Here Comes the Sun Global electric capacity orders over the next decade will be roughly equivalent orders over the last decade but the orders mix shifts dramatically. Solar PV captures the greatest share of orders Natural gas, wind, and hydropower continue to play a key role. Coal s role will be focused on providing baseload power in emerging economies. Energy storage will emerge as a key technology in the decade ahead. All technologies will continue to have a role to play in the decade ahead. May 17, 2018 5

Power System Transformation Distributed power technologies creating the need for two-way power flows. New technologies such as batteries are providing opportunities throughout the T&D network. Transformative applications such as electric transportation platforms are creating new synergies. Baseload power options coal, gas and nuclear power continue to expand. The Global Energy System Comes Full Circle 1893: Rudolf Diesel develops the Diesel engine. 1900-1950: GE. By 1922, 175 MW power plants were being constructed. 1994-2012: Jenbacher begins focusing on ultra-high efficiency engines. 2010-2020: Acceleration of Internet of Things (IoT) and the digitization of energy. The Transformation Creates a World of Opportunities The global power system is transforming it s happening everywhere but at a different pace. This creates new opportunities for supplies with offerings that are focused on digitization, decarbonization, decentralization, and electrification. Standards, platforms, approaches not fully baked yet opportunities exist to influence the direction. All of the above environment exists, legacy technologies are not going away, they are just being improved upon. Digitization is a must huge value in integrating and controlling technologies, everything is smart now. Localize to take advantage of developing world opportunities Creativity and flexibility will be the keys to success in this new era. Equipment suppliers must have the right technologies, platforms, and people to successfully lead this transition. 12
