FLYWHEEL STRUCTURAL SCHEMATIC NARRATIVE: 09-07-2018 1. Infill of existing openings: There are a few locations where existing openings are required to be infilled. Pending verification of sizes and lengths, the openings will be infilled with existing wood framing members removed from new opening locations elsewhere in the building. If the existing member sizes and/or lengths are insufficient, existing openings will be infilled with LVL or glulam beams and/or joists. 2. New openings for stairs: A new stair is being located between the existing 3 rd and 4 th floors. The stair opening will be framed with new wood framing (glulam or LVL as required for heavy-timber requirements). The stair is anticipated to be steel fabricated with a perforated steel plate guardrail. 3. Glass guardrails around existing or new floor openings: Glass railings are anticipated for fall protection around new and existing floor openings. Where available, the guardrail will be supported by the existing wood framing. New wood framing (glulam or LVL to meet heavy timber requirements) will be provided when existing wood framing does not occur or is insufficient. 4. Floor overbuild: In the east building, a new floor overbuild is anticipated to create a uniform floor level across the three existing structures. Overbuild will be constructed from lightgage bearing studs and joists topped with plywood sheathing. 5. New lintels in east firewall: A couple of new openings are required in the existing brick firewall separating the east and middle building. If steel angle are utilized for lintels, they will need to be painted to achieve a three-hour fire rating; if concrete lintels are used, no additional fire treatment is anticipated.
