC gloves and cotton or polyester overalls during use. Environmental precautions: Avoid contamination of rivers, dams and canals. Prevent any spillages or waste from entering drains and ditches. Methods for cleaning up: Recover uncontaminated product for re-use. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling: Wear personal protective equipment such as suitable gloves and overalls during use. Avoid accidental ingestion and contact with eyes and skin. Do not eat, drink or smoke during application. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after use or accidental contact with skin. Avoid contamination of the environment and do not discharge into rivers, dams and canals. Storage: Keep out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. Store away from food and foodstuffs. Store in a cool place. Protect from excessive heat. Do not store near oxidising agents and alkalis. Keep containers closed. 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION Engineering measures: No special engineering controls are required. Personal protective equipment: Protective rubber gloves and overalls are required during handling and use. Hygiene measures: Wash hands with soap and water before eating, drinking or smoking. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION The following information is based on the most toxic active ingredient. The actual formulation should therefore have lower overall toxicity levels. Acute toxicity : Oral LD 50 (rat) - Over 2887 mg/kg Dermal LD 50 (rabbit) - Over 2890 mg/kg Inhalation LC 50 (rat) - ± 1,5mg/l/hour. Irritating to mucous membrane and respiratory tract. Bioaccumulation : Due to biodegradation and recommended application rates, it is unlikely that bioaccumulation will attain levels of environmental significance.
