DAY 1: WEDNESDAY 17 APRIL 2019 11:00 AM 17:00 PM SESSION ON POLICIES, STRATEGIES & CAPACITY BUILDING SESSION OVERVIEW With the advanced renewables and energy efficient technologies in the market in addition to an improved cost competitiveness, the demand for clean energy generation is increasing globally and thus the economic case for Renewable Energy (RE) generation and energy consumption reduction through Energy Efficiency (EE) interventions haven been firmly established. However, a successful scale-ups largely depends on the suitable policies, strategies and regulatory framework. Policy instruments, strategies and regulations are essential elements for the government to drive down renewable energy purchase costs, encourage efficient products and technology and address other market conditions to ensure bankability. As such the results of a better alignment of renewables and energy efficiency policies, strategies and regulatory framework which can sometimes work at cross-purpose, will also contribute to improving energy security, energy access and bring other economic benefits. Capacity building, or capacity development have also become a central approach to development within the energy field and further actions were taken by the government to raise capabilities. This session explores policies, strategies, regulatory framework and capacity gaps from the National, Regional and International perspective from stakeholders and an insight on actions taken and projects undergoing at the government level.

DAY 2: THURSDAY 18 APRIL 2019 8:00 AM 14:00 PM SESSION ON TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AND NEW DEVELOPMENTS SESSION OVERVIEW According to the Renewable Energy Global Status Report 2018 by REN21, the renewables accounted for an estimated 70% of net additions to global power capacity in 2017 of which solar PV led the way, accounting for nearly 55%, while the growth of distributed generation capacity accelerates. This growth has been possible mainly through advancement in the technology innovation and new product development apart from strong policy push. At the same time, Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) together will need to deliver more than three quarters of the emission reductions needed in the next decades to reach global climate targets. To achieve this goal, these technologies will need to be deployed much faster than they are now, requiring a more integrated approach between RE and EE. Technological innovations and developments in renewable energy and energy efficiency are constantly evolving in the field of sustainable energy. These product innovations and developments introduce new concepts into the field, address issues and gaps found in current RE/EE technologies, and encourages the uptake of RE/EE through developments of lower cost technologies that are more affordable for the general public. In this regard, this section will delve into different RE and EE technologies such as concept of waste-to-energy, the green transport and infrastructure (with focus on electric vehicles), solar cooling applications among other technological innovations and developments.

DAY 2: THURSDAY 18 APRIL 2019 14:00 PM 17:00 PM SESSION ON FINANCING AND SUSTAINABILITY SESSION OVERVIEW Traditionally, investors evaluated their performance based on financial measures alone. However, investing with an eye to environmental or social issues, not just financial returns, has become mainstream in the past decade and from within this concept the Sustainable finance term has evolved. The correlation between finance and Sustainability has grown closer through the past decade and performance indicators have shown that Sustainable Finance can provide a better growth. In this regard, most of the multilateral development banks are committed to invest in sustainable or climate finance. For example, ADB has committed to double its annual climate financing to $6 billion by 2020, out of which, $4 billion will be dedicated to mitigation through scaling up support for renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport, and building smart cities. Sustainable Finance seeks to reconcile economic performance with positive social and environmental impact, by funding companies that actively contribute to sustainable development. Sustainable financing in the field of RE & EE will pave the way for more private financial sector investment in sustainable energy projects, and these projects will contribute to reducing greenhouse emissions, fulfil our international commitments toward Climate change and also improve air quality, energy security and boost economic development in the kingdom. This session will focus on issues to the below mentioned topics form a financial dimension and will reflect on constrains and challenges engulfing this aspect.
