Hard Chrome Problem: Electroplated hard chrome (as used in industry): excellent hardness and corrosion resistance BUT: environmental and health issues (CrVI)! Alternative processes needed. Sensors for health monitoring of heavily strained plastic composites Challenge: The technology required to accurately and continuously monitor all critical material aspects of composites is lacking today. Health monitoring of critical structures such as in aeroplanes is a major challenge.
