Consult Australia is the association representing the business interests of consulting firms operating in the built and natural environment. We specialise in helping businesses of all sizes to create a commercial platform from which they can operate successfully and sustainably while making the business side of running their firm easier and less time consuming. Consult Australia acts as the voice of the industry, facilitating collaboration and networking, and by providing tailored education and support services, Consult Australia frees its members to do what they do best and what they enjoy most about providing professional consulting services: consult! Our member firms services include, but are not limited to: architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, planning, cost consulting (quantity surveyors), project management and environmental science. WE ARE ACTIVE IN YOUR STATE OR TERRITORY In addition to our National Office, Consult Australia has strong representation through our offices in the states and territories that support committees of members representing industry interests locally. These state and territory divisions drive advocacy activities responsive to their unique local challenges; facilitate new networks and business development opportunities for our member firms; deliver targeted training, local communications and member engagement. Policy and Advocacy There is no other industry association in Australia dedicated to advocating for the business interests of firms consulting in the built and natural environment. Consult Australia s policy and advocacy is supported by longstanding, productive relationships through federal, state and territory parliaments and the bureaucracy, as well as our members substantial expertise and unique perspective on a range of issues. Consult Australia is sought-after by policy makers who recognise the vital role of professional consulting firms their contribution to the nation s productivity, future prosperity, and standard of living. Our leadership facilitates government policy development that delivers better outcomes and an improved operating environment for our member firms. Better urban environments and infrastructure investment Sharing our firms expertise to deliver more evidence-based public policy outcomes; supporting investment in infrastructure providing more productive, liveable and sustainable urban environments. Safer, sustainable and more productive workplaces Supporting compliance with national Workplace Health and Safety legislation and providing guidance for firms. Facilitating a more diverse workforce, with ensuing productivity benefits, across the industry. Helping firms retain key workers, and improving access to skilled workers against identified shortages. Benchmarking and leading the development of industry best-practice for more sustainable and productive businesses.

Engaging with us The purpose of Consult Australia is to drive business success for our member firms. We are focused on helping to make the business of doing business easier and less time consuming for our members. Membership of Consult Australia is corporate and as such the advantages of membership are open to all staff in the organisation. However, while all staff are welcome to access the advantages of membership, our main goal is to provide opportunities for representatives of your firm (from all levels, locations and disciplines) to engage with us in the areas most critical to your business and where we can best assist you in achieving commercial success. Through engagement with Consult Australia in each state and territory where your organisation does business you will have access to unique intelligence to support your business along with the most up-to-date information on relevant legislation and government activity. Local engagement with Consult Australia also provides you with the opportunity to contribute to and influence the future direction of your industry through involvement at a strategic level, by participating in local committees, providing feedback and commentary on current issues, and building strong relationships with your peers.

Opportunities for participation National participation Member Non Member Policy roundtables: Our government relations and advocacy across policy portfolios draws on the expertise of industry leaders nominated from our member firms to participate in industry-led roundtables facilitating unique and engaged networks of expertise on Liability & Contracts, Infrastructure & Urban Development, Skills, Workforce Diversity, and Smaller & Regional Firms. Active engagement is encouraged, and members have the opportunity to share knowledge and to influence and develop policy to benefit their firm and the wider industry. Local participation State and territory division committees: Member firms are encouraged to nominate a senior member of staff (State Manager or equivalent) to sit on division committees where that firm has an office. The division committees are responsible for establishing the Consult Australia s strategy in that state including guiding local advocacy, sharing insights and intelligence, identifying and building key relationships, and helping to prioritise our policy agenda in that region. Policy launches and briefings: To promote and support the release of our thought leadership papers (previous topics of which have included procurement, sustainability, cities planning, transport reform and workforce diversity), Consult Australia hosts national and state policy launch events, giving members the opportunity to learn more about their operating environment and network with the industry s key decision makers and influencers. Member Services Benchmark your business Practice Performance Survey (PPS): The PPS is a secure, user-friendly, electronic survey tool which provides member firms with the opportunity to benchmark their performance within the industry across a range of key performance indicators. The survey is conducted in September each year with the resulting benchmarking reports provided to participants only. Salary Survey: Delivered in partnership with Aon Hewitt, this is the only industry specific salary survey completed by the consulting firms themselves (rather than individuals), making it a unique and extremely valuable product. It is also the most comprehensive of its kind, typically covering almost 16,000 lines of data and more than 358 positions. Subscription Service

Drive operational excellence Member Non Member ConsultHR: This industry specific online subscription service has been designed to help companies comply with current Australian employment laws and demonstrate best practice in human resources, industrial relations and work health and safety management. Industrial relations advice line: Access to industrial relations advice is provided through the Association s support line during standard business hours. Safety in Design Tool Kit: Currently the only resource of its kind available to designers servicing the built environment the Toolkit provides a step-by-step guide to the process of Safety in Design via a simple flowchart. It also includes a template hazard risk register, letter to client and final safety report. Contracts and related documents: Access to various documents including Consult Australia s Guide to Contract Terms: Managing Unfavourable Terms, Risk Management Guidelines for Consulting Engineers and recommended professional services contracts (long and short form versions). Practice notes: There are currently more than 30 practice notes available for download covering a wide range of subjects including professional ethics, appointments and contracts and marketing and communications. Public Indemnity (PI) Pathway: PI Pathway gives members access to a panel of three leading insurance brokers, BRIC, Willis and Planned, who offer members comprehensive access to insurers that can provide broad policy coverage along with expert advice on price, coverage and the range of services they have available. Develop your people Online education courses: All courses offered through ConsultED have been tailored to our industry and cover a range of topics from business practice to compliance. The majority of courses are worth one CPD hour for those under self assessment schemes. Continuing professional development courses (open or in-house): Faceto-face training is provided on three core subject: Contracts for Consultants; Role of the Superintendant and Safety in Design. Information on courses, dates and locations can be found on the website and all courses are available to be run inhouse on request. Events for professional and business development: Each division holds a series of events throughout the year on commercially based topics that are identified as being of strong interest and relevant to members. These events provide the opportunity to hear from industry leaders, client representatives and other experts relevant to your business success. In addition to being educational, these events also provide excellent networking and opportunities to increase the profile of your firm.

Develop your people (con t) Member Non Member FutureNet: FutureNet aims to assist young professionals (aged 35 and under) associated with the built and natural environment to develop business skills and professional contacts to equip them to become future leaders filling a niche by enabling the development of the non-technical skills that are essential to succeeding in today s competitive marketplace. Future Business Leaders Course: The Course is offered exclusively to young professionals aged 35 and under working in the built environment and brings together a broad range of disciplines. Over eight months, the Course helps participants develop core business, management and teamwork skills through a variety of interactive training sessions. These skills are then practically applied in a team infrastructure project. Access industry intelligence Economic Forecast Report: This comprehensive annual report provides a detailed profile of the industry and an analysis of the market for consulting firms operating in the built and natural environment. It includes commentary by both location and market sector. +50% off Consulting Matters: This quarterly e-magazine is published by Consult Australia and brings together commentary from leading industry professionals and external subject-matter-experts to provide high quality editorial on the pertinent business issues facing consultants today. Subscribers Fortnightly National E-newsletters: CE Update is Consult Australia s fortnightly e-newsletter which contains topical local and national news items, policy and advocacy updates and information about upcoming events. State updates: Each State and Territory regularly communicates with its constituents, producing regular e-newsletters which are tailored to reflect local information, news and events. Promote your business Awards for Excellence: Consult Australia s Awards for Excellence is one of the built environment industry s most high profile and celebrated Awards programs. It offers firms of all sizes the opportunity to be recognised for business excellence across areas such as collaboration, innovation in design, technological innovation and diversity. Special awards are also presented to organisations nominated by the judges as the small, medium and large firm of the year. Awards for Excellence event: Each year the winners of the Awards are announced at a Gala Black Tie Dinner and Awards Ceremony where representatives from across the industry come together to celebrate the success and achievements of their peers. discount

Grow your CEO Asia Pacific CEO Conference: This annual event provides a unique networking platform for the top echelons of consulting and engineering firms in the Asia Pacific region. Designed as an exclusive forum for CEOs and senior business leaders within the industry, this event provides an opportunity for insightful debate and discussion between peers from over 25 nations in the region. Large Firm CEO group: This is an invitation only group which consists of the CEOs (or equivalent Heads of for Australia) of all our large (>300 staff) member firms. The group meet twice annually over dinner. FIDIC: Access to the FIDIC (International Federation of Consuting Engineers) network of more than 100 sister organisations throughout the world as well as international benchmarking, information, training, and contract templates/resources.
